It's either someone was sleepy or the brawler just had a little too much scotch! :)

Its probably making fun of his drunkenness.

Or the creator was drinking on the job.

Sorry to annoy you, but he wasn't drinking scotch, otherwise his drink would be spelt "whisky" instead of "whiskey"!

Basically, the Bar Room Brawler is very drunk and his look-over mentions that he is chanting words unheard of. What he says there, let's just say that that is the nearest possible reconstruction of the pronounciation... and yes, Stotic was probably having a few beers at the time!

'Scotch' in real terms means whisky from Scotland. Since there is no Scotland in NM the term 'scotch' is either 1-incorrect, or 2-a nickname for generic whisky. If that is the case then, unlike in RL, it can be spelt any way!

(for those wondering what Crane was on about with the spellings, if it comes from Scotland or Canada its called 'whisky', while if it comes from Ireland or USA its 'whiskey'. anywhere else its called 'Paint Stripper'.)

edit - you can actually get 'whisky' from USA, but the 2 most common american whiskies, bourbon (Jim Beam, Bulleit ect) and Kentucky (Jack Daniels), as well as most others, are both spelt 'whiskey', and they make up 99% of the american whiskies you see behind the bar.
