Simple question... Why can't Elves be paladins? Their stats would not make them superior to other paladin races (Human and Halfling currently).

Elf- 18 xx 19 18 20 21
Human- 19 xx 19 19 19 19
Halfling- 18 xx 21 18 18 19

Benefits of Elf- Heals for more than any other race
Benefits of Human- Heals for more than Halflings, Higher HP, Hits for more than Elves and Halflings
Benefits of Halflings- Lands hits/dodges hits the best

I'm not sure how much sense an Elf Paladin makes from a role-play sense. I can see the argument that Elves can be almost every Class, which I guess would come into play. If that is the case, however... Why can't Half-Elves at least be Paladins?

A half-elf would be part Human, part Elf. A Half-Elf can be a Cleric and a fighter...Hell, it can even be a Berserker. I don't think it makes too much sense to allow a part-elf to be a Berserker and not a Paladin.

What do you think? Should Elves or Half-Elves be allowed to be Paladins?

Role-play reasons I am still attempting to acquire or work out myself, but the reason why Elves cannot be Paladins, from the game's point of view, is that they will have far too much mana by the time they reach level 30, due to their high Wisdom.

I don't see a problem with either of them being Paladins. Supported.

EDIT: To Crane, I don't see why that would terribly unbalance them. They would have the same HP as halfling but be hit more. I see this as a fair trade-off for higher MP.

EDIT: Mike's idea would also work. ^^

I see why the mana aspect holds it back, but his point does make sense as far as i can see

I believe JLH could make it that having 20 base wisdom could give you %chance of gaining a 10 or 11 mana. That way MP won't be too much higher, it will be a random set of gains of either 10 or 11.

Paladins have too much mana and too little hitpoints, whichever class you choose. The weakest of paladins should have more hp than the toughest of rangers/thieves, and should have nowhere near as much mana as dr00ds and clerics

That is true.. Why do paladins have exact same HP gains as a cleric?

Because the stats make sense with Elven Paladins... Dwarf Paladins don't...

Also there's a roleplay reason... If you read a book do you think there would be Dwarf Paladins, Halfling Berserkers, and Gnome Rangers? No... because it would be stupid...

In short, use your common sense.

Don't make fun of dwarf paladins. They can make for some of the most devout followers of any faith. Dwarves (when they answer the "call" to be a paladin) give up their family ties in order to pursue righteousness and the greater good. Being able to break with tradition (especially one so rigid and essenetial to dwarven society) is only a glimpse at the kind of devotion a dwarf paladin must have.

And just as dwarves can make fierce paladins, so can halflings make fearsome berserkers. Just because of they suffer from a short stature doesn't mean that they can be no less fierce than, say, a half-orc. Though rare, halflings can become ruthless killing machines just as any other race.

I won't even bother arguing about gnome rangers as I've RP'ed with a few. They are not to be taken lightly.

But remember, Nightmist is not an roleplaying game. Logic (not matter how deeply routed in accepted fantasy motifs) makes very little impact.

Err.. Well.. I can't think of anything to counter that with. ^_^

Now that a look into this more, I don't see why any class can't be any race unless there is some sort of valid reason...

But it is Nightmist so I don't expect to see anything changed anytime soon... or ever...

Gnome's can't be fighters, Elves can. I don't really understand why a Gnome couldn't be a fighter, though..

I think thats the whole point... a paladin is supposed to be a 'human'.... I'm assuming a halfling is some sort of half-human creature... (and half whatever else that makes him so fast.... lol). Perhaps, maybe extending the possible races for Palli's to include maybe the Half-Elf (seeing as its also half human).

Halflings can be Paladins and they're 4 foot on average (according to LOTR).

So Gnomes don't have the excuse of being too small.

If we based our game on LOTR, what a sad sad realm it would be.

I still like my suggestion, though.
