New Class O.o

Anyway.
Artificers are like the engineers of the world. They dabble in machinery, and explosives, and various other things. They don't really use hand-to-hand melee weapons very much.
So, basically they are like other classes in the way they train and level up. I'd probably start them off with the Oak Staff like everyone else for the first couple of levels. The main difference would be the Artificer's Guild (where they level up).
In the Guild, you'd have a Crafter NPC (like the JLH Crafter guy in Boar's Tusk). You could give him some stuff like a Tarma Potion and a Fire Bands and a Mana Crystal, and he gives you back a Fire Potion. Which can only be held by Artificers, and when thrown at someone/something, causes them like 150 damage. It would also have a % chance of causing some collateral damage to anyone else on the square.
The Crafter can also make you weapons, maybe at level 10 you can give them an Iron Staff and 3 Fire Potions, and they make you a Pistol (works like a bow, can Dual Shot at lvl 15 etc...maybe not Flaming Arrow though lol).
If I really thought this should be put in game, I'd make a whole list of what things you get at what level, and what you do to get them, and so on and so forth. But yeah.
Although, it would be interesting to have the first truly ranged class in the game (/throw north Fire Potion). Heh, and once you got to like lvl 28, you could have a "/set fuse length x" command. But then all the bad kids would just sit one south of sgh and cause trouble

PS. Could work ok as a 1-alt class maybe?
it's plausible that the SOB hasn't spawned

My input:
For the 1-alt deal, you could make it like the pacifist. Instead of a deity to protect it, it could be a mana shield which halves damage. The cost could be that they could not use weapons, and only can use the tools they create to attack. This could make them an interesting class.
For example, rather than run up to a player and *click**click*, you could set a trap in the square to either kill them outright, or simply screw them up pretty badly (like assassinate, or smite). But if you wanted them to use weapons, they could "create" a weapon at level 1, just like Druids choose a morph. From then on, thier abilities would be dependant on that weapon. Cross-Bows could be a choice perhaps, and upgraded at higher levels.
For example:
Crossbow -> Twin Shot Crossbow -> Repeater Crossbow -> Flame Thrower XD(BURN EVERYTHANG!!!)
...Anyways, I like the idea. Just add one more thing:
Greek Fire- Burns everyone in square for nice damage. Yes, even your allies. And while were at it, it burns you too! Makes it a bit more fair (Reminds me of Merton...without Flame Shield).
Thats all I have to say. Except:
Supported
Edit: Fixed a few errors and expanded on weapon idea.

Maybe this should be in a suggestion for nm2, sounds like a cool idea and goes along with a previous idea of "skills" (tailoring etc)...maybe it could work out that a form of Engineering was a trainable skill.

In what sense? There's not really anything that's much more complicated than what we already have. Apart from the class-restricted items. Obviously you'd have to disallow /give Raylen fire potion (cuz Raylen is a pally), not sure how simple that is.Sorry, doesn't sound all that cool though. Also seems like it'd be pretty complicated.
Heh and I envisaged maybe using these things for training purposes, but since /throw orc fire potion doesn't use any stam...could be interesting lol.
