I know there are a lot of words that offend me personally, that don't offend other people. Then there are also things like the word "cigarette" which, in America, is a derogitory term for a homosexual, while in England, its a cigarette.
I just have to ask this... but who in the hell told you the word "cigarette" meant homosexual? I am American and this is THE first time I have EVER heard a cigarette referred to that. I even smoke lol. Whoever told ya that, is dead wrong.
Now, I've heard that "cigarette" in one country is called a "cigarette", but it isn't in america. I want to say Britain since I have heard them use the term in their movies.
America referring a cigarette to homosexuality, that moosing cracks me up.

But then again i have no problem calling a fK and FK, it's just words that people find offensive because you were "taught" they were bad words, or because some moron slapped you with it because they knew it bothered you.
The next time someone looks at you and says F A G, laugh and say yes i would like one and let them figure out which you mean. (right after i usally light a cigerette) its all out you deal with it, if you let it bother you then you have just effectivly(sp) taught the person OHHHHH i know how to hurt them now. Ignore it Hell even talk back to them just as brash and they will usally just lay off or see its just words.
Ok i posted my rant back to my game... lol

If you're offended, report. If it continues after they are warned, ban. If it is bad enough in the first place, ban.
What's to discuss?

JLH is just gonna have to be really careful how "adult" he makes the game just for this case because of the fact that it's been advertised in NM1 where the majority of the playerbase is under 18. Think all around there is maybe around 30 of us adults? We are kinda outnumbered in those perspectives.
I thought Ori was older? *shrugs*

this option can be turned off and on by using the command /filter. that way no one will be offended for bad profanity from us adults.
any comments?

not quite right thereThat could work. I used to roleplay on a server called ChatFirst that if you said a swearword, the server would catch it and auto-replace it with (censored). Sure, you could have that option in Nightmist 2 which is so far to be stated that it will be adult rated. However, since NM1 is rated for everyone of all ages, you can't have the option of /filter for everyone, because not everyone is guaranteed to use it. The way the game is now without any filter, some parent sees the way someone talks on this game and JLH could have his server shut down and be prevented from making another one. {Again, do not have to be in the US for this to happen for computer regulations are world wide.} I do happen to like the idea of /filter in this game and in NM2.
you can't shut down a medium of communication (such as nightmist) because someone says something bad on it.
that would be list shutting down an ISP for allowing your computer to browse the internet which has a lot of rubbish on these days.
players have a way to ignore someone's pc, and can do that if they are that bothered about it.
filters are too easy to get around anyway.

Err why not just put a message "Game experience may change during online play" and there you're sorted for chat/skins/any other user generated content.not quite right thereThat could work. All it takes is for one parent to catch their child reading half the crap that goes on in the game and log the actual screen for periods of time over the next few days and that's all it takes. Yes, I have stuided law for quite awhile. Was planning on being a lawyer then I got into retail and decided retail was more of a challenge than being a lawyer.

Hmm... You can't have studied international law for too longDepends on severity of it.. I'm not saying ok someone says "chit" and boom you're server is gone. Sure, one can /ignorepc all they want to but what I was getting at is... that if say parent witnesses like say oh 15 people doing it. Obviously that would create enough problem to file a complaint and by law you have to be given so many warnings and time to correct this problem. The way NM1 is going right now, swearing isn't the only problem anyways. The sexual content that half of the people talk about on this game is absolutely rediculous. Don't know about everyone else, but I play NM because it's supposed to be a game to play. Last thing I want to see when I log onto a game is who is doing who in such and such ways. If I want to read porn, I'll go to an actual rated adult lit site. But it's just the example and sorry truth at the moment in time of the game where one could say "Why you need an adult literary site to read porn when all you need to do is log onto NM!"

Unless the content of my server is illegal in my jurisdiction, (in this case Denmark), no treaty or legislation exists that could force my server closed, (there is such a thing as freedom of speech in democracies, you know). At the absolute worst, my IP-space would be blackholed in the jurisdiction of the person filing what would have to be numerous, (won), complaints.
Quite apart from that, I personally find cybering in open chat distasteful, but /ignorepc is luckily in game now.

You can't have studied international law for too long
I've studied law now both American and International law for 7 years. Got my associates degree in Criminal Justice and was working towards bachelor till I had decided to get my associates in business which they both go hand in hand. Face it, I'm old just like you and probably older

America is supposed to be the land of the free with first amendment guaranteeing that we have freedom of speach. Government is slowly trying to do away with it every day.
Blah had written out a few international laws for you when it comes to computer porn involving children and such but you probably wouldn't understand and would think you were protected by your government which you aren't since NM is played by international players. There is no juristiction, government legistlation, or treaties when it comes to world wide web aka computers.

Oh yeah had to edit this in because the vicadin isn't making me think too straight... as I mentioned before.. you are given warnings first via snail mail and/or email telling you are in violation and given time to correct the violation. So seems to me like you are not reading over my posts close enough because the majority of those letters are of the last 6 months so their court dates are soon to come considering again.. EA, Microsoft, Dreamworks to name a few of the complaintees are all international and being that their products are sold in every single country in the world.. they have copywrites covering every single city and country in the world therefore, that server you gave as an example, is breaking the copywrite law.

Note my use of the word 'illegal' - child pornography is as illegal here as in the US, so that is a bad example to use. Kazaa and Napster were taken down over copyright violations (and child porno content), something which is illegal almost anywhere, and a field where international treaties are in effect to boot.
Since it is not illegal in Denmark, or in fact in most EU countries, to 'unwittingly or with no prejudice or malice aforethought', expose legal minors to pornographic content of any, (legal, which rules out almost anything but child pornograpy in picture form), kind, you would have a very, very hard time convincing a Danish, or for that matter any EU court, to shut down a server under a EU country TLD, citing exposure to sexual content as the reason. Hell, (pardon my French), we even have a very hard time shutting down the Hizbut Tah'rir server in this counry, though the organization is on every terror-list in existence and have used the server in question to recruit suicide bombers for Iraq. The case would be struck down as a matter for parental control. As I said, you might be able to legally pressure US ISPs to blackhole the relevant IP-space, but that is about as far as you could take the matter, (barring a full-scale attack on the country in question by a couple of divisions of the USMC

As for everything else, lets go ahead and take it out of game forum since we are kinda clottering up the posts with it but good work about the terrorist thing just there are a little bit more complications to that matter yadda yadda. Anyways, email is guardianmysticstorm@msn.com if yall want to continue discussing the legal matters. My original intent was to make you aware that half the stuff people are talking about in this game is pretty much lit porno and why instilling more than the /ignorepc feature is necessary since this is an international game and one that is rated for everyone. Just saying be very careful with not only this game but with NM2 as well since children under the age of 18 have already heard about the game and the fact that it's adult rated, you have pretty much your red flags and warnings ahead of time because someone can use this thread as evidence. That as the main point of it all.
PS: In regards about the sharing program mentioned earlier as well as Napster and Kazaa. If anyone remembers, after the warnings and lawsuits with them, users of the program were also being targeted and sued and jailed which eventually in turn, they can eventually sue the crap out of those two programs. Though with the shut down of those programs, it didn't stop others from popping up with theirs such as Ares, Limewire, and others. They suck though because I could be typing in a name of a cartoon and the first 100 searches are all porn. Go fricken figure heh.
anyways, email me and such if you want to continue discussion on it. Right now, someone wants me to go cause hell in the suggestion forum lol.
Btw, I happen to love the french language Roid. Can't speak most of it but I understand and speak some very fluently lmfao
