Hey everyone! I'm just curious to know what game introduced you to the RPG genre. Other than a couple of silly BBC Micro text adventure games, the first game I played that was RPG was "Shining: The Holy Ark"... brings back memories, and the boss music (shown in the video) is nothing short of fantastic:

POST SCRIPTUM: It might be a coincidence, but there's a boss early on in the game remarkably similar to the Time Knight, named the Time Warrior. It emerges out of a giant clock and attacks you with lightning spells (okay, not too similar!) and a pretty powerful sword.

My very first RPG was Super Mario RPG The Legend of The Seven Stars on the SNES. I rented it at Blockbuster when I was very young and had no idea it was an RPG game. I just assumed it was a regular Mario game as I had no idea what RPG stood for. I fell in love with the game though. It's one of the few games I'd rate 10 out of 10.

After I got a little older I visited my uncle's house and saw my cousin playing a then little known game by the name of Final Fantasy 7 on the Playstation. I just sat down and watched as he played and was amazed by the storytelling and graphics in the game. He was on disc 2 and he let me borrow disc 1 to play at home, and that got me hooked on RPGs. Nothing was better than playing FF7 for the very first time as a kid in the 90s.

All this nostalgic talk is making me want to go bust out my SNES and play SMRPG again.

best RPG evar: Legend of Dragoon...best storyline of any game i have ever played. Although voiceovers during cutscenes ruined the jrpg tag for me lolz, but yes by far one of the most interesting and engaging storylines and gameplay.
