Has anyone noticed all this low carb crap? Every mother trucking commercial is like "low carb this, no carb this, a new pill to cut carbs!". Who the truck cares other then people who fall for these trend diets.

It gets a bit ridiculous when you see commercials for low-carb bread for mooses sake, even a low carb coke.

Omfg i'm going to kill this atkins guy or something. :) :)

These people are retarded.

They don't even know what a diet is.

They think eating a special candy bar everyday will make them beautiful.

Consumer America sucks.

Squee has the general idea, but let me explain in a little more detail.

Carbohydrates in the most basic definition, are the fuel for your muscles. When food is consumed, it is broken down and digested, then released into the blood stream by insulin, and in turn, provides your muscles with the energy they need to function.

Foods are seperated into two types (generally). Complex carbohydrates and simple carbohydrates, what defines whether it simple or complex is defined by the rate at which the sugars in the food are released into the blood stream. A simple carbohydrate is mostly immediately released into the blood stream, and is generally found in products that are highly sweet or are a sugar based product.

A complex carbohydrate is realeased into the blood stream gradually, that is to say, it is an energy that burns over a large peroid of time. Complex carbohydrates, as mentioned by Squee, are food with a high starch content such as bread, potato, rice and many other wheat products.

Low carb diets can be very dangerous, especially if you are a highly active person. Your body could not possibly be recieving the fuel it needs unless you stop to eat like every hour and a half, if that long. The idea behind the low carb diet is fair enough, as it removes alot of the weighty products from ones diet, however, by removing said products, it is also removing one of the primary scources of energy from the body.

You know the best diet is to get off your ass and go do something. All these ppl with the low carbs stuff are just getting rich off the other ppl who sit infront of the TV all day and watch these carb ads.

I say to the rest of the world, I have the perfect low carb diet for ya and you can eat whatever you want. Get off the couch and use that fat on your ass to fuel your body. And this diet is currently on a 30 day trial. Try it, if you dont like it your couch will still be there and no harm done. I say again, feed the need and move your ass!

I'm actually 30 lbs over-weight for my height. ^^;; I checked on of those height-weight table thingies. I stand at 5'8" to 5'9" with a medium build...but I weigh 185 lbs. ^^;

I'm not physical built at all. That's not to say I'm not fit...just not a body-builder type. ^^; I played hockey every winter since I was 5 years old for 9 years. For 5 years, I would go to hockey-camp in the summer. For two years, I've taken tennis lessons. Last year, I even joined my school's rowing team.

However...I don't seem to be gaining muscle mass OR losing weight. ^^; In fact, I just seem to gain weight.

Err...Anyways, I guess what I'm trying to get at is...well...for some people, it's really hard to lose weight. Sometimes, the genetic factors just out-weigh your want to lose weight.

Edit: And don't tell me it's because my bodies changing and what-not. I gained 30 lbs one summer. That's can't healthy.

Squee, you do realise that muscle weighs more than fat right?

Edit:
I just did some conversion of lbs to kg. Squee, in kg you weigh 84kg. I'm like an inch shorter than you and weigh 75kg, which is the healthy weight bracket for people of our age/stature. Whoever gave you that information on your weight is on drugs, that would mean you or I would need to weigh less than 70kg to fit the 'healthy' criteria. The bracket that you've been provided sounds like it's more appropriate for females. Guys our height would have to be severly undernourished to weigh as little as that, I mean, I have to lift girls around that weight in class!

Being 5'10 myself, and weighing a sound 200 pounds. would that mean Im a fat lovable companion? I think so... But im not fat, its just big bones!! BIG BONES I TELL YOU!!

Seriously though, I think the most common mis-conception with weight lifting and working out is the 'weight loss' part. I think it would be more accurately described as 'Bulk loss' Seeing as if you work on a consistent basis, you will only lose weight in the first few months of your workouts. After that point you would start to GAIN weight because your body is building more muscle mass to cover your body properly. You could very well be a very toned person, who is seen as slim by many, and indeed be heavier than a fairly obese person who could be three times the size of you.

As deval pointed out, that is simply because muscle itself weighs more than fat does, and often people are very disappointed with a workout schedule or a diet plan because they start to gain weight *Even though they are getting positive signs from their body, and are indeed LOSING bulk* and totally withdraw from any form of excersise. Which usually results in a ballooning effect of sorts. Your body simply reverts to what it was, because you are no longer upkeeping a toned body.

Heh... Kinda amazing what kind of workout stuff I learned while being a football player. :)

Didn't Atkins die of a heartattack or something?? Gee I wonder why... >.> Many people believe that he died as a result of his own diet, but he had to have known how dangerous it is and didn't use it. Kinda like how drug dealers don't smoke their own stuff. Then again, he was probably just as stupid as those people who believe him.

And you know what I'm sick of? People complaining about being overweight and doing nothing but sitting on their arses. Even worse is when they whine about how they can never find any nice cloths that fit them and make up stupid excuses like it being genetic or that they're "big boned." It still doesn't mean they're hopelessly doomed to being fat forever. Boohooo! Build a bridge and run a marathon over it. Here's a thought, stop eating McDonalds, start eating healthy, and exercise. And if you're too lazy to, then don't complain.

Also, don't become victims to those new diets that'll probably kill you in a couple years down the road. Losing too much weight too soon isn't healthy and could result in the weight coming back faster. My stupid friend took some online test that told him he is overweight by 13lbs so he went on a water diet... wtf? Starving himself on purpose is stupid. Malnourishment will make the gases in the stomach expand and the stomach to bulge out like those starving Ethiopian kids.

I bet everyone's thinking that I'm some sort of superficial persion or something, but I really don't hate overweight people. I just can't stand the ones who are obnoxious, loud-mouthed, whiny, or does retardedly dangerous things to their health thinking it's good just because some dead guy's book said it is.
(Also yes I know thyroid problems can cause obesity in some cases.)

But but.... Im NOT fat... Its just big bones! seriously!

No, Im not kidding, I have the bone structure to be a big muscle bound guy, but because I dont work out very much im just lean instead. The only reason I'm not grossly overweight is because my metabolism is on quarter faster than the average person *Or so I was told last time I was in the hospital, and they couldnt figure out why the drugs they gave me kicked in so quickly.*

So in a way, my body is perfectly setup for me to lift weights and get big and bulky like some full time weight lifter... BUT im a lazy lovable companion, so Im forever doomed to stay scrawny! :)

Hope you like my lifes story. Isnt it awesome!

P.S: I dont even know why im posting this... must be because im bored.

I know plenty of dealers who smoke their own stuff. They just know how much they can smoke before cutting into their profit.

As for the Atkins bullnuts, I have to say this much, some of those Atkins Friendly wraps that places sell are pretty good. But, like Foamy says on http://www.illwillpress.com , I am not going to start doing math before I eat to see if its a food that is too high in carbs for me to eat. I walk over a couple miles almost everyday, I get outside everyday and do something or another in the yard, I excersie here in my room (100 pushups/sit-ups etc) every other day. This Atkins bulllnuts is just like another sugar-free kool-aid or another soy diet. Its a way for ppl and the media to capatilize on something for the time being. Give it time someone will die from something else and there will be a all new Poor dead guy diet out.
