IC:
Anyone following Aladar's journey would have immediately dismissed him for a poor beggar, His robe was dirty, and slightly torn, and he had no visible weapons, not even a staff. His face was shrouded in a cowl, and his shoulders slumped slightly forwards, as if he were sniffing the road he followed. As he came within sight of the city he raised his head and brought his shoulders up to their full height.
"My god!"
Aladar stopped to survey the wreckage of what he could only assume, by its location, was previously the small village of Gromburg. How anyone could survive this type of carnage was beyond him, but he had sensed two faint sources of life slowly gaining strength. As he entered the limits of the village he had to fight a massive feeling of revulsion at the smell of burnt human flesh, and feces. The destruction was almost complete. Of the bodies that Aladar could see, only a fraction of them had some sort of insignia embroidered on their under armor, and crested on their shields and helmets. The crest of a golden eagle perched on a golden lion, the crest of King Elwin if he wasn't mistaken.
"Such destruction is a waste."
Just then Aladar heard a crash nearby, and an angry voice following closely behind. Aladar whirled towards the sound and dropped the cowl on his robe.
"Perhaps those life signs are stronger than I had originally thought"
As he strode towards the sounds Aladar's shoulder length hair whipped in the wind. Perhaps the owners of those life signs had found each other, and not found each other so deserving of their lives. Aladar quickened his pace, and stepped into a clearing with a small campfire in it, immediately concealing himself with a small mutter under his breath. There he stood and watched the ensuing confrontation.
OOC: I havent really described my characters features very well, because I dont have the ability to do it from a non-character point of view. So I will put his features here in OOC and let someone else describe them. It seems more realistic to me that way anyhow. He is about 5'9" Has very weathered skin, as if he had seen twice as many adventures as his age would suggest, He looks to be about mid 20's, His eyes are a VERY striking green, they almost glow with green. His hair is shoulder length, and very scruffy, though he has a closely cropped goatee. His teeth are straight, and his smile is dazzling. He has slight build, but he is by no means SKINNY, he is lean. His cheekbones are slightly elevated, and his chin is strong and pronounced. He has an undefined nose, it does not lend itself much attention. Anywho, thats as best As I can describe him so... Do your best deval *I would prefer you do it, because I have confidence in your descriptive abilities*. I drew back my characters cowl there for easy description.
Thanks, let me know how I did.

“Did I disturb you? Sorry, I just needed to let off some steam”, comes a deep, rough voice of the encroaching figure.
Bract is a stout, middle-aged human male. He stands only about 5’ 4” in height, but is heavily muscled, weighing approximately 220 lbs. On his feet are tall, plate reinforced, black leather boots, matching his black leather breeches, also plate reinforced. A thick, short-sleeved, cotton shirt (commonly worn under chain armor) covers his upper body; dirty and heavily worn. Projecting over his right should is the hilt of a sword, cattycorner, dipping down from behind his left hip is an identical hilt; the two weapons secured to his torso, crossing his back. His thick, black hair grows unkempt around his face, obscuring many of his features.
As he enters the radius of the firelight, various scars on his uncommonly hairy arms and a few on his muscled, rigid face convey the likelihood that he is a seasoned warrior. The hard look in his deep-set, hazel eyes similarly imply such.
“Traveling to Karfendale?” he asks in a flat tone.

Sizing up the newcomer, Ulantees lowers his blade from in front of his body, allowing it to cross infront of his legs. With an air of suspicion and a sneer he questions him accusingly.
"Who are you? What name do you go by, and how do you know my destination? Surely you are no resident of Gromburg, I investigated the ruins, it is a miracle that even I survived the hellfire that ripped it apart."
Ulantees slightly shakes his head as blurred memories of the battle, and the events that followed return to him. The image of his dead wife in his arms, her entrails spilling from her body upon the cobbled road. His young daughter crying, no, wailing as he stands helpless, something stopping him from going to her. Then the images are gone again, shaken loose by the realisation that another being still lurks in the darkness. Lifting his blade infront of him again, the tip of the blade directed at Bract, he calls over his shoulder
"Why don't you introduce whoever, or whatever it is that resides in the darkness over there? I'm no fool, I'm aware that there is more than just yourself here." Twisting his head to the direction from where the rustling of leaves came, "Show yourself, or die the death of a coward"

Aladar stepped from the shadows and mumbled something obscure under his breath, suddenly blending out of his surroundings as if they had suddenly painted him there.
"My name is Aladar, travelling.... Well.... travelling, And your name would be?"
Aladar passed his eyes across the mans fighting stance, and the massive sword he held at ready, passing his eyes over the man on the horse too. Suddenly he realized he could sense lifeforce draining from this one in the fighting stance. He had a bad wound, not a fatal one, but no doubt painful.
"That wound on the back of your head, Would you let me treat it? I am sure it is causing you great pain"
With that Aladar spread his hands out in front of him faced upwards in an unmistakable sign of peace.

