I was so confused by the forum activity and people posting.
How high does one have to be to tunnel 7-years back on the Nightmist forums?

Nope - that's not fair. The 2nd page of Game Discussion gets there - so a very short tunnel.
For best crits on Main:
- Europa - for general gameplay - have to hand it to him on the grind, which is NM greatness
- Disjunction - for PVP - first one with Cobalt Staff of the Winds ages ago; so many event wins, etc.
I think we became less crit-aligned. So even great crits have passed around a lot over the years. I am sure there are better stats, gear, event wins, and such on many current players' crits.

wow I remember that, I tried to solo pk Disjunction once, It didn't work out i had garbage gear/stats and no matter how much damage I did he vamped so much and did way more damage than me.
Best crits also probably comes from personal experiences on NM
For me on main it was probably Old_Fart lol
I played main til 2007 but I started 1a Way later in Late 2012 after a 5 year hiatus from NM, (Which was shortly after 1a lost a ton of active players from what i've heard.) so no opinion on 1a server.

best crit is kind of a shallow and subjective title to be honest
on one hand I tip my hat for someone accomplishing a certain level of power earlier in history
but at the same time? it means very little when you know the secret behind it
there have been so many "meh" rich people on main and 1A throughout nm history
I have personally made the climb on each server
so I have had the privilege of seeing just how bad most "rich" nightmist players actually are once I get to a level of wealth similar to them
once they can't auto win by having a 10 level advantage and stupidly out gearing I realize that mechanically I am just facing off against a senile old man with very expensive things and that they aren't actually good at the game
their movements are slow and their alt escs are weak
generally the pinnacle for these people was reached long before before better players played and before better crits existed
so they were allowed to hoard wealth and status much earlier than other players (which they then abuse by picking on the less fortunate)
the most iconic crits from each era of nightmist have always amounted to whoever happened to get something before other people
or whoever was on the best terms with the most people (questie inheritance/farming/bossing freedom)
old fart? a literal 3 or 4 stat mage that just happened to be in the right place/right time to be the only mage with devastate
bahashabeem? technically the most impressive 30 ranger ever
he had 312 hp (which is still the most ever) when the average hp for a 30 cap halfling is 278-289
were people afraid of him? nope
he was some random mello dude
he was average at the game and had like 2 or 3 arch crits
he also came from a nobody clan and had welfare tier gears
as a hypothetical experiment lets try this...
lets just pretend to paste a generic douchebag personality and make him a founder of TR or a similar clan?
then he could randomly 20v4 smaller players trying to get established then suddenly he would be "cool" and "feared" because he would automatically be in more boss/questie loot rolls and be allowed absolute freedom to train/farm
he also would be in the "cool kid" party that murders all the peasants in every mosh/event simply because of his status
lets go with an even more extreme example and randomly put that same dude in someone's "moose nm I quit" inheritance and he was running around with bracelets of speed and boots of haste
people would probably be spamming his name all over this thread
disjunction? first dude that happened to discover that a cleric or paladin and a cobalt automatically destroys anything else 1v1 because 90% of the server mained generic rangers with enchanted bow for some reason and no one had vamp lol
right now I could freely vomit 90% of the best questies in nightmist history on any character in my account and as long as they are level 40 they would objectively be the best of their class simply because I hold the culmination of 20 years of nightmist history
just rambling and food for thought I guess

Would have been easier to just say you thought bahashabeem was the best rather than show how butt hurt you are with this over exaggerated wall of text.
Thats why we are allowed our own opinion about who We Think is the single best crit is.
At least these players youre dumping all over probably didnt log off every time they see someone that might pk em. Lol

I just used him as an example that his crit was "better" than all the random geared drama queens but he didn't have the gears or clan behind him so nobody cared
were you the guy so desperate for validation you jumped a 31 1 stam pally wearing pvm gear on a 36 mage but failed? or am I thinking of somebody else?

love the childish name calling you use as you throw around "senile old man" "drama queen" you can talk to people without insulting everything they say, might even be easier to talk to em. Just saying.
failed lol, he hit you once and you logged immediately. he wasnt desperate just wanted to pk, some people actually enjoy it.
If it was Varien, it was my mage, but it wasnt me I rarely pk.

First of all - HOLY nuts! It's the GOAT! Kalypso is a name I haven't seen in AGES!
Jen may be the most-known player of all time, especially since NM had so many more players in its heyday!
Second -
Umm...the best crit ever is a subjective assessment? Isn't that the most obvious bit of this conversation?
It started 7-years ago with a halfling fighter, and for him, that's the best crit ever. Plus, he's 100% right and arguing would be silly.
So yea, I think we are well aware it's not some kind of unbiased, statistical analysis of gameplay data.

imma vote Mr_Pirate
its pretty safe to assume its the only level 1 character to ever win a real mosh. i used 14 dark mist potions to stay invisible the whole mosh. pande members called staff saying they couldnt find me and there was a bug or i waas cheating, a staff member (i think aidon?) came and found me, saw what i was doing and told them i was there. they kept running around trying to find me but couldnt. 2 ended up quitting and the last one died of hunger as i sat on the square talking to them.
it was also kitted out with all the cool items. rubber sword, rubber bracelet of speed... had like 35 armor at level 1
Disjunction was pretty nasty. i remember killing him with my level 14 druid Butter after i cast Lesser Wurm morph (before they changed how morph works) on it and and enhanced it; giving my level 14 druid 92 strength. Also, that's what Herric originally dropped; alternate morph potions "Big Bear Potion" and "Lycanthrope Potion" which morphed your druid in to those special morphs. Morphing use to change you stats based on which morph you chose when you morphed so like Lesser Wurm morph was like +35 str -5 dex and lasted like 30 seconds, jaguar was like +2 str +7 dex and lasted like 2 minutes, brown bear morph was like +7 str lasting like 5 minutes, big bear morph gave you like +14 str, lycanthrope was like +10 str +10 dex lasting like 30 minutes; i forget to other ones. they also had level requirements, like lesser wurm i think was 24 where brown bear was like level 10.
For the record, Butters stats were like 18 x 14 15 19 x as a human.... I was too lazy to roll a character, this chick princess_nevermind had been trying to get me to play forever, she had found the game because she had met jose online somewhere and he got her to play. i missed pre-reset but came soon afterwards before all the major changes. when the bosses comprised of only elshira, zanitos, crystal giant, giant chameleon, spider king, demonic general, giant sand wurm, rel-thon, giant centipede, giant crocodile, and atrium monarch. thieves power trained by letting thieves in SDG steal huge amounts of gold from them and stealing it back, most spells were diffrent (morph, greater heal) or not even made yet (clerics had like 7 spells, druids didnt have natures fury, and everyone ran around with rangers and 1 druid to stake out a spot in large forest to trap people with vines and quickly kill them.
Kalypso brings back good and bad memories. Proudest moment from nightmist era was probably jen hitting me up on aim or yahoo messenger all messed up and telling me i was hot. her, jumpsteady, surf, and i think deval (whatever crit he used?) use to prey on me and princess_nevermind pking us every chance they got. became decent friends with deval, developed some stuff with jen that never went in, and married surf in real life lol.
oh.... the good old days.

Been plenty over the years. Would be awesome to know how alot of the old players are doing in life and if they still play online games.
If i had to cherry pick tho i would say Crane/Europa easily.

I keep hoping Ste/Stigmata would show up again. If anyone is in contact with him outside of here please PM me or tell him an old friend is trying to get in touch.
