State Of The Realm

Both servers:
- The playerbases are smaller than last year, but no longer shrinking.
- Most of the older/wealthier/overpowered players have shifted to 1a or stopped playing completely.
- The amount of gate sitting is way, way lower than it has ever been. People are actually playing.
- We see few if any events, mostly because there are too few players to run them.
- We have regular release of new quests and events, which players seem to be enjoying.
- The number of theft/abuse complaints is far down from what it was a year ago.
- We don't see the admins very much.
- There are usually 2-3 staff on at any time, split between the servers.
Multi:
- We're seeing new players who are sticking around.
- People who play there are really enjoying the no-PK policy.
- Teamwork and cooperation among players is much higher than ever before.
- There has been remarkably little staff/player abuse... people are actually friendly and helpful for the most part.
1a:
- More active than the multi server.
- Players are very competitive, which results in more discipline problems.
- Has never really been balanced effectively and has some huge problems with fairness.
- Has a lot more problems with players claiming bias.
- Is dominated by a few large teams of players, which blocks out new players.
- Difficult to deal with since many changes have not been documented.
The future of multi:
I'm going to continue taking the lead on multi, with Elf and Stadius lending a hand. We'll have new areas coming out regularly and some new quest events. We will continue a zero-tolerance policy for players who steal or abuse staff. There are challenges for hardcore players (Dvergar Stronghold) that nobody has yet solved and new areas for lower levels coming out in the next few weeks.
The future of 1a:
With Azure stepping down, Scripto will take the lead on 1a. Oracle and Elf will lend a hand. I'll provide whatever support Scripto needs to get things rolling, but am mostly going to stay out of the way as I did when Azure was in charge of 1a.
Happy New Year, everyone. Hope you continue to enjoy playing.

Originally I moved over to the 1 alt server because 95% of the main server is a cake walk, and the other 5% is really hardcore. That and the fact that I got tired of sitting at the gatehouse and logging on boss checkers every 20 minutes or so.
On the 1 alt server I started up again as a paladin as I've always played, but soon realized that with the pk fest that the sever is, you have to play as some sort of stealth, be it a mage, druid, or thief. Otherwise you find yourself continuously being jumped. So I moved to playing a druid. It's been fun, and far more of a challenge than I had on the main server, but the training has become so repetitive that it's lost it's luster.
Anyways, I guess I'm one of the older players that has been bouncing back and forth, or quit playing. I also just got my X-Box fixed, and been playing X-Box Live quite a bit hehe. . .

There is a lot of people wondering what is happening, so I thought that I'd post my impression on the state of the realm at the start of the new year. This is based on discussions with most, but not all, of the active staff.
Both servers:
- The playerbases are smaller than last year, but no longer shrinking. - Weedled out the weak and useless
- Most of the older/wealthier/overpowered players have shifted to 1a or stopped playing completely. - Yay
- The amount of gate sitting is way, way lower than it has ever been. People are actually playing. - Pity about the zeum though, was sitting a lot less till someone molested the art!
- We see few if any events, mostly because there are too few players to run them. - Playing without dying is an event imo.
- We have regular release of new quests and events, which players seem to be enjoying. - We are, pity I was away for the xmas quest though.
- The number of theft/abuse complaints is far down from what it was a year ago. - Those trouble makers grew up and are sharing a cell block I think ...
- We don't see the admins very much. - See above (tee hee)
- There are usually 2-3 staff on at any time, split between the servers. - Sadly only 2 or three actually do anything useful.
Multi:
- We're seeing new players who are sticking around. - Wish they'd pay attention to the tutorial and also less begging would be nice, but yes fresh meat is always a nice change.
- People who play there are really enjoying the no-PK policy. - Yes!!
- Teamwork and cooperation among players is much higher than ever before. - Because of the no pk, we're not getting dragged out with full invents and being pk'd by knobs!
- There has been remarkably little staff/player abuse... people are actually friendly and helpful for the most part. - Cell blocks don't allow NM apparently unless you bribe the right people
1a:
- More active than the multi server. - more access as a special treat for cell locks with high bribes maybe?
- Players are very competitive, which results in more discipline problems. - Jealousy of cell block treat abuse?
- Has never really been balanced effectively and has some huge problems with fairness. - Was a half hearted slap dash attempt to hide the failure of DS
- Has a lot more problems with players claiming bias. - Staff should not be in clans (on 1a), problem solved.
- Is dominated by a few large teams of players, which blocks out new players. - Cell Block sharing, part of rehab
- Difficult to deal with since many changes have not been documented. - Would you want a paper trail to your failures?
The future of multi:
I'm going to continue taking the lead on multi, with Elf and Stadius lending a hand. We'll have new areas coming out regularly and some new quest events. Woohoo!!!
The future of 1a:

I'll provide whatever support Scripto needs to get things rolling, but am mostly going to stay out of the way as I did when Azure was in charge of 1a. - We appriciate all you do/have done for multi, your efforts have not gone unappriciated or un-noticed.
Happy New Year, everyone. Hope you continue to enjoy playing.
Please note that many of the replies are just in jest. If you get offended or upset with any reply/response then please feel free to browse ebay for sense of humour. HAve a wonderful 2008 and may you all have a fantastic year where all your wishes and dreams come true.
Long live NM!!

The Christmas Quest was relatively easy compared to others, but it was designed in a way so that most players, not a select élite, could participate. With more long-term quests, hopefully players won't miss out if they are unable to attend one due to real-life commitments. I feel the multi-server especially is really starting to look up.