The magicians peaceful approach had thrown Ulantees off gaurd, and on top of that, the extent of his injuries were now known to the other stranger. 'These can only be men of Elwin, yet they do not wear the uniform, nor bear the crest of the swine.'
At the mention of his injuries Ulantees sneers, "I am fine, should I die, then I will die, that is the way of the warrior. I would sooner sleep with wolves than allow a stranger of the night come within an arms length of me, why are you both here? What do either of you have to gain from the ruins of Gromburg?

IC:
"Fair enough, Your wound is not fatal, Im sure you can live with the pain"
With those words aladar began a rapid mumbling underneath his breath, as if he were casting a spell and yet talking to someone at the same time
"Ara hac...... I can..... it will let him see... canra bal tash"
With that his form slowly began to become more squat, and fur stood out on his body. His form continued to become shorter, and his arms turned into the legs of an animal. Yet undistinguishable, but as they continued their transformation it became more apparent. The transformation had finished. Where Aladar had stood a wolf now took his place, it had an almost quizzical look on his face.
"Did you not say you would rather sleep with wolves? Well If you wish, I can turn this man into a wolf too if you find it.... amusing I guess."
He motioned at the man sitting on the horse while he spoke these words, and then continued.
"To answer your questions, the reason that I am here is because Ti'anna informed me through my sense that there were life signs in this city. If it were not for that I would have simply passed by this city, assuming it ravaged comepletely by the forces of elwin. Thats is why I am here, and as you may have guessed I am druid. I can have no ill intentions towards you It is against my nature. If it is any consolation I also used to be A paladin of the Kar'Tal Essentially a warrior like you, I turned to druidism, because someone I loved was killed by a raid from soldiers I can only assume came under elwins command to punish me for turning against him."
As he spoke his form slowly changed back to that of a human. Aladar reached into his robes and pulled out a small pouch of something that smelled strongly of elven medicine and radiated magic.
"Put this on your wound and it will heal, If you dont wish to do that simply smell it and it will aleviate your pain. Do so, or dont, It is your choice, I can say nothing more to gain your trust, and will say nothing more"
With that Aladar turned his back to the man, showing the most supreme sign of peace. Turning your back to a potentially dangerous man was risky, but Aladar had a nagging instinct this man was simply being overly careful, He could also sense inner torment in this man, He had seen untold horrors in the past few days. Best to let him sort himself out without to much pressure.
"You still havent told me your name stranger, Care to give me at least that?" Aladar called over his shoulder as he sparked a fire in the ground in front of him and sat down in front of it. He pulled another pouch from his robe, and began to eat the contents.

“I don’t, didn’t, know your destination, I was only inquiring. Karfendale is the …”, he stops abruptly (speaking and walking) as the realization sinks in that Ulantees was in the battle at Gromburg; a resident, a survivor. His eyes widen slightly for a second as a whirl of thoughts pass through his head:
He recalls the short time he was present at the battle for any recognition of Ulantees’ face; no, he hadn’t seen him.
...recalls the simple residents running in terror as soldiers on horseback ran them down.
...recalls leaving the village, shortly after arriving, and having to ‘persuade’ some young captain that it wasn’t his place to interfere.
He cringes, ever so slightly, as he sees Ulantees eyes soften upon recalling the carnage himself.
It looked as though he was about to speak when Ulantees calls out to another unknown individual in the area.
With a reluctant sigh, he releases the reigns and steps up to the fire, a comfortable speaking distance from Ulantees, as they both look to the druid (Aladar).
“mggrrr...” A hushed grumbling emanates from Bract at the word, spellcaster.Ulantees mumbles "A spellcaster...".
“I’m call Bract, and I’m simply traveling this road to Karfendale”, he speaks in quickly to inform Ulantees.
He squats down close to the fire and listens as the ‘spellcaster’ speaks.
"Humph!" he grunts as the hears the words of the druid,
Well If you wish, I can turn this man into a wolf too if you find it....

