Instead of been a mosh or some variation of it.
there should be lore and poetry contests. So creativity is enhanced in nighmist.
and instead of cash/item prizes you should get titles eg.

1) Minstrel Crazzy is a Male Dwarf Adept Cleric. He looks strong, wise, fast, and sexy. In one hand he holds a Staff of Elements. He is wearing an Oak Vest. Around his neck sits a Silver Amulet. He is a member of Defenders Of Ktulu and he has been slightly wounded.

2) Bard Crazzy is a Male Dwarf Adept Cleric. He looks strong, wise, fast, and sexy. In one hand he holds a Staff of Elements. He is wearing an Oak Vest. Around his neck sits a Silver Amulet. He is a member of Defenders Of Ktulu and he has been slightly wounded.

3) Philosopher Crazzy is a Male Dwarf Adept Cleric. He looks strong, wise, fast, and sexy. In one hand he holds a Staff of Elements. He is wearing an Oak Vest. Around his neck sits a Silver Amulet. He is a member of Defenders Of Ktulu and he has been slightly wounded.

Then maybe some little things like when a Minstrel/Bard/Philosopher enters a room with NPC's they bow.

A bank clerk bows before you.
A bank clerk Bows before Bard Crazzy

or is that too much? well feedback please

It isn't medieval, or whatever.. It's fantasy, hear that word there... fantasy. True, yes, vaguely based around a medieval time, but not medieval.

I like the idea alot. The aspect of gaining a title (even for a limited period), actually really appeals to me. Not only for this sort of contest, but also for moshes, would be nice to see an addition to a persons name for winning a mosh (titles reset every Sunday 23:59).

I have and always will support additional titles for characters.

However, I see problems arising in a poetry contest. Whoever judges the contest will constantly get bad-mouthed - they will constantly be called cheaters and bias.

Though the idea is great, I see it causing much grief for staff members.

Captain Wyslen shoots a silver pistol, from midevil? Really? Holy crap. I thought we didn't get stuff like that till 1800s.

Yeh what Ryuku said. + a few of the other things that make it non medievel:

Games Room (Execpt Pong, that probably was here from the stone age.)
Pagers (Hmm i wonder if the knights of the round table had good ringones.)
Ping (The only reason Merlin won was because there was too much lag....)
Pirate Hat (Medievel Pirates. Sounds good to me)

More to follow later......

As long as there has been sailing, there have been pirates. I think the earliest sea-farring people were the Minoans (early Greek). Off the top of my head, I think that was 3000 BCE.

Edit: God, that was so off topic. XD

How exactly do you judge poetry? Is there a kind of scheme to it?

It isnt the pistol that is odd, its the flying airship.

How exactly do you judge poetry? Is there a kind of scheme to it?

Poetry could be judged on content, spelling, grammar. There could be a topical poetry contest, so then most suited/closely linked. Limited word per verse/stanza. Rhyming poetry, freestyle.. etc etc..

Obviously one judge isn't enough (due to bias, different likes, etc). A panel of several judges should be formed (say, 3 or 5 judges), who could slowly pick off the poems until they're down to 5, then keep eliminating until a winning poem is produced.

But yeah.. Would have to be more of a player run thing, as I doubt staff have the time for such an event.

yes a panel of 5 player judges is good. B)

and good idea again for topical poetry.

so heres refined idea:

Monthly/Fortnightly poetry contest
judged by panel of 5 player judges
poems on chosen topic decided by judges (poetic council :))
prize of a title. Sir/Lady/Baron/Baroness/Bard/Minstrel/Philosopher (work your way up titles) so on your second win instead of recieving "sir" or "lady" you get the baron/baroness titles etc.

Well again is tht ok?

poetry contest in medieval times? 1 They would get shot.

Actually, poetry 'jousts' at that time were very common to gain patronage, and hugely popular, especially during the authum shedule when the majors were showing re-runs.......

I like the idea of attaining titles, but not just restricted to poetry, moshes and maybe certain quests could have a title as prize.

I also think you should be able to buy titles, for a suitably outrageous amount.

After speaking breifly with JLH on the subject, he wasn't all for the idea. So I doubt the whole title thing would be able to go right ahead, but a cash prize would be easy to put together.

Lets see if players can organise something.. I'll let someone of vague intelligence start it up, just say if you need any help along the way.

ok so no title prize..
cash sounds ok
or maybe just a lute? for show? :)

But i just think NM needs a cultural background too, plus more creative people who arnt very good trainers can make some cash.
because whats a city without culture? do the citizens of NM walk around with glum expressions, heads to the ground?
I'll let you decide B)

edit: also if JLH dosnt make this officially can i get some people who would help judge a player supported poetry contest, also some advertisers

I'd gladly support the display of intelligent and poetic behavior on NM and would volunteer to donate for price money (even if I don't have much to donate) as well as judge if asked to do so.

Though I don't have a lot of gold, I would gladly donate what I could for this.

One question, I'm assuming this would be in-game so...where exactly do you set it up? I would say SGH but some moose-tard is bound to mess it up.
