On a serious note, for anyone wanting to undertake such a project as the NM helper (from someone that built one of the first fan sites that hosted maps for everyone), don't do something and expect anything from others because of it. If you don't feel comfortable doing it for its own sake, or simply for yourself, don't do it at all.
I don't regret the projects I've done, and continue to do, as a fan of nightmist - some people use them, many don't, but I've learned a lot and accomplished a lot and don't need others support or admiration.
With the right intent, such projects are worth while - good luck