Mantis was blinded by a sudden mist and became disoriented.
(this is just like before) He thought.
"Are you sure you want to come with?" the burly man in silver plate asked Mantis. "there may be foul beasts that are too much for you."
"Of course." stated Mantis "I want to prove my worth by slaying an evil creature, and if i fall, I fall in the name of good."
The silver armored paladin smiles, "Alright then, if you wish to help then you can." The silver armored paladin goes about and assigns the other paladins their duties.
Mantis eagerly waits the time of entry and sharpens his sword, Oathen.
"We are going in now, if any one of you doubts yourself, now is the time to say so."
None of the paladins showed any signs of fear or doubt.
"Then we go!" The lead Paladin shouts.
The paladins one by one enter the cave until only two are left, guarding the horses.
As the paladins delve deeper and deeper into the cave they are beset by ever more evil creatures which they slay one after the other without mercy.
Finally, the Paladins suffering from only minor wounds, enter the last chamber of the cave.
"Aah, hello my friends," a sinister voice calls from the unnatural dark and mist, "have you come to meet your ends?"
"You have done too many fell deeds to stay alive creature, show yourself!" The lead paladin calls.
The creature stepped into the light created by the paladins torches and was revealed to be an old man dressed in royal garb.
"My countrymen, I will give you great power if you only swear fealty to me."
"NEVER! We will not be tempted by your evil, sorcerer. You are to be brought to justice for your deeds in these lands."
"All those who refuse me will die." The sorcerer snarled as he began to wave his hands in a deliberate manner and chanted some strange words.
"Stop him he is casting a spell!" the lead paladin shouted, too late. As the paladins begin to rush forward to stop him the sorcerer completes the spell and the Paladins all fall to one knee as their strength leaves them.
"Argh...you will not defeat us with such simplicity." the silver paladin groans as he struggles to his feet, shrugging off the effects of the spell. "Face your judgement fiend!" he cries as he lunges forward with his longsword
As the silver paladin reaches him, the sorcerer, with one unnatural movement dodges to the left and touches the paladin as he passes.
The silver paladin falls to one knee again. "what is this?" he says as he lifts his hands to his face. After a moment, the silver paladin erupts into flames and dies in agony. His burning body slightly illuminating the room.
"Mwa ha ha." the sorcerer laughs as he inspects his handiwork. "Now, who will I ask to join me first?" The sorcerer goes around the room commanding each paladin to swear fealty to him, and slaying each one as they all refused.
Mantis shudders as each one of his friends dies, and he counts off the names saying a prayer for each one.
"Now how about you I wonder?" The sorcer asks as he appreaches Mantis. "I sense some indecision from you." after a moment he croons. "Yes you will do." he say as he thrusts his hand into Mantis' head from his left eye. "You will join me and do my bidding and I will grant you power in return." He removed his hand with a small trickle of blood form the socket. "Now, who do you serve?"
Mantis was compelled to answer "You m'lord, and only you."
"Good, now go and slay those pesky paladins outside and remember nothing of this meeting. I will call on you when I feel the need to."
"Yes my lord." Mantis answered as he made his way out of the cavern.
As he stepped into the sunlight Mantis was greeted by the other two paladins. He looked at them coldly from his blue and now silver eyes.
"Mantis! What happened, where is Marcus and the others?" The two paladins asked in unison. (they were twins and identical in mind and body)
"You will meet their fate." Mantis said coldly and drew Oathen, who, unwillingly slew the twins.
Afterwards Mantis' eyes rolled up into his head and he lost conciousness. Hours later he awoke, not remembering what he had done and thought that his companions had been slain by goblins.
He vowed then to kill every last one he met.
Back in the present...
Mantis stumbled out of the back of the church and ran as fast as he could, and finally reached the Dancing Wolf Inn. Shamed that he was once again unable to do anything.

He then, carefully and quietly, slips out the front door, being very cautious in case someone was lingering behind – unable to refrain from whispering a request for forgiveness for using a weapon in a place of worship.
He quickly maneuvers his way through the dark city streets to the Drunken Maid, disappearing within, and, eventually, giving his report.

