To further improve the balance of classes in Nightmist, I'd like everyone who visits this forum to post, sensibly, what changes they believe should be made to mages. How are they overpowered? How are they underpowered?

I'd like information in great detail, and I'd also like to know how you think they weigh up against the other classes. Which other classes are more powerful? Why?

I need to know how I should change the class to improve it further. To make it easier, I'm asking everyone who has played or played againsit a mage to post their opinions.

To structure this thread better, I would like people to use bullet points to state each piece of information clearly.

If you agree or disagree with another person, simply state that you disagree with [this statement] because ____

If you don't stick to this I will delete your posts, regardless of their contents, because I need to be able to read the information easily, and it makes it much easier when I can see clearly which suggestions are favoured by the majority.

First: He was only quoting Pandi from the old forum that is all, he was not trying to say he would do somethign he could not.

Second:
  • They suck
  • They are slow to level
  • There is almost no point to leveling them because they are not able to do much anyway since everyone has good wisdom or cannot kill bosses etc because they suck (depends on your pking wants I know that I do not support it but still in Nightmist it is a fact of life I have come to accept but hate)
Thanks for listening to my rant on mages.

i have had two or three mages in the time i have been playing nightmist and i believe the best word to describe them is...why?

mages and druids should be about equal spellcasters though a mage should have more spells they should both do about the same damage. though every time i hear about damage the druids always seem to do more which doesnt make sense because of their fighting prowess. mages need something but im not sure if i can put my finger on it...
I am very sorry, if not for something I did, then it is for something I will do.

They need a spell that can increase Int. and Dex. temporaily. Can't be cast on others. And they need a better spell every five lvls. it would be hard to train a lvl 14 mage from shock. It would be better to go to swamps with torch. And even that is hard for mages. There should be Elemental crap in the game so mages spells do more and less to certain enemys. That would make them better.

Thanks, I agree mages need something to equal them out, my main is a mage but yet I never use him since he well, sucks. I cannot do anything because I do not have the hp to go out and fight even 1 monster some times and I cannot carry healing potions because I need to carry mana.

Flame should effect monsters in the swamps, sounds logical doesn't it, if a torch damages it a flame should to.

*blows dust off this topic*

Ahem, anyways.

We all know that Mages were "balanced" out to deal more damage at a lower (mana) cost. However, I still think mages lack numbers when it comes to spells. Clerics have so many more spells than mages...and that just doesn't sit right with me.

As it stands, I think Protect and Vortex Gate (and Invisibility to an extent) are the only spells unique to this class.

I know quite a few spells have been suggested on this forum (some better than others) with some 'interesting' effects...but can we expect any new spells in the future?

Ok, Mages were balanced, but heres what they still, in my opinion, need:
  • More use for Vortex Gate
  • New attack spell at arch
  • Intelligence affecting spell damage more
  • Possibly a temporary stat-increasing spell (Intel and Wisdom makes sense, not Intel and Dex)
Mages should not have this:
  • Flame doing more damage in swamps (they dont atm)
  • New Attack Spell every 5 levels
  • Higher stamina
Not having these things makes Mages different... They do not level quickly, level 10-15 is extremely difficult, you can't train them (in most cases) in the general area for training (swamps) from level 15-20, but in the long run, they are very useful. Invisibility greatly helps pking/sneaking around, Vortex Gate provides an easy way out of Desert. I do agree, however, that Mage's should have a wider variety of spells. Not necessarily attack spells, but ones similiar to Protect. I have a few in the back of my head, I'll try to write up a good description for them. Also, I would like to see intelligence affect damage more-- I hear that a difference of 1 intel doesnt affect damage much... Make Cats Eye Amulet worth the 1 mil. That's all for now.

It should be possible to get devastate!
That would be better.

If Devastate ever gets added, it will most likely be given to one player. And that will be it.

If they make it possible to get this every 24 hours, we will have this handful of Mages that will simply control all of Nightmist...

...Which is a bad thing despite how interesting that sounds.
