part 2 could involve re-writing assassination when the thief is visible, eg:

With a deft feint, Shrooms slips inside your guard and delivers a fatally accurate strike to your throat. Your death is instantaneous.

Different smite messages could definitely be evaluated, as "Hollow killed you!" isn't particularly exciting. Regarding assassination though, I remember in my early days when I would be training alone and then I would see "You were assassinated.", not even seeing who killed me. If the would-be assassin is visible or fails to kill you, then a more exciting message could indeed be composed, but I'd keep the silent, perfect assassination as is.
