For eons the insatiable warmachine that was man strove to reach the heavens. Alchemists and thaumaturgists mixed mineral with metal, and blacksmiths joined builders in crafting great contraptions. Smoke streamed skyward from man's copious cities, beacons that attested to both power and proficiency. Yet as man clawed and consumed the land's resources, it neglected to notice the vast price of its progress, and the terrible toll it took on Mother Nature. As she cried out, forests turned fearsome and mythical creatures came crashing forth from the remaining reaches of the land. The forces of Gaia heard her call, and concluded coexistance with man was futile. They realised only the complete annihilation of man could restore balance.
The war for the spheres had begun.
