use the system restore disk
if it still happens and you can't think why, take it back, it might be faulty

If your computer didn't start acting up until after you went online the first time, chances are that you have a version of Win XP before the servicepack1, in which case your problem could be caused by a worm like sasser or even blaster.

Both of those worms use a security hole in Win XP to get on your computer without the need for you to download anything, all it takes is around 3 seconds of being online.

Does it have a countdown before shutting down? If so, as soon as you see that countdown, go to your start menu > run and type in shutdown -a which should stop your computer from rebooting. Immediately after that download all applicable windows updates. If it is indeed Blaster or Sasser causing your problems, you can download removal tools for both at www.symantec.com.

If that doesn't work either, following JLH's suggestion is your best bet.

Kick the cpu 3 times on the left, 2 times on the right side and throw it out of the window.

Works everytime :P

crucial to this solution tho is to open the window (doesn't matter if it's a slide window or something else) before! you throw the pc out of it!

solution has been tested before and works best if you throw the pc from first or even better second floor.

if you let it sit there and it shut down then you should go to the power supply application in the setting folder and set it up to your desire. if it shuts down while you are doing things on it then it could be a virus like the worm lady_maha talked about. and if it is not the virus then check to see how many programs or processes are running and if the cpu usage is at 100% constantly then you need to lose some of those programs that you never use... if the cpu usage is still at 100% then upgrade your RAM and then it will decrease the cpu usage.. but if it is none of that then do what jlh said, still no success then i advised you to take it back to the site you got it from, and if they don't take it back pull out a tire iron from your trunk and hit the manager in the knee caps.. then promblem solve
