Hey, just curious if there is anything in store for NM this year, any new items or areas or anything enticing for players to want to play the game?

 

Am I the only one feeling this sense of depression after Christmas is over, back to the age old grind of chasing singular items with 0.0001% drop rate?

I'll acknowledge that I've had to ghost Nightmist post-Christmas.

For me, it was fun chasing some neat stuff - even with the quest loot being middling gear and even in a sort of mundane grind of a familiar area. However, it is hard to see logging in to grind away hours and hours at Stone Dragon, Marshall, and Grande any time soon. It's just lost appeal for me again.

 

Perhaps that is the normal wave of ebbs and flows with playing NM, but the game design has remained strongly reluctant or entirely unwilling/unable to adapt to the grown-up playerbase.

  • Fewer kill-to-pass or lower HP on monsters set that way, especially doors like Portcullis and Sarcophagus
  • Higher drop rates for target items - like WAY higher, 50%+ type of rates for target items. Yes, that means folks will fully gear---but why should I kill Stone Dragon 200-500-times?! It is absurd. I cannot do that as an adult, or at least, I will not.
  • Setup options on Gold Sovereign and Platinum Coins to also trade for XP (similar to the Harabec Token system on 1-Alt)

 

 

However, even with all of those adjustments, I am unsure if Nightmist could retain folks, much less bring people back or entice new players. It's...just very old and stuck.

A new area would probably bring folks back, but that is the constant Band-Aid.

I couldn't agree more Gaddy, let's hope for some real quality of life changes for 2023 for us old timers, and possibly some new exciting end game items?

I think the leveling items really did help on the 1-alt server. You literally have characters hitting level 36 with less than 10 days game time. The grind isn't nearly as hard there.

 

That being said, I do agree about boss drops. Especially on 1-alt where you have to get people to do them. You finally get 4 people together and you can only kill half the bosses, then when you do kill it, you get something pretty uninspiring no one needs. Even if you can get the required people together for something like hornet queen, no one wants to see an insect wing drop, or a mana crystal from gu'ul'arg.

 

On Multi being able to kill bosses alone helps, but the drop rates shouldnt be 2-5%. No one has time to play 60 hours a week anymore like we did back in the day.

 

On 1-alt the top bosses should always drop good items. You get the people together finally for something and getting a null drop just isn't a good idea. You don't have to worry about flooding the game because people just aren't doing it. People shouldn't have to solo lyzanther for 2 hours for 3 months to get a single ring. I don't think the drop rate should be 50%, but 10-20% on certain things definitely isnt out of the question when you have 2-3 people logging on.

New areas are always nice, but it's just a short "this is interesting" until it isn't. On multi it's probably more interesting because you can do it yourself, on 1a that just isn't the case if theres going to be a boss most likely, and then its just another place to grind without other players.

I agree with null drops being taken off of high tier bosses, but we do all but 2 bosses with 3 people.

The items aren't the problem, its the rate at which the items drop. Tokens just take less time, sure more expensive in later levels but as you said  "No one has time to play 60 hours a week anymore like we did back in the day."

 

nulls and useless drops we can agree on.

 

Be nice if more items were added to cursed obsidian forge. Main still has a better system tho, we get to upgrade a ring to +2 from +1 which is cool but the only one's worth using that on is the super rare Amethyst Ring, or Ruby Ring. It is a waste of time once you have those.

 

As Cody said Killing the bosses isn't a problem at all, maybe stone whisperer area we cant do.. but one of the main drops from the boss there has been handed out like candy the last few quests. Also a bunch of them just either have no value in killing at all or once we've all got the drop from it we no longer see a point in killing them anymore.