"It's just Charon" she corrected with a forced smile, the slight sense of deja vu giving her some comfort "No Miss. And that's... that's fine" she nodded her head slightly as she twisted her wrist and attempted to stretch her hand to gage the strength of the binding "That's good. I... I thank you for your assistance"
A moment passed as she hesitated, wondering whether or not to return to the question she'd left on the wayside, the one she had avoided in favour of the "Is... that alright?". Wondering whether he would let it slide if she chose to pretend she hadn't heard. She looked back to him and it didn't seem quite right to say nothing
"I regret to say it but I am afraid my thoughts are not worth even that much" she answered carefully as she shook her head with that same soft smile "and I would neither wish to bore you, nor feel entirely comfortable speaking my thoughts... anything I do think means little to me, let alone to one other than myself"

Relaxing a little with the knowledge these were not, as far as he knew, men of Elwin, Ulantees lowers his gaurd again, and speaks from one man to another, "Ulantees Steelskin is my name, resident of Gromburg and Commanding Officer of the Gromburg Imperial Forces... or was..." Ulantees began to feel the fool for his agression towards the druid, whos intent was clearly not malicious. Taking the pouch from Aladar he gave it a slight squeeze, and a purple dust puffed from from small gaps in the pouches bindings, it was sweet of smell and the pain in his scalp immediately lessened to a slight itch. Raising an eyebrow he stuffs the pouch into his travelling bag and turns to face the men again.
"It would seem this man and I share a common destination, what draws you to Karfendale? What is your name," casting an eye over the armament of Bract, "warrior?"
Returning to the opposite side of the fire he sits on the charred gnarled tree stump that was improvising for a chair and beckons to Aladar. Come, sit by my fire, as our large companion here has already invited himself to do. If you need, eat, I haven't much, but that which I do have, I am willing to share. Tell me why you are both here, perhaps we can be of service to one another." Placing Moonblood within arms reach next to him he sits and waits to hear the destinations and the intents of these unique travellers.
OOC: Isn't Aladar the name of one of the characters from 'The Land Before Time'? ^^; Roar! Also, Bean, now would be a perfect time for you to describe what Aladar looks like, as the firelight reveals his appearance.

Aladar Turned back to Ulantees, and waved his hand over his fire to put it out. As he Stepped into the soft glow of the fire his features revealed themselves for the first time. His skin was like leather that had been used past its prime, but it still glowed with a youth that seemed almost impossible. His eyes so strikingly green as if to almost glow, swept the campsite once before he seated himself. As he seated himself he pulled open his robe to let him have a greater range of movement, Underneath is caught a glimpse of something glinting in the firelight. Aladar's guild is lean, as if he regularly goes without food, but has once been under some sort of regimen to build muscle. His facial features come into focus as he seats himself near the fire. His cheekbones only slightly elevated, and A strong chin jutting from underneath a carefully kept, and closely cropped goatee. His hair though is another story, it is unruly and you can see many twigs and such sticking from it. It does look clean though.
"I appreciate your hospitality. I am quite tired from my journey; I have been walking for 7 days now without rest." Aladar's shoulders seemed to lift their burden then as he stretched, the sound of bones popping slightly came from his direction.
"It has been some time since I have had companionship along this road. Tell me..." Aladar spoke softer as he said these words "were you... I mean... Did you see what happened here?" Aladar could see the sorrow dancing in Ulantees' eyes, it spoke many things.
"I am also traveling to Karfendale, Ti'Anna Is urging me in that direction for what reason I know not." Aladar's eyes clouded as he mentioned his reasons behind his journey, and he began mumbling to himself almost.
"Why are you..... Doesn't make sense..... you.... Demon?"
Shaking himself out of his reverie he glances startled at his two companions "Sorry, I sometimes get lost like that..." As he glances at Ulantees' eyes he quickly adds "Not in battle though!"
"Well, that is pretty much my story, Not much of one I must admit, but its what I have" With that Aladar seems to settle into a watchful sort of trance, still able to hear what goes on around him. His mumbling returns...
Edit: Awesome sauce.... fun fun! Spelling errors, sorry.

Steven gave a quick snarl to Trekkie as he turned back around.
"...I-I'm guessing we're all heading back to the Dancing Wolf?" he said as he pointed to an unmarked door; no doubt the back entrance to the building."
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Alex smiled softly as he got up to his feet.
"Well...Charon, no miss or Lady, simple and just Charon, if ever you need to borrow an ear, mine are always happy to give a hear."
Gently, Alex extended a hand and gave her a re-assuring touch to the shoulder.
"Oh, visitors! Come in, come in," he said happily as he approached the obvious Paladin and dwarven warrior.
"Will two be needing rooms? Perhaps a good meal? Laurent is the best cook you'll ever dine from in a 5 mile radius!" he said proudly as he pointed to the back.
"Oh...but one thing, would you two mind setting those weapons at the front? Not that I don't trust your ability to wield them...it's just...I'd prefer those weapons at the front, in your rooms or outside."
((Okay, I think that's all I need to do. Is there anybody else I need to address IC? If so, please tell me. It's been hard keeping track of just who is who and where is who and where is where. ^^;; ))

