Back Story:

Looming over the world we all inhabit, a force of immesurable evil and power watches us, marveling at the petty conflicts brough about by our existance, and by how frail even the most powerful warriors are. In ages past this dark being known only as Archmilos the Defiler had blanketed this land with his malice and comtempt for life, only with the combined powers of the Defenders of the Faith had this evil onslaught been stopped in it's tracks. The Paladins, holy warriors of considerable might and the Clerics, the most powerful healers in the lands had combined their orders in a last ditch effort to prevent this enemy of all the free races from snuffing out life in it's entirety. Calling upon the power or their deity, and focusing the healing light of both the Paladin and Cleric, Archimilos was stuck down and nearly destroyed. With the last of the Dark Titan's strength he created a rip in time itself and escaped before he could be finished.

Now, after over a thousand years, Archmilos has returned once more, to exact his revenge upon the Orders of the Paladin and Cleric, and the world that harbors his wouldbe destroyers. Upon his return he has come to find that these factions are no longer united, and that infighting and petty bickering has led to members of all different disciplines have joined forces in oposition of eachother. While some of these socalled "Clans" have considerable strength, their unwillingness to work together and and insistance upon fighting incessantly left the Dark God with no doubts that his bolstered force of Minions would wash over this world destroying everything from the distant land of Tirantek to the mighty gates of Nightmist.

It was Archmilos's decision to make the floating city of Windia his base of operations, so unbeknownst to anyone other than his most trusted servants, Archmilos sent spies into the city of Windia infiltrating all it's defenses, and withing two hours of the original incursion, all the guards of windia had been slaughtered and the town set ablaze. All the citizens of the town were slaughtered as the Dark God unleashed his worst and most powerful weapon, his Demonic General and leader of his Armies, Illirion the Doombringer, wielding his giant sword, The Blooddrinker, with a single swing of his blade, all the citizens were rend asunder.

A single survivor, a wise and very old Mage known only as Limit escaped from the carnage of the ruined city of Windia and made haste to Nightmist where he warned all within earshot of the impending doom that has befallen their wartorn world.

Who shall arise to lead the forces of light against this threat to all the mortal races of our world? Are we to be doomed by our own selfish persuits of power? Is it possible for the old hatreds to be put aside for the good of all? That is what we shall soon find out!

Stonesour arose from his seat inside Boar's Tusk Inn when he heard the hustle of feed outside scattering up viper street towards the Northern Gatehouse of Nightmist.

Stonesour having only recently returned from an expedition into the deepest parts of the Harabec Dungeon where in a valiant effort he along with his might Alliance of Housewives had laid waste to the Blue Dragon that stood guard at the end. Though still injured, the Paladin wanted to know what news or event could have so much of the citizenry in uproar. He quickly stood and placed his cup on the table, taking his Sentinel Shield and Seraphic Staff in hand, summoned a spell of Holy Speed and disapeared into the cool night air of Viper Street.

In no time he was standing amongst the huge crowd that had formed at the Northern Gatehouse where a very old Gnome in robes of everchanging color that almost appeared to have a Storm Raging withing them was shouting loudly.

"A DEMONIC ARMY HAS LAID WASTE TO THE CITY OF WINDIA AND CLAIMED IT FOR THEIR OWN!"

Unknown Halfling shouts, "What is this nonsense you speak of? There have been no demonic presences of the magnitude you speak of for thousands of years you old fool!"

Limit quickly replied, "I heard a name being chanted amongst his forces as i fled the town, Archmilos..."

People continued chanting jeers and calling for proof, but Stonesour fell silent and was stuck with great sorrow upon hearing this name. This was not the first time he had heard this name. Stonesour, unknown to the rest of the population inhabiting this world, was one of the last remaining members of a bloodline of Ancient Paladins that Served in the Defenders of the Faith in the previous war against Archmilos and his demonic forces. Along with his paladin heritage he was charged with the task of protecting the ancient text chronicalling the Previous war with this enemy in the unfortunate chance that he returned later.

Stonesour walked up to stand next to the old Mage and in one deft motion drew his Staff from his side slammed it into the ground causing a Thunderclap that silenced the crowd and drew all their attention upon the young paladin.

"PEOPLE, HEAR ME NOW, THIS GNOME SPEAKS THE TRUTH!"

The crowd remained in silence as the Stonesour continued,
"Archimilos the Defiler, destroyer of worlds, enemy of all life has returned..."

Questioning and concerned words began to eminate from the crowd,
"Returned?"
"Why has he come?"

Stonesour put his hands up and called for silence.

I will explain all that I know of this foe, I wish to call a council of all the leaders of the Clans, we must speak, time is of the essence.

At this request many of the rival leaders began shouting their refusals and as insults began to fly, the silence of the crowd had deteriorated into near violence.

Imbueing himself with the Strength of Champions, the young paladin once again brough his might staff crashing to the ground, nearly splitting the earth beneath the mob. The result was many turning ahead in silence once more to see a fury and power glowing in the eyes of this warrior of light, the likes of which they had never seen before.

Calming his fury and allowing the strength of the spell to leave his body, he calmly yet forcefully spoke once more,

"This peril belongs to all the beings of this world, regardless of your faction, clan or wealth. If you cannot see this then you doom the existance of all for the sake of your hatred you fools..."

With these final words the paladin slowly walked past the crowd and headed towards his families vault to withdraw the text detailing the last time this world's existance was placed in peril by Dark God, Archmilos.
Hopefully there would be something among this ancient text that could save his people once more from the hands of the Defiler.
