Player Attitude

I am sure you all have noticed that the general attitude towards other players has reached an ultimate low. People we all knew and respected, people who had a sense of honor and were trustworthy are leaving left and right because they are tired of putting up with increased amounts of theft, cussing, smack talking etc, while those who ruin the game through their immature actions know they pretty well can continue their ways without much fear of punishment.
Things I am asking of other players to try and make life easier on all of us:
Before you open your mouth to insult someone, think about the fact that although you might not see the person, there is still a living human being on the other side of the internet that might get really hurt by your actions and insults.
Quit using your NM skills to try and shut people up. Not every argument can be solved by pking someone. Develope verbal skills instead and try to make valid points. (I am a noob who likes to use stupid phrases and stfu noob are NOT valid points).
Treat others with the same respect you want to be treated with.
Remember that this is supposed to be a game we all play for fun. Yes, we pk each other occasionally, but in the end it's all a game. Anything we own on here is worth no more than monopoly money. Don't ruin friendships over a game, don't cheat or steal.
I wonder why it is so hard for some people on here to remember the simple rules of being a civilized human being, why some of those people get no enjoyment out of it unless they can make someone else miserable. Are your real lives so messed up that you have to vent your anger on people who have never done anything to you? Is a game so important to you that you have to throw away friendships and decency to better yourself at it?
I remember when I was in school we had a way of handling people who behaved in such ways. We simply started to exclude them from anything and everything. I don't know how many decent players are left here, since I watched more and more of them leave over the issues I addressed in here, but it's high time that those who are left do something about it. Exclude them from the community. Don't be scared because they have more alts, higher levels, more skills in the game. Boot them from your clans, take them off your friend lists, stop talking to them, don't buy their crits or items and don't sell any to them either.
As the players we have the chance to show them that we don't want them here, we just have to grow the guts to actually follow through with it. Are we so cowardly and greedy that we have to suck up to them? I think not...
Think about it...

The problem with my idea is that a lot of players simply don't have the nerve to stand up to some of those people for fear of being pked. However, if there are enough that do grow the guts it might just work...

What I say is that you shouldn't insult them back because you then have a slagging match.. just walk away. Yeah so what they might keep paging you and put you on their KOS list, yeah they might make all their clan attack you, but you're the one with a brain, not doing anything because you are SMARTER and BETTER than the 'Slagger'.

I left because the game went downhill. It was obvious how this person had to blame that person for something, then it would turn into a soap opera between more then just the original persons, only to further it'self into who could flame who better. As I just told you in msn, I've concluded that about 85% of the NM community are idiots. Not in the respect that they are dumb, but in the respect they lack the comon curtesy for others as they would like to recieve. Very, very few people still have my respect here. They know who they are.
The game will continue to fall as more and more people decide to join. That's prety much a norm. The larger a community gets the worse the attitudes become. Because someone may be better, have more, or the opposite of this, there will be conflicts that bring this to surface. It's almost as if everyone thinks they're perfect and should be treated as such. I for one am not and never claimed to be perfect(in or out of game) or even good (when I did play), but nowdays it seems everyone is better both ingame as well as out of game.