"As Commander I was fought in the slaughter that took place, we fought as best we could, but they were... ferral. Ferral is the only word that could describe it, almost as if they weren't men, yet their shared the same appearance as any of us..."
Ulantees reaches into his travel bag and removes the pouch Aladar had given him earler, and tentatively applied some of the powder to the gash in his head.
"There was nothing we could do, they came screaming out of the twilight, we could only organise the most minimal defences before the siege weapons were upon us, raining flaming boulders over the entire city. We had managed to get most of the civillians into the keep, but of course in the panic some did not make it... I would suggest they were the lucky ones, for those in the keep soon perished as Elwins men penetrated our defences and set it ablaze..."
Ulantees attempts to clear his throat, gagging at the memory of the women and children screaming in agony, clawing at their own skin as the flames devoured their flesh.
"My men fought with honor, for each of my men that perished, 3 of Elwins went with him. The invaders soon had us surrounded, but we never stopped fighting... one by one my men fell around me, the invaders were clawing over one another to get at us, trampling each other to death to get at us... It was a horror like no other. They were salivating and laughing as they tortured those who had fallen, ripping their intestines from their bodies as they lived, forcing them to eat their own entrails...", Ulantees gags yet again, "they gouged eyes from sockets and cut off the feet of children, forcing them to try to walk as they wailed for their mothers... I had always known Elwin was not a good man, but to employ the services of men... no, devils such as these... no words known to man could describe such a creature. A boulder was let loose into the building me and my men were backed onto, where I was knocked unconcious and my men defeated... Memories of what happened from there on are like a mirage to me, they come to me, momentarily, and when I try to grasp them, they escape me again... I don't even know what happened to my daughter and my dear wife..."
Ulantees begins to look to the ground as his skins pales.
"Dead... I know that much, Ellie, my little girl... she was only seven, I found her body intact, bruised and drenched with blood around her crotch... I dare not even imagine what may have taken place, and Rosabell... my wife... her body was stuffed into a shattered fireplace... a dozen swords protruding from her crumpled body..."
At this Ulantees leaps up and rushes to nearby bushes, the sound of him being violently ill follows soon after.
"A moment my friends...", a roar of frustration, another heave then, "a moment."

"Someone I knew was.... was murdered by the forces of elwin as well, The carnage of my hometown was as absolute as what you have just described to me... I know how it feels..."

He stares blankly into the fire as Ulantees and Aladar speak. As Ulantees describes the battle, and combatants, his eyes twitch at some of the more graphic terms, but he continues to just stare at the fire.
When it sounds as though Ulantees is through…being sick, he looks up from the fire.
“Elwin”, he says in a whispering tone, shaking his head slowly. “He didn’t used to be this way; he ‘was’ a just and noble ruler...when last I was in this land.”
“As I understand from what I’ve heard on the road these last weeks, some time ago the king sent one of his more naïve, but quite talented, soldiers on a mission to acquire an artifact. He did, and shortly after delivering the item to the king, this carnage began. This boy soldier abandoned his position in the King’s army and even attempted to raise a resistance against the king, but was captured and banished from the land. Rumor has it that he may be in Karfendale.”
“I believe there’s more going on here than just a rampaging king; so I am traveling to Karfendale to find this boy and find out what he knows.”

"It can call forth demon souls from some plane... Souls that can take the bodies of men, and control them for their own good. These soldiers were no doubt posessed by such souls... this is no good... I had assumed the whispers of the weapon were only rumors. This makes Elwin a danger to everyone, especially the innocent."
Aladars eyes seemed to flare to life as he thought of the harm that had been coming to innocent civilians. The horrors and atrocities that had been performed under the rule of this now tyrant king. His blood ran cold at the thought of thousands of feral soldiers, clawing over eachother, even killing eachother to get to their target. The image made Aladar shake visibly once more.
"Well, It seems the best course of action would be to find this young warrior... He sounds like someone who could help us a great deal, and I have the feeling we arent the only ones who think so." Aladars eyes drifted over to where Ulantees was doubled over in the bush "Do you feel alright now, I apologize once more for doing that to you."

"Yes... the boy could prove useful, as could both your company, I suggest we travel together, I must admit the companionship would not hurt on this lonely road, nor would hunting prove such a task. We all appear to have a common goal, how does this sound to you?..."
“Yes, that seems the wise decision. I can’t offer a reasonable objection; provided the ‘druid’ can refrain from attempting to change me into a wolf.” He says casting a sharp eye at Aladar.
He raises and moves over to his horse to tether it to a nearby tree.
