Now, I know most people do not want any more offensive spells for a Mage, so two of my suggestions are what I call "support" spells. The third is an offensive spell that works better against certain monsters than players - you will be using Blast or Beam instead mostly.

Enlightenment

Mana Cost: 25
Level: 15
Gold Cost: 2000
Description: Many mages seek spiritual enlightenment in order to be at one with the magic they use - very few reach enlightenment, but mastering this spell calls upon the spirits to give them a taste of what it feels like to be enlightened.
Effects: Increases Intelligence and Wisdom by 2 points each for 3 minutes.
Casting Message: You cast Elightenment on yourself; you feel at one with your magic.
Expire Message: The feeling of elightenment has vanished.
Other Notes: Self-cast only. Mutually exclusive with Energise.

Energise

Mana Cost: 25
Level: 20
Gold Cost: 3000
Description: Some advanced mages can effectively cause someone to radiate magical energy through the pores of their skin, which helps to neutralise the effects of offensive magic used against them.
Effects: Increases Wisdom by 5 points for 3 minutes.
Casting Message on yourself: You cast Energise on yourself; you sense a strong magic radiating from your body.
Casting Message on a player: You cast Energise on [player]; you sense them radiating magic from their body.
Target's Message: [player] cast Energise on you; you sense a strong magic radiating from your body.
Expire Message: The magical energy is no longer radiating.
Other Notes: Mutually exclusive with Enlightenment.

Seismic Tremor

Mana Cost: 20
Level: 21
Gold Cost: 3000
Description: By focusing magical energy through the structure of objects, the very molecules can shake themselves apart in a devastating fashion.
Effects: Does about the same damage as Blast (except it has a far higher mana cost), but does double damage against objects (Doors, Chests etc.); damage is amplified underground.
Casting Message: The deep rumbling is heard and the ground starts shaking as seismic shockwaves pulverise [target] for XX points of damage.
Target's Message: The deep rumbling is heard and the ground starts shaking as seismic shockwaves pulverise you for XX points of damage.

I'm not so big a fan of the first two spells (on my thread i created earlier, with 'Foresight' I will be posting some stat increasing spells, waiting for a bigger reply to my original spell however), but i like the idea of the last one. I think its a good idea giving a one spell an increase underground... I have to admit that i like spells that create a use for carrying a mage with you, and this one certainly creates a use-- helpful in orc caves, an extra help killing granites on the way to desert. I support the last, but not the first two.

I really like the first two spells. ^^ I don't see any flaws in them. The third one is pretty nifty as well.

I can't think of much else to say. :)

My flaw i see with them is they have same increase for everyone- I'm in the process of developing some, with formulas for increase. An increase of 5 wisdom greatly overpowers as well, their magical resistance would be far to great. Mana costs and increases need to be tweaked a little imo.

Wow...mages have been adjusted, they are good now...these would be retarded. No offense to you Crane, before they were messed with, all of these would kind of make sense (a bit too strong of +s on stats I think, even w/o update)...but they are plenty strong now. Hence having won the triplex for the past few weeks and stuff.

Lets not start basically screaming out "Make my mage dominate everything in Nighmist super-easy!" just cause they're a little tough to train lower level.

They still are rough to train at low levels, that's why Enlightenment is level 15 minimum, when training becomes easier. The stat-enhancing spells I was basing off Divine Prayer and Champions Strength a little bit - energise is there so you can give yourself or another crit some extra magic resistance for a short while. The idea behind Seismic Tremor is a spell that you can use it to destroy doors quickly or to cause a bit more damage to monsters and, heaven forbid, players underground, although the mana cost restricts its use.

I don't think a +5 wisdom increase is that drastic. A mage on mage duel would be a little bland...but I don't see why a mage can't simply "Dispell" the effects.

I can only think of Druids being a little hindered when they fight mages...but they can just leech the mana from Mages anyways.

There are also monsters that use magical attacks (do monsters even use magic to attack you?) but I don't think that would cause any problems.

Lets not start basically screaming out "Make my mage dominate everything in Nighmist super-easy!" just cause they're a little tough to train lower level.

I know mages were given that little boost that they needed...but don't you find it a bit odd that Clerics and Druids both have more spells than Mages? I know it doesn't sit right with me. I'm not asking for these super powerful Devastate spells...I just want Mages to do more than simply make people Invisible and cast Beam.

Seismic Tremor should be more powerful than Beam against players and regular monsters underground, except with a far higher mana cost, so you are forced to use it sparingly.

I'm all for new spells for mages, but as things stand adding any of those support spells would completely unbalance mages when fighting most other classes.

Oh, and having a zerker with 30+ str. attacking you with a BoT isn't overpowering? People should ph34r arch mages.

I really dislike people who only consider one side of the argument, and dismiss the other. And by the way, trying looking at it productivly instead of trying to pick at whats being said, I fail to see how you saying zerkers are overpowered fits in with this thread at all?

Are you complaining about zerkers being overpowered, or are you talking about righteous fury being overpowered? 30+ strength on a zerker can only be acheived one way.

Say it like this and it doesn't sound so menacing does it - Having a zerker with 21 strength, no spells and a halberd coming at you isn't overpowered?? No.

Common mistake being made on the forum recently, specially when discussing berserkers.

You tell me which is more overpowered without any outside help.

Mage or Zerker. Everyone with half a brain cell knows the answer to that one.

If you can't think of anything decent to add to the discussion (about mages if you didn't notice) then why bother posting at all. If you think berserkers are overpowered without the use of any other class for spells, with a normal weapon like a halberd (as not everyone can get bot) then you can raise it in another thread.

Don't make an assumption that I dont have anything to add to mage discussion. I've posted suggestions on this thread MANY times. In that case, im sorry, being able to spell up a zerker to 30+ str. is overpowered in my opinion. Sorry for the confusion.

Sorry if you got confused by my post, but I never mentioned anything to do with your contributions to the mage discussion. I simply stated that you missed the point to the thread and brought up an argument that is totally unrelated. I stated mages would be overpowered should they get those spells and you mentioned that zerkers are overpowered.

I fail to see the link i'm afraid, especially considering it's not the berserker that is overpowered but a spell useable by a completely different class.......oh well.

Castable on mages only. Not affecting Clerics in any way, shape, or form.

Well, with the extra intelligence, mages could do what... 100 damage?

100*5 = 500, able to almost always round anything but a zerker.

I'd say, if it took away from other stats (dexterity and ac), because when you're... umm.. occupied totally with your magic, you're not going to concentrate on defending and dodging.

Actually, the damage would be no where near 100.

A clannie of mine has an arch mage and a Cats Eye Amulet; 1 point intel makes a difference of 2 damage. So, with +2 intel, you will only do 4 more damage per attack. 4*5=20, not much difference.