I was going to start by saying be more specific as to who you are refering to, but then I already knew and I am sure the other players do too.
Then I was going to rant about a topic such as this that was posted on the old forums over 2 years ago. Then I realized that the same person we are talking about today is the same person we talked about 2 years ago. They are still here and the person who started the topic is long gone. So that defeated the whole reason for me starting my post that way.
Then I started over with the thought that if you have a problem with a player that you email JLH unedited text of actual NM conversations in where you feel you have been verbally abused. Then I realized that gets you no where either.
Then I reflected back to a time when where you sat defined the type of player you were. That kind of seems the best way to approach this concidering none of the above ideas worked.
SGH has always been the spot where the nuts talkers gathered. But not just any ole type of nuts talker. These were generally the weaker nuts talkers. The ones who would use personal information to make you look stupid infront of everyone on the square, but would rarely log on an alt for a duel. This one has always been the most popular even for those not talking nuts because is was often the most humorous.
Arilin Gates were filled with people who liked to train. They would often take thier little rangers and druids into the forest hacking away at the big bad bear until someone pked them and then they would bring thier big bad arch army who had until this time sat idle at the gates awaiting a chance to shine. This area also attracted alot of attention, but generally only after a clan would violate they unwritten nopk rule. Then the good times would begin and huge clan wars would be fought at the 4 way. Pots and mana flying every place.
Sewer Entrance #1 was for the bad asses of NM. The ones who talked super smack and wasn't affraid to back it up. If you got the best of them clannies would be called in and some of the best battles ever fought in NM was 1 square down into the sewers.
NGH was genrally your less experianced players. They too would have thier own little mini wars. And would often go untouched by larger more powerful clans. The more powerful players would in most cases just sit back and watch the show so to speak. One of my most memorable moments was at the NGH. While in Crooked Halos myself and several clannies decided to goto the Orc Caves and train. We made what we at the time thought was the most powerful party thier was. This to discourage others from PKing us. But there was a form of evil that just wouldn`t leave us alone. That evil came in the form of a crit named Kalypso. She began tracking our party and simply just would not leave us alone. So we came up with this bright idea that we would take her one north of the northgate house and teach her who was the boss. That didn't work. She on only 1 crit slaughtered our party. As the leader of the party I felt bad. Because the only thing I could see on my screen was pots and mana flying, my clannies being returned to our clan house, and two simple words echoed throughout our clan chat by almost everyone, "Go south!!!!"
One day all this came to a halt tho. It was the day pacifist were created. You couldn't goto the 4 way anymore to battle without a paciing casting JZ ruining all the fun, you couldn't goto sewer #1 to settle personal differances or call other players out without an invis paci and JZ on the square. No one wanted to train in the forest any longer because it is just a sure fired way to get pked and pretty much can't do anything about it. And last but not least you couldn't settle it at a boss. You honestly have no clue how humble players can be knwoing they want to be able to get a shot at a crystal ring or sand wurm hide. You take the pacis out and watch how well people start acting towards one another knwoing that one slip of the tongue means your gonna get popped at the next boss.
I'm not going to suggest getting rid of pacifist (but I would like them gone). What I will suggest is letting were you sit define the type of player you are. There are hundreds of safe squares in this game. Choose one that suits your own personal needs for conversation. Hell be the first one there and define what kind of square you want that to be. Most of the verbal abuse comes from the SGH. Lets be the better player and step away. I personally am going to sit in the fountain in Resthaven.

Don't get me wrong, we (our clan) try and keep our little niche of NM as respectable as any, but there's only so much one little clan can do Essentially we are forced to keep to ourselves and our allies – which works out well for us, for the most part. The rest of NM….good luck :/

Learn some respect for your fellow players. Learn what the game is all about. Its not about who can kill who more or who can curse an talk more smack, its about trust, having fun, meeting new ppl to talk to, and using free time to have something free to play. Lose the stupid attitudes and play the game. What we need is for some ppl to start enforcing the rules around here. Whether it be the NM community patrol or whatever it may be even if like 2 staff are hired to police the game.
FOLLOW THE RULES FOR ONCE!!

Even putting up with someone because they share with an offener would be just like not cutting the person off. But other than that i agree.
Deadman i agree with what you say but you have to remember there are people like me, that unfortunetly spelling and grammer mistakes are a fact of life, it comes when you can barely read with out the letters and numbers dancing a jig on the screen.... But i understood what you meant and would just offer the clerify even if there is no grammer involved, try respectful..

Just some thoughts.....
Edit: Oh also, About what momba was saying... I remember those times to, and I want it to be like good old times.... JLH if you read this, you remember how happy players were in the beginning, now everyone is pissed off at everyone and killing each other because of a insult or rumor. Consider my suggestions staff!

