Come one, come all. The time has come to flex your creative side and show us all what your quill's made of!

Some of you already know, some of you don't; But, things have been under organisation, albeit slow (go me), to get a Nightmist Poetry contest off the ground. Preperations are almost complete, and it's almost time for y'all to get writing!

How about I outline a few (sorry, have to do this bit..) rules:

One poem, per person, per contest (may change, depending how popular this proves).
Keep to the contest topic (unless otherwise stated).
Keep language within reason. Words normally deemed unusable are allowed, providing they're not directed at any particular person, or group of people.
Fresh writes perfered, but obviously not nessessary.
MUST BE ALL YOUR OWN WORK (don't think I can stress this enough).
Judges decision is final.
We reserve the right to remove anything we feel is not suited for the contest.
Winning poem will be announced as far through the community as we can reach, and suitable prize given.
Other poems deemed worthy, will get recognition, and maybe a small prize.
Obviously prizes may vary from contest to contest, depending on the topic/donations from players/how we're feeling :)
If you don't like it, don't join in  Otherwise, absolutely everyone is welcome.
Please, nothing too long, remember we have to read every poem submitted..

Judges to be announced at a later date, along with where and how it'll be held B)

And remember "The pen is mightier than the sword."

For further information, contact me in game; Bahthius.

Sorry if it says in there, but I am illiterate.

Does this need to be some kind of rhyming poem or can it simply be something we wrote--since basically anything that isn't an essay or a novel can be called a poem, can't it?

Edit- I also have a suggestion- Keep the writers of the poem secret somehow. Like have people memo the poems or give them in some form and you post them--some how keeping track of who sent what.
Not that I don't think you could find judges who are un-bias or want friends to win, but in so doing, the people try not to favor their friends writing, which probably makes them try to not pick it---just so hard to be unbias as a judge imo.

Not all peoms rhyme. (ex: A song is like a poem, but sung with a musical background if you break it down.)

Whether it's rhyming or not will be stated along with the rest of the information, as it'll change from time to time.

If the judges appear to be bias even in the slightest, I'll get rid of them. But so far, I'd be very very suprised if any of them were.

The War I Barely Survived

The night was cold,

the hills were frozen,

the warriors came to a halt,

when they figured out they had to sacrifice their life,

for a small pride if they survived,

if they survived,

when it started it never ended,

and I'm at the end of my life,

I should know I barely survived.

I posted this one on poetry.com and got one of those letters in the mail that it was a good poem that was considered to get a award.

Shame one of the Mods doesn't see this as a viable thread for the discussion forum. Would love to put my case across to the Mod who moved it, if they'd be willing to PM me at all?

Do we post here, or are you gonna set up something official? Or something along Gaddy's suggestion?

As I said, more will be announced later (Sunday the 5th, to be exact).

But there is something already set up, URL given on Sunday, along with all other information needed.

This was just a heads up, to let people know it's coming.

Why oh why must we all die?
By: Lifeless Void

Why I ask of you to die, when all you know is how to cry,
I can't tell but you know well, we all are in a living hell

We cry, we weep, we sleep, we creep.
Were high, we sigh, we cant know why.

Is all of this meant for us?
Do we have to put up such a fuss?

I wish it wasn't but if it has to be,
Just accept the fate when it calls,
and you'll feel better when you bawl.

Sorry I didn't wanna put it on other site
How the hell would I know?

[A recent discovery in Mexico. It is held to possess all the charms
of tobacco, and at the same time to be not only innocuous, but actually
to stimulate both digestion and appetite.]

Flower of the West, with the soft, sweet, name,
Marihuma,
Follow, oh, follow thy new-won fame,
Marihuma;
Follow it out from the thankless West
(Nasty uncivilised part at best).
Come! We would know thee, know thee and test,
Marihuma.

Here is one I have loved full well,
Marihuma,
Sister of thine, with a sister-spell,
Marihuma,
Mild as the sap of the Balsam-Tree,
Sweet as the odours of Engedi,
Rose of a thornless Briar, she,
Marihuma.

Ah, but she worketh this evil thing,
Marihuma,
Save we be chary of worshipping,
Marihuma:
Surely she sendeth a poisoned dart,
Scarping the coats of the--tender part,--
Giving us Staggers, and Smoker's Heart,
Marihuma.

Thou, 'tis said, hast a purer charm,
Marihuma,
Milder and sweeter, and free from harm,
Marihuma;
Thee we may honour from morn till night,
Worship, and win of the grateful rite
Aid to digestion and appetite,
Marihuma!

What is the truth of the tale one hears,
Marihuma?
Art thou the thing we have sought for years,
Marihuma?
Come, for thy presence alone can show
(Man had discovered it years ago,
Anywhere else than in Mexico),
Marihuma.

