You've got a Rabbit Meat in your inventory, and want to make room for a healing potion really quick.
You (because, like me, you're lazy, or you're on a laptop and it takes too much time to move and click, and you're a fast/accurate typist) you type in:
/drop rabbit
you will get the following message:
You don't have a rabbit on you.

However. if you type: "/get ra" you see:
You picked up a Rabbit Meat.

So... why not make the /drop command behave more like the /get command in that respect?

What the what?

I think the reasoning behind /drop being exact wording only was so that it would prevent you from dropping anything really valuable accidentally. I don't mind it either way, but if it is changed, it will happen only under the condition that staff do nothing to help you if you make that mistake.

Not a change that will happen.
The reason is what Trev said above.

It is the same as the way there is no "Withdraw All" button in the banks anymore, but you can still type /withdraw all and take out all of your gold.
Players make mistakes, and it takes too much time to clean up, unless other players are overly-nice.
Wisdom is the principle thing. Therefore, get wisdom, and in all your getting, get understanding.

that's exactly the reason, people were doing silly things like dropping cobalts when they meant to drop other things, so to stop the whining, extra safety ('anti newb') features were added :)