A solution? I am not sure there really is one. There are alot of ways to look at it: Join em? I don't think so. At least that isn't something that would work for me. I truly believe that if you stoop to the level of those that you do not agree with, you are just as bad as them. Now, take this with a grain of salt, am not saying if someone pks you not to hit back.. am not saying to sit there and "take" abusive behavior. What I am suggesting, is possibly walking away. Think about it, I know that this is a game, but what would you do in real life? Take children for example. What does one do when a child is misbehaving? First of all, why not say: "I don't like how you are talking, change your attitude.. " and then walk away? First and foremost though, there are tons of great people in Nightmist. As Lady Maha suggests, don't associate with those that you don't respect perhaps? Or tell em to have a nice day and then ignore them. You can /ignore a player.
Then again, some perhaps are "rude" because of the characters they create in an rp aspect. Hence, if anyone has ever met my crit "Bess Hawkins" she is rather rude, but because I created her as such. If ever anyone has been offended by her rather blatant sarcasm, I do apologize, she was made to be the "opposite" of Amy and rather mouthy. In no way at all do I ever intend out of game or irl insults from her.
Another thing that those that are here to play the game and have fun, meet others and enjoy their time on Nightmist can possibly do is exactly what they are doing.. have fun. Continue setting the example and doing what you enjoy doing. We can't force others to believe in the things that we do, just as they can not force us to act as they do. We each are responsible for our own actions, and each action has consequences.
On a side note: Some also, disrespect the staff as well as other players, by griping about who gets away with what, we are not making the situation any better. We can of course let our opinions be known, but... we are not children (well, some of us aren't).. I get so tired of seeing: Staff helped so and so, and not so and so.. well we are not there perhaps, we don't always know each situation nor what evidence is present. The TOS is clear, the rules are clear. Lets all just try to do our own parts.. if each of us do, it will perhaps get better.
Now, back to what Lady Maha was saying, sorry about my little rant lol.. Don't give in to these peoples but also, don't add to their drama, rudeness, nor to their attempts to ruin the whole game.. it won't and can't be ruined if we don't let it. In essence, as the wise Lady Maha says, ignore them.. ranting back to them only gives them the negative attention they want. To be honest, I think it is rather amusing to reply with merely "Good day, journey safely" after someone insults me. i know it isn't the answer they want, but why should we give them what we want and get ourselves into trouble or break the rules ourselves?
Another thing, I do believe that people can change... if given the opportunity to do so. All of them? Nah, that would be but a pipe dream. However, there are many that I have seen that were right along with the worse of them cursing and insulting, that have tried to turn a new leaf, lets continue to give them positive reinforcement and support.
All in all, ultimately, we can only be responsible for our own actions. Take a good look at yourself, and ask "is that the way I would want to be treated?".. if not, perhaps try something new, and truly attempt to make someone smile today.
Just my two cents.
Good day to all,
Amy of Draco

Point is i don't think a lot of nightmist players that are considered "bad" are half that bad. They just don't relized exactly how disrespectful and rude they are to people. I'm not saying go around and become friends with every one and don't pk. I'm saying stop judging people befor you even know who they are. If your going to kill some one just do it. Countless times i have been pked then paged with nub, noob, and so on. Have some dignity honor and a sence of pride.

I am not saying stop pking, I am saying stop using your pking skills as an argument in something totally unrelated. When you sit somewhere and discuss politics and don't like someone's opinion, will you be able to convince them otherwise by pking them? I don't think so... use facts and verbal skills instead and you might have the chance to change their minds. Not 2 flame ya maha but

Oh, and I don't just sit around and talk. Just because I am not a pker doesn't mean I go out, train my characters, make gold, go to bosses. Pking is a part of the game, but not the sole purpose, and some of us prefer to not pk. That doesn't make us any less good or active though.
