I like the idea, however, if you piece together the maps, you will find a slight problem with the world map.

I took the time to layer Nightmist, Sewers1 and Resthaven over top of each other and noticed that Resthaven's Champion Avenue would pretty much cross the small path south of Nightmist, so Resthaven's sewer entrance would be right in the beginning of the Forest of Souls.

Certainly we could just ignore that and slap in an overground connection aiming in the general direction, but it would lose out on realism there. I would go as far as adjusting the sewer route, but I know that idea won't fly with most of NM.

If land connections were added then the sewers would be adjusted accordingly.

considering u mostly go south and east to BT, and only thing you might cross over going South and east from NM worn path is worn path/plain path on way 2 dessy, it should seem pretty good, make it like another forest, straight path ntn 2 hard, basic monsters, maybe som bandits, sounds good

Well, just like there are mess ups in the desert, no one ever said that the squares were exactly, say, 5 yards by 5 yards big, the actual size of each square could differ if you're thinking in terms of realism. If you have to be technical about it, I guess you could just connect Resthaven to Nightmist with a winding path that is about the length from Nightmist to Arilin that continues south of the worn path and doubles back, but a land area is still needed, besides, if you're still thinking in terms of realism, it isn't realistic to have to travel through the sewers in the first place.

I like this idea, and why hasnt this come up in the past?
Heres my vision.. RH isnt far from NM, but if it were Mountains, some areas may be unpassable. Meaning instead of going a few squares from SouthGate to make it to RH, you would need to find your way (the Long Way) through the mountains. Mabey have them start around the right side of the Gnoll Fortress, and end somewhere in Mt. fenowasty (RH Mountains). Theres room for expansion South of RH, so Sewers wouldnt be interrupted too much. You would need Climbing Gear mabey a Torch, or a lantern to see. Similar to Mt. Sentant, but a different mix of monsters. The occasional Mountain lion, Brown Bear, Bandit, Wolf, Deer, Rabbit, and mabey a few new monsters. Grizzly Bear, Prehistoric Looking Bird (Noname for it yet), Centaur, and mabey a Yeti.

This is only the Route from NM to RH, Just a brainstorm. Nothing too technical.

Well, people were saying how it wouldn't be realistic because the sewers and the path wouldn't match up.

if iam not wrong all you would have to do to make rh and nm have a short term land route south of nm to rh and the sewers not mess up is to simply add like 8-10 squares(a guess) to the sewers.....and also if we're thinking along the lines of realism how come we can all see in the pitch blake of the sewers? after all sewers back in them days didnt exactly have lights and iam sure they would of been closed off other than a few different places, just like our sewers today.

If land routes were made between Nightmist and Resthaven, I would imagine it would be a join between Mount Sentant and Mount Fenowasty, since they are both mountains (and could be part of the same mountain range, along with Mount Frostborn) and lie in similar positions on the world map, assuming that the Ancient Tunnels run underneath the mountain range and emerge to the desert in the South.

Blackthorn I am not too sure about - the last world map showed it on the Eastern side of a giant river (with Arilin on the Western side), but since Harabec was "discovered" and there being yet more undiscovered territory to the East of the Harabecan Empire, known only as the Ancients, that assumption/suggestion of Blackthorn's location cannot be correct. So at present, I am not sure how a land route would connect Blackthorn to Nightmist and the other cities, or the city's actual ground location in the realm.

there was a picture of the nm world done a few years ago, by Cyric i think. Anyone have a copy of it? Heres some directions from what i remember...

RH is south-east of NM, any path between them would probably be from the bottom of nm's southgate path to the north-west side of fenowasty

BT is across a river to the east of the arilin-desert path, about half way from arilin to the cavern entrance extend the path east and put a bridge in

Also Fenowasty should drop onto the arilin-desert path, probably west around the general area of the archthief guild to around where the RH graveyard is

Only problem is Harabec/royal forest wernt thought of then, and they lie roughly where sarka is

I say that via the Mountains of Sentant there's a very treacherous mountain path to the Resthaven mountains, which in essence links up Nightmist and Resthaven with a land route. It would be tough though, for it would be guarded by many Wolves, Mountain Lions, and Bears!

Anything to increase the popularity of Resthaven in my opinion isn't a bad idea. Back in the day, when alts were few and having character was all the rage, RH was the place to be. Strutting through RH with a weak but stylish Jewelled Sword was tew tight. Many a famous battle took place at RH gates, and me and Odin used to pick on that Newbie Ninjakittie at the RG incessantly ^_^

There is this silly little echo in my head that continues to whisper "move windia, revive RH"..."remove adv pots from windia, revive RH"...

i was thinkin a little while ago that the land route between NM/BT should be like a toll road type thing where half way along you should get like a toll thingy where u have to pay like um.....i dunno maybe 100 gold (mayb more or less) meaning people who are skint would have to take to the sewers lol, or just people that cant b bothered to pay. i dunno what pplz think?

Land routes between Resthaven, Blackthorn and Nightmist... there at least had to be some land routes before the sewage system was built.  The only major question that I have to ask is, where is Resthaven and Blackthorn on the world map in relation to all of the other cities?  I can imagine Resthaven being somewhere to the East of Nightmist, maybe off the grassy paths and such, but Blackthorn... that might be even further East than Harabec.

its not as though the nightmist world has sane geometry anyway! for example go south then west from arlin

down into the spider nest tunnels and west and north into sewers 2

then further west to sewers 1

and north back to arlin.
