see, this is why they should make Pot legal, i mean, nobody has ever died from smoking it, people die from it because they smoke it and go parachuting or go drive on the highway or go feed aligators or something crazy while they are high, therefore they have a very very VERY slow reaction time, and studies show, that Slow Reaction Time = Death...well i just made that up, but you get the point

And that's why they should make it legal? You've just given a damn good case to keep it illegal.

I won't vote ont he options shown, as you're wanting a specific answer that I can't give. I am against it, but so long as it doesn't affect me directly, I don't mind what people do. I am for banning smoking in some public places, but in registered establishments it should obviously be allowed.

As for pot, I don't smoke it, but I'm still all for it..

I think smoking in general is stupid, and people who say that cant quit are even more moronic. tests have shown that in 3 days all the stuff that makes you addicted is out of your body.

Also, everyone starts to either look tough or something similar. You're body has to get used to it first, first package all you do is cough, no one likes it when they start smoking.

Oh, and please don't go against this, cuz i'll just prove it and make you look like an idiot.

Ciggie smoking is more addictive than Heroin
The withdrawals from trying to quit can be almost homicidal
I advise people never to start its the best advice, cuz once you start it's so very hard to quit and stay quit.
I have quit many times but always start back up again :P

In public places no.
Where you are hurting no-one but yourself, (and others like you), if you're the kind of person who wants to, it's a great feeling.

I agree, however you are wrong about 3 days it's out of your body, 3 months more like.
smoking is very hard to stop because of this, and it is designed by the tobacco companies to be enjoyable to get kids to start it and fund their large profits.

So, I figure by not smoking, i'll save myself like...several hundred thousand dollars and a bunch of years of my life. Gosh, and by not drinking, another several hundred thousand dollars and even more years of my life!

I don't really know if it would be several hundred thousand dollars, but it's a lot of money. Maybe alchohol and smoking combined would be several hundred thousand dollars considering I would start smoking and drinking regularly at age 21.

You guys don't really see what's happening because of this. I guess it really needs to hit home before you idiots realize what can happen. Here, i'll give you an example. Actually, this isn't an example, it really happened.

My father says to my mother, "I'm sorry, i'm not going to grow old with you". He had been smoking and drinking for the majority of his life and knew he wouldn't live as long as he should. Isn't that messed up? Having to tell your spouse that you will die 40 years before them. Take this into consideration next time you want to take a puff or a swig.

And now he's dead.

Everyone knows the risk involved and what can come from smoking/drinking..lots of people smoke for 50+ years and dont get a single thing wrong with them from it, granted you have a better survival rate if you dont smoke but..its your life and do with it how you please. And dont call everyone idiots because they smoke..thats just stupid

Actually its more like the first one you have, all that happens is coughing. The first pack you get this wonderful buzz but once that is gone you need the damn things.

I have been smoking for over 15 years now (with a 3 year break and a 1 year break when I had my kids), and although I admit smoking is bad for your health (I am out of breath a lot faster than most non-smokers my age) I think I can safely say that smoking has not made me look older and has not ruined my voice. Ask all those who have seen and heard me in rl.

As for the addiction part, yes, the physical addiction you can cope with in a rather short time, but it's the mental addiction that makes smoking so hard to quit. In those 3 years I didn't smoke after having my first child I still craved cigarettes in certain situations (Epic mentioned a few: after sex, after dinner, etc.).

The thing is, sure, they may think nothing would be different, but they don't know that because they have been smoking for 50 years. They would be more physically fit, have more energy, have a better smile etc...

Your quality of life is higher when you don't smoke. I just think it's a damned shame that people want to do this to themselves.

I smoke for 4 years, and my voice hasnt changed... or anything... smoking may be bad but think about the people who work 14h a day just to get some money home, and they are always pissed off... so instead of beating their wife/children... they smoke...

Where you are hurting no-one but yourself, (and others like you), if you're the kind of person who wants to, it's a great feeling.

i disagree with that. second hand smoke does not, in fact, kill people. it doesn't really hurt people unless they're allergic to smoke in which case you have to assume a certain amount of personal responsibility that isn't uncommon for any other allergy. if you're allergic to peanuts, you make sure your food doesn't have any of that, if you're allergic to smoke you make sure your diner doesn't have that either.

as a smoker, and as a smoker in a town where smoking is banned in public businesses, i'm very annoyed by the recent upsurge in antismoking laws. my cigarrettes are even taxed a quarter. people rationalize it all by saying "it's a bad habit and should be discouraged", but people shouldn't be treated unfairly because they smoke. it was my choice, i like it. however, just because someone is annoyed by smoke, doesn't grant them the right to ban smokers from thier sight. quite frankly, small children annoy the crap out of me, and i'd love to see small children banned from public business also. one damned kid talks louder than 40 adults in a restaurant. however, that's considered to be an unfair comparison, because kids don't cause cancer. well, neither does second-hand smoke.

thank you dining with us, children or non?

I disapprove of smoking myself, as it doesn't do your body any favours and has no purpose other than a form of release in this day and age. Though I dislike smoking, I can't hate smokers. I don't like people smoking in buildings and enclosed spaces as non-smokers suffer from the fumes - it should only be done outside.

everyone takes the health matter into consideration. you have to be blind and illiterate to not know that inhaling dozens of cubic feet worth smoke every day is bad for you. that's where the problem is really. it's just my opinion, but i believe most people ignore the health issues because they believe they can quit, and have no prior experience with being addicted to a readily available commodity that's ingrained into your daily routines. if in health class, instead of showing everyone jars of tar, they showed children a smoker who loves to smoke. maybe someone would get the point, when you're a smoker, you love to smoke, and that feeling never goes away. while you could quit smoking, you'll always know that smoking is a ton fun. people grasp the physical issues of smoking much more readily than the psychological ones. wounds heal, surgery fixes stuff, tar does leave your lungs naturally (elsewise every smoker would drown in two years time), and physical addiction ends in a week. but that's not even half of it, smokers can quit smoking but they can never be non-smokers. a week before i started smoking, a friend offered me a ciggarette, and a week later i couldn't understand how i felt indifferent to smoking a week ago, or how i could feel like that again. anyone can understand health, but very few people manage to grasp the seriousness of addiction without personal experience.
