The selling of custom pics is now going on on the forums. I do not understand this. If it works how I think it works, basically someone donates irl money to JLH to get a custom pic, then sells the custom pics in the items for sale forum for NM gold. Which, in a way, is trading RL money for in game items/gold, which has been argued and posted against many times.

On the other hand, it is JLH getting the RL money in the long run.

Not sure how the whole thing works out though.

an interesting point, however i am not keen on it, because it would mean that people who have lots of real money could potentially become powerful in nightmist because of that and from no real nightmist work of their own.

but they arent receiving irl money directly, the money goes towards Nightmist and theres no way of selling back the pic to NM, so NM benefits as a whole

Well JLH is paying for it. If he says he doesn't want the extra money he may get from allowing it, then I think it is a good thing. I don't like people buying their way to the top; it's just not healthy competition.

when i first donated jlh actually suggested to me that i could sell the picture. later on when angelus tried, it was stopped by staff for the same reason eamon posted.

i think that if you donate to nm just to sell the pic your reasons are all wrong and you need to get a live. you donate to improve the game for everybody not just you. and you pay like 30 pounds for maybe 1 million gold? that's alot. should save a bit and buy yourself some sex toys or something. should be more fun then nm

I agree... if you donate money just to get a custom picture, something's wrong! You should donate because you love the game and want to see it improved - oh, that reminds me... *hunts for chequebook*.

If I had the money, Nightmist would be way better cause I would donate so much. If I ever get rich, Nightmist will definatly benifit.

You're not going to get a long ways selling custom pics.

Highest I've seen offered on one = 1.23m 50 dollars for 1.23m...don't think anyone's going to be abusing that....

And if you think about it, there's the simple matter of supply and demand limiting this....how many players in Nightmist are willing to give up a lot of NM stuff for just a pic? How many would trade NM stuff for a pic if they've already got one?

I'd say very few people, with enough gold/crits/items in Nightmist to sway any power, would ever want more than 1 pic to be honest. I don't even really want one that much, wanted gold teddy bear pic on Gaddy...but I'm kind of attatched to the old man with the white ball pic.


In the end, JLH could also simply tell someone "No, thank you for donating, but you've gotten pics and simply sold them for nightmist things too many times."
If someone were dumb enough to try to abuse the pics, then either stop giving the player pics, or stop allowing the player to transfer the pics.

this is probably being posted becuase of me, lol. rescently i 'sold' a pic for 1 mil in gold on the bases i have 4 pics at my disposal at the moment and only sit on mr_pirate, i donated 300$ to JLH not to get custom pics, or a mesely 1 mil in gold, but because over the years ive come to enjoy the game and i understand that what he has saved me by entertaining me for free, i could easily give back to him. i then sold a crit with a pic on it today for 1.23 mil, not because i wanted all kinds of gold, but because i didnt want the crit anymore, that simple, im obviously not going to sell a crit with a custom pic for 100k, and since i have so few crits i ever log on, im not going to go through all the hassle of constantly logging on a crit i dont care for, to keep it from getting deleted with a custom picture on it. 60 dollars is a good deal fo money *12 hours of work for me* and i can gaurentee 1 mil in gold isnt worth real money too me. if im told i cant sell my pictures at certain times, then ill just end up giving them away, and why does it make sense that these people 'although my friends' should be getting these pictures without anymore then talking to me for a month?

Because it can't be stopped, i talked to JLH before about it. If they wont allow transferring pics you can simply tell JLH with the donation to put it on a crit that isn't yours and he will give you gold....

I do think you should be able to sell your pics..... If thats how you play the game then you have no honor in getting good at nm. But its there decision.

In the past, JLH has threatened to ban ppl that pay rl money for in game items/gold. There were quite a few topics in the past about ppl sellin stuff on forums, and ppl offering rl money for it. JLH shot it down in the past, and I just wanted staff to notice this was happening, before too many people had done this.

also the thing about custom pic trades is they arent supported by staff so if you wanted when jlh gives you the pic you can make off with the dewds money

I wasnt posting this about anyone in particular. I was started this topic because custom pics are now in the ITEMS for sale forum. Not in the crits for sale forum, with "oh, btw, crit has a custom pic", but with the topic being "Custom Pic for sale, it raises questions of what is being sold, the crit, or the pic.

If someone were to buy 2 cutsom pics, and sell them off for 1.some odd mil, which is what bids look like on the forums in items for sale, they make more than 2 mil gold for 70 bucks. If they were to do this multiple times, say, buy 4 custom pics a month and sell them all off, eventually, the amount of gold this all adds up to adds up.

Now, say someone starts doing this, buys arch crits, and equips to wear on the crits he buys, and owns you in the Prof Tournament. Think people will start complaining then?

I gave away just this week already more then the selling of that pic will bring up. And prof tourney requires skill, not just the best crits..

Pretty sure staff know it's going on...seeing as the admins are the ones who can change the pics.

All that'd have to be done is them saying you can't do it and people would stop, there's no way of really sneeking a custom pic onto a char.

I think the bottom line in this one is that you buy a pic for real life money, then advance forward in the game because of it (gaining gold from selling it).

It's always been intended that players must do it themselves.

No quick fixes (surprising for an online game eh?)
No easy way to level a character to 30

I find it most unfair that players can buy their way to power using currency that is not related to the game in anyway to gain items for it.

It's the reason why you can't trade stuff for outside items on another game, and its the same reason why you cant buy stuff with real money. You wan't something bad enough, you earn it like everyone else. Or you get lucky like me.


And by the way, I think for donating players should be more than contempt with their custom pic. Players would have killed for the opportunity to gain something like that a while ago, and now its been taken advantage of (like everything else) and eventually it will get spoiled.
