is it actually worth having a mage? if so, why?

basically the good things about a mage for once, as everyone is aware of their faults

Their spell, Protect, is a good way of spotting for Death Traps if you send the mage ahead of your main party, although it doesn't always work.

They are good for ambush attacks, mapping certain areas but i personally enjoyed the challenge of training one to arch from lvl 1.

Are they worth all the hard work and mana costs? i'd say maybe not compared to other classes but they are still good.

They're a "unique" experience to train. Definatley different than training other classes.

However, training a mage is long and frustrating and...long. If you're not a patient person, a mage isn't for you.

As for good points in a mage...AoP (Aura of Protection) is a very nice spell to have (even though it can only be cast on yourself). Invisibility is nice as well...

...But I don't find Protect very useful. I find death traps still snag me even while I have it cast.

Mages are good, I own a lvl 26 mage. x 19 20 18 19 x 49mil exp. I only use it to take my crits to and from ss. I am now training a mage from 17 to train, doing pretty good at it too. I hope with in a week or less I would have it at lvl 26.

I am only training a mage for the stamina. Once I get it to master I wont borther training it anymore.

Point is mages are only good at invising and if you know where all the vortex gates are ( like I do) then mages are worth having because you can use to gate to telaport to any pub in the game saving the trouble of moving long distances.