Come, then, come to a kinder land,
Marihuma;
Thou shalt be met by a big brass band,
Marihuma;
Come to the trumpet, come to the drum,
Come to the toot of the flute: ah, come,
Come to the Pipe of your own DUM-DUM,
Marihuma!
The Greater the Difficulty, the More the Glory in Surmounting it. -Epicurus

This wasn't written by Me, it was written by a U.S. Marine but, 'tis the season.

'TWAS THE NIGHT BEFORE CHRISTMAS,
HE LIVED ALL ALONE,
IN A ONE BEDROOM HOUSE MADE OF
PLASTER AND STONE.

I HAD COME DOWN THE CHIMNEY
WITH PRESENTS TO GIVE,
AND TO SEE JUST WHO
IN THIS HOME DID LIVE.

I LOOKED ALL ABOUT,
A STRANGE SIGHT I DID SEE,
NO TINSEL, NO PRESENTS,
NOT EVEN A TREE.

NO STOCKING BY MANTLE,
JUST BOOTS FILLED WITH SAND,
ON THE WALL HUNG PICTURES
OF FAR DISTANT LANDS.

WITH MEDALS AND BADGES,
AWARDS OF ALL KINDS,
A SOBER THOUGHT
CAME THROUGH MY MIND.

FOR THIS HOUSE WAS DIFFERENT,
IT WAS DARK AND DREARY,
I FOUND THE HOME OF A SOLDIER,
ONCE I COULD SEE CLEARLY.

THE SOLDIER LAY SLEEPING,
SILENT, ALONE,
CURLED UP ON THE FLOOR
IN THIS ONE BEDROOM HOME.

THE FACE WAS SO GENTLE,
THE ROOM IN SUCH DISORDER,
NOT HOW I PICTURED
A UNITED STATES SOLDIER.

WAS THIS THE HERO
OF WHOM I'D JUST READ?
CURLED UP ON A PONCHO,
THE FLOOR FOR A BED?

I REALIZED THE FAMILIES
THAT I SAW THIS NIGHT,
OWED THEIR LIVES TO THESE SOLDIERS
WHO WERE WILLING TO FIGHT.

SOON ROUND THE WORLD,
THE CHILDREN WOULD PLAY,
AND GROWNUPS WOULD CELEBRATE
A BRIGHT CHRISTMAS DAY.

THEY ALL ENJOYED FREEDOM
EACH MONTH OF THE YEAR,
BECAUSE OF THE SOLDIERS,
LIKE THE ONE LYING HERE.

I COULDN'T HELP WONDER
HOW MANY LAY ALONE,
ON A COLD CHRISTMAS EVE
IN A LAND FAR FROM HOME.

THE VERY THOUGHT
BROUGHT A TEAR TO MY EYE,
I DROPPED TO MY KNEES
AND STARTED TO CRY.

THE SOLDIER AWAKENED
AND I HEARD A ROUGH VOICE,
"SANTA DON'T CRY,
THIS LIFE IS MY CHOICE;

I FIGHT FOR FREEDOM,
I DON'T ASK FOR MORE,
MY LIFE IS MY GOD,
MY COUNTRY, MY CORPS."

THE SOLDIER ROLLED OVER
AND DRIFTED TO SLEEP,
I COULDN'T CONTROL IT,
I CONTINUED TO WEEP.

I KEPT WATCH FOR HOURS,
SO SILENT AND STILL
AND WE BOTH SHIVERED
FROM THE COLD NIGHT'S CHILL.

I DIDN! 'T WANT TO LEAVE
ON THAT COLD, DARK, NIGHT,
THIS GUARDIAN OF HONOR
SO WILLING TO FIGHT.

THEN THE SOLDIER ROLLED OVER,
WITH A VOICE SOFT AND PURE,
WHISPERED, "CARRY ON SANTA,
IT'S CHRISTMAS DAY, ALL IS SECURE."

ONE LOOK AT MY WATCH,
AND I KNEW HE WAS RIGHT.
"MERRY CHRISTMAS MY FRIEND,
AND TO ALL A GOOD NIGHT."
Love is knowing you'd be taking a risk, and jumping in with both feet.

There once was an admin called Simon
Who’s life revolved around annoying poor Jurian
They fell out over a helper
Front paged by a finger
A sad loss to every Nightmistian

"Tears"

On the burning edge
of the crimson sky
Where flowers of evil
throw their shadows on the wings of angels
My soul lingers lost
in the darkness of my thoughts.

I would cry forever
but i ran out of tears
The sad thoughts remain
The tears that washed away my hope
make me drown in sorrow
because you will not be there tomorrow.

I rest my head
alone to sleep
I wish you could kiss me goodnight
Now I linger for eternal dreaming
but with my tears
i lost my dreams
and the hope for a better day.

i hope its ok that some combinations of words are not fully mine but sometimes i hear things like "eternal dreaming" and think that would be good for a poem.
Even in death my hate will go on
