By far the worst natural disaster in my time.

I am glad that people around the world are stepping up to help clean the mess and rebuild lives.

Yeah know, it is getting kind of old though. I can drive down I75 in Atlanta, Georgia and under EVER single bride there are homeless people. Atlanta based companies have donated almost 500 million dollars in cash and products with Cola Cola being the leader. But yet we can't afford to build a homeless shelter that would offer some type of short term education program that will allow these people a chance at a normal life.

48 countries around the world have donated over 10 Billion dollars total. Many of the countries are still holding big fat IOU's from when America stepped in to help them in thier time of need, yet our economy is in terrible shape and only getting worse.

As humans we want to reach out to these people and comfort them in thier time of need. And I applaud all who have joined in the efforts to rebuild the live of many many many people who have suffered. But when it is all said and done remember there are people in your own backyards who are suffering too.

Can we get Jerry Lewis to hold a telethon for the homeless in America. Maybe we can get Clinton and Bush to do a commerical asking for donations to pay off the national debt.

My prayers are with the many people who are suffering or who have lost a loved one. But my money is staying in my community to help those in MY home to have a better life.

I'll tell you what shocked me the most, and that was the size of the wave.

I always had a mental image of a tsunami like what you would see in movies, of 1 towering wave, dwarfing sky-scrapers etc.

Most of clips and images I've seen of this 1, are quite frankly of a piddling little thing.

Don't get me wrong, i am very aware of the destruction it caused and life it took, but it just didn't look as impressive as I was expecting.

I understand that the swell was 30' tall and travelled at 500m/p/h, but by the time it travelled up the coastal shelves it was less than half that height and a fraction of the speed, yet it did what it did.

The greatest natural distaster to effect humans ever (probably, the death toll looks like making it so), but maybe soon to be over shadowed!

Canary Islands: Volcanic Islands off North West Africa. Very popular holiday destination. Over due to go off. Half the island will slip into the Atlantic in the event of an eruption causing a 'monster' tsunami in the north Atlantic wiping out most of coastal Europe, Eastern USA and West Africa. No early warning system in place.

Yellowstone Park. Enormous volcanic crater. USA National Park. Over due to go off. Massive volcanic eruption, causing sympathetic siesmic and volcanic action world-wide. Global killer, anything not destroyed by tremors or lava flow will perish in the nuclear winter to follow.

Makes you think.

/t Jurian Racism:
1. The belief that race accounts for differences in human character or ability and that a particular race is superior to others.
2. Discrimination or prejudice based on race.

And for the last bloody time, all Americans are not the same person, nor are we the same type of person, nor do we share the same thoughts or ideals, we just happen to live in the same area.
Bye.

prejudice does not have to be just based on race. like my example before i can show prejudice to old ppl and say they all have fake teeth. that's far from racism.

Actually their governments were informed of the tsunami, but the governments didn't want to hurt tourism incase nothing happened. Sad, isn't it? And the amount of them that cared about 9/11 is nearly non-existent. If you may recall, Indinisian anti-American protest hit an all-time high following 9/11.

Jurian, grasp this concept. Racism is a type of prejudice. Categorizing an entire country as closed-minded is prejudice. And as I said just 2-3 posts ago, any type of prejudice is wrong, no matter what type. I never once accused you of being a racist, and in fact have said this once before. Stop being so close-minded and get a grip on reality for a moment.

So as not to piss off everyone else, I'm gonna leave it at this, if you have anything else to say, be curteous and pm me about it, I'll be glad to argue with you there.
Bye.

Indonesia is a very poor country with barely any tourism. The only affected area with high tourism was Thailand, and Thailand although still with devastating results was hit less hard than Indonesia. Where you got the information about anti american protest in indonesia rising after 9/11 I have no idea, but would gladly read up on if you care to supply me with links.

You might be referring to anti american protest in the majority of the world after invading Iraq, but I would hardly single out a country that has way more worries than to mingle in politics.

Also I would be glad indeed if you could supply me with a link to reports that the tsunami was in deed announced to Indonesia or Sri Lanka. Warnings to Thailand might have been made, since the tsunami arrived there quite a bit later due to the distance travelled. Once again, please supply me with links to sites that gave you your information.
