So my issue is likely a problem with something on my machine rather than with Nightmist itself. After I download and run the installer, the first time I run the game as admin so it gets the permissions it needs. After that if I try to run the game normaly it tries to run the installer for a completely different game. The game it is trying to run the installer for does not even exist on my PC anymore. I removed it trying to see if this would fix the issue. As long as I run the .exe in admin mode it works normaly, however just double clicking will try to run the installer for the other game every time. Any help with fixin this would be appreciated.

Nightmist is a pretty old program that was last properly updated in the days of Windows XP, so it doesn't abide by the rules set by Windows Vista in regards to where everything is installed.

When you install the game, make sure you do NOT install it under Program Files.  The best place to install it is in your user directory somewhere.  e.g. C:\Users\[You]\Games\Nightmist

See if that helps.

I have been running it in Compatibility mode on windows 10, but I was using 7, so maybe I just need to switch to XP? or is that whole compatibility thing not worth using?

Uninstalled and reinstalled to the suggested location, didn't change the result.

I'm not sure why it's behaving that way, I'm afraid.  All I can suggest is to make sure the installer is run with admin privileges, the program is not installed in a restricted location like Program Files, and if it still behaves strangely when you try to run it normally, then to create a shortcut or otherwise configure the properties so it always asks for administrator privileges.  It's not ideal, I know.

Yea I was afraid this was just an odd ball issue. I currently have it running as admin when I open it from a shortcut :). It wouldn't be a problem except I had that sound the popup plays, it gets so annoying. Especially when I'm running manna and l2l each trip lol.
