I know this should be in technical support, but since more people read game discussions I am posting here anyway.

If you are one of the people that caught the sasser worm, follow the instructions below to get rid of it:

1. If your system gets a shutdown countdown, go to start>run and type in shutdown -a to stop your comp from rebooting.

2. Download the sasser removal tool from symantec, which can be found here: http://securityrespo...er/FxSasser.exe for further instructions on how to use that tool, visit http://securityrespo...moval.tool.html

3. Disable your system restore.

4. Download the security patch from micosoft that will stop your computer get re-infected here: http://www.microsoft...&displaylang=en

5. To avoid future infections with worms like sasser keep your security up to date by checking for and downloading security patches released by microsoft regularly.

6. It is also wise to use a firewall, which will block most access of such worms to your computer. A decent free one can be found at http://www.zonelabs.com just look for the free version of zone alarm.

Stay safe!

Please go to Windows Update found on your startmenu DAILY, it also contains tools for sorting out this kind of thing.

Additionally, get Service Pack 2 if you haven't already (assuming you're using Windows XP), and set automatic downloading of updates to ON.
If you build it, they will come.

thankyou Tanja. Now players don't have a reason to bug me for help they can do it themselves! Also don't forget http://www.trendmicro.com/ use the free online scan to remove all of the other less damaging files that sasser reproduces

Service Pack 2 practically shut down my computers abilitys however...

I fully and strongly support you getting every update with the EXCEPTION of SP2 (until they can make it right) if you think you might be infected with a virus...chances are you are run your anti-virus weekly or more! no anti virus? you can use a free on found at Trend Micro Online Virus Scanner or try Stop Sign Anti-Virus

I also reccomend keeping a firewall up at all times. Dont have a firewall? well some would reccomend zone alarm which ill give the site for but dont support Zone Alarm Anti-Virus/Firewall but here is what i use and reccomend Sygate Personal Firewall

Hope this helps.

SP2 works fine on machines that are working correctly, however if your machine is messed up big time, a big update like sp2 can stop the pc working and require a reinstall.
Anything i post on here is subject to change at any time without notification to the board.

If you have trouble with SP2, Microsoft has a helpline you can call to let you sort it out. Check their website for more information.

I STRONGLY ADVISE installing sp2.
If you build it, they will come.

i had already contacted them about it thats how i know what it was doing apparently it was overiting the Windows Subsystem 16 bit support for windows xp which is what allows me to run/install windows 95/98/98se/me/nt/& 2000 programs they had no idea how to fix it nor why it did this (at least thats what thier online tech said) and also said they would look for a solution. i just dont know if they found one yet thus the reason i havent got it yet. once i know they found and fixed the problem id be more than glad to get it again. Im not sure when/if microsoft will contact me to let me know the problem was fixed however. =-\

EDIT: spelling

I don't think it's been said already, but virus/worms/ect are often saved with the restore points, so it'd be wise to delete them.
