On that note id like to talk about Pking on present day 1a and the amount of exp that is lost, that makes killing people not only detrimental to the overall health of nightmist and its playerbase, but also makes it less fun, some people nah i dont mind chewing off their exp, but others i wanna kill just for funsies, in the present situation i cant, what i would really like to see with this post are the thoughts and feeling of nightmists playerbase in regards to exp loss through pks, and also thoughts on a cap of the exp lost? and or rid exp loss completely?
post it here and keep it civil im not gonna post my position on this topic til much later to try and avoid flaming
Thanks
p.s i went back a couple pages on the forum looking for such a post that already existed, i didnt find one so i started this.

I feel that there should always be SOME exp lost any time you die.. however I think the 1a cap is a bit much. If a character loses like 1.5m-3m exp or so a death I doubt thats something they would whine about unless they die constantly and then it is noone's fault but thier own for either making people want to hunt them or not change up areas.
I support exp loss upon death.. but at a moderate and understandable rate so the game is still enjoyable without an ever-ending loop of playing catch up.

I dont think exp loss should be done away with. Back in the day, damn I feel old saying it like that lol, people worked hard to keep their crits above the % to where they did half damage. It gives ppl an incentive to keep their crits above exp.
Making it like .5% exp loss instead of 1% after lvl 30 doesnt seem that unreasonable.

As far as pking XP loss goes, it's just as bad, especially when it's for no reason. I know I feel like rage quitting whenever I get PK'd and lose basically a whole day of training when I only get a couple hours to play tops these days with work and real life.
My two cents.

Isn't the multi server's XP loss per death cap like 1m or something pretty darn low like that? And sure you might step on a death trap and lose that XP on your entire party, but you can also go hit lionesses for 15 minutes fully spelled and get that back. . .
There still has to be a detriment to dying, but I'd think it should be around a 20-30 minutes of training penalty, which translates to around 1.5-2m or so cap for level 30+'s. Below that level a fixed percentage wouldn't be bad, of course never being more than the 1.5-2mish range. Currently I could die once on Autek and have it cost me a couple days of playing time with my schedule now. Sure I only play a couple hours a day, but should a player have to play 3-4 hours+ a day just to absorb a PK or death trap and still make progress?
That's my four cents now. . .

I dont think andy should be able to post about xp loss on crits, i mean sure he died some while he wqas out murdering beach crabs, but seriously the dude was on 27 hours a day, ofc exp is easy to get back. I get on a little bit each night to gain some exp and when im off work i play a little more, but im lucky to put 10m on per day without training in one spot til my eyes pop out. It would be nice to not lose half of that in one lil go
Exactly, and I think most of the players who have limited time to play each day are in the same boat.

But you should be able to? LOL. First off you even said urself.. u die once and lose half the xp u could make in a day.. so ur still making x amount of xp and always gaining.. also im pretty sure u dont die once a day? Ppl act like theres 20 walts or piddys running around but that isnt the case nemore sadly 2nd who is gonna pk you? Only time someone dies on 1alt now is from either not paying attention or a death trap.. death traps i think 50% less xp loss would be nice, 50% on pks aswell but like i said.. who pks? everyone pretty much holds hands now. As far as dying in general i think a 20% xp loss reduction from death would be nice and reasonable and still have the consequence from dying. Honestly to die on 1alt now, means either you dont actually "play" the game or pay attention rather or just a tourist without a guide. OR you got ownt by a boss, but a recent system was put in place for some bosses and areas i believe so when u do die you dont lose hardly any xp like you would before. some of which none like coli bosses. (could possibly look that system over and make it alittle better in some cases)
Edit: As far as new players goes, no exp loss from lvls 1-10 or maybe journeyman? And if more ppl were willing to help new players figure stuff out sorta like when i first started, piddy took me under his wing sorta and would help me learn the ropes, but at the same time also pk me from time to time. It was all in good fun. but anyways they wouldnt die as much either. But lets be real whens the last time we seen a actual new player.. same ppl day in and day out for 10 years.. or atleast the 3 that ive been around for.
but in the long run, this is a time consuming game if you want to actually get anywhere.
And alan surely its not 3-4 hours training to gain the xp back on a lvl 36, more like 1 hour.. during those hours are u sitting/talking? 25m in dessy is 3hours(on a lvl 40) u lose 12m if that?
im not saying im against it cuz im 100% for the reduction of xp loss per death but not to the point where u can die 5 times and still make xp in 4 hours time. But when it comes down to it, this is the least of are worrys.. we should be discussing how the fk were gonna get some playerbase back!! we have went from 30ppl last winter season to 20 this yr, id hate to see next yr.. maybe instead of nightmist pics, it would be are webcams and we can post on a nudy site and watch ppl flock to nightmist *jokes*
its sad ppl worry more about how to make their acct better and the negatives instead of just enjoying the positives and the times we get to spend together owning stuff. after all this is pretty much just a chat room with some pics to click on.. em i right? i never played mud games besides this lol. honestly i dont see myself here for another yr tbh
but in the end what do i know.. these are just my views and opinions like everyone elses so no need to say someone cant voice their opinion just cuz they play 3x more then you, cuz actually the person that does play longer and has lvled almost 2 lvl 40s and plenty of 35s/arches would prob know a thing or two more. thats like saying i cant vote on are next president cuz im white. gtfo
ps omg didnt realize i wrote so much lmfao and again sorry for being off topic on some stuff. who RLY cares thou right

Sure I only play a couple hours a day, but should a player have to play 3-4 hours+ a day just to absorb a PK or death trap and still make progress?
I don't think I even lose 12m, but these days I can't stand to even sit in one place and use more than half an inventory of mana, I have to move around to get any fun out of it. And I realize it might be a personal problem not being able to click or tap the same macros for hours on end anymore, but that's just the way I've got to do it if I'm going to have any fun.
Say I hop on and everyone is gathering to go to the dungeon. Go through, take down Teptok, make probably 750k XP, and we're off to the west branch. Go through it a bit, gain a little XP, up to 800k or so, and death trap (classic right? lol). So now I'm down a net of maybe 7m or so (I really don't even die enough to know how much I lose, but I know it is a motivation KILLER!) and am off to go kill stuff on my own since the party more than likely has fallen apart as usual. Say I'm wandering around hitting stuff at an average of 60 POD when you take into account the higher XP stuff with the lower. Hitting an average of 4 rounds per minute, 4 stam each, for 75 damage per hit on 60 POD, I'd make 4.32m per hour. It would take me 1.62 hours of this sort of nonstop training just to break even. Then if the progress I speak of is 5m per evening I get to play, I'd have to play roughly another 1.16 hours.
So 2.78 hours of straight training, but I'm generally around 80% productive with my time while training (delays between attacks, surfing the web, bathroom/food breaks etc.) so in reality it would take me roughly 3.48 hours of playing to meet my lowly 5m per evening XP goal if I were to die.
This is my personal situation: During week days I'm up at 5:30 A.M., at work by 7 A.M., home at 5:30 P.M., eat dinner, visit with the GF a bit, and can start playing by 7 P.M. or so assuming NM is what I'm going to spend my little playing time doing. Now the NM bug has gotten me a little bit so I've been playing a couple hours a night lately, but I've really got to be to bed by around 10 P.M. weeknights if I'm going to be able to function at all at work. A total of 3 hours to spend on NM per day assuming I spend all of my weekday free time playing. That wouldn't even be enough for me to play the way I'd like to play and meet a 5m XP goal on a level 36 if I died!
While I know there are some people out there who have the time to spend 4, 5, 6+ hours per day on here and still do things with their day, I think most of the player base is getting to the age now that we've got jobs and other responsibilities we have to deal with in life and just don't have the time to play as much as we used to.
I think if the XP loss was kept set at whatever percentage it is at, up to the point where it hits 2.5m and is capped there that would be ideal. Would cost a person roughly a half hour or so of run of the mill training per death. Heck I think that's probably still more XP loss than a character on multi lol.
XP loss on say levels 1-10 is not an issue at all, at those levels 1 or 2 hits has your death's XP back and then some. The issue is when it costs you a good chunk of your playing session just to get back to even.
And Andy I didn't mean to quote the part of you not being able to post about whatever, I meant to grab this part:
I get on a little bit each night to gain some exp and when im off work i play a little more, but im lucky to put 10m on per day without training in one spot til my eyes pop out. It would be nice to not lose half of that in one lil go

and tbh ive had days when ive died atleast 3 times, pk death trap etc. i like going new unexplored places, and i go there and fall in a hole try to map my way out and die, or get stuck on an aligator i have no chance of pwning.
i know that its a risk worth taking in a way but tbh i have been back there to map it since because exp loss is a big deterent
