Being Staff

I've been reading the forum frequently as you know for along time, and a common misconception amongst the player base is that staff choose if/when/how/why/why not/who they will help. This issue has been raised before several times, in forum posts and in general chatter on the game - it's not always serious, nor is it usually directed at a specific member but the fact remains that it is spread as common knowledge. The most used term for it i've seen, is that staff treat their friends fairly and screw the rest. As rediculous as this seems to me, I can understand why some of you may get that impression.......
As a player you cannot see the game working, you can only play it.....a staff member could ban someone for scrolling at the boar's tusk, and could help a newbie out of a crisis in Arilin the next second......you may only see the ban.
When I was staff I would get constant complaints of stealing (this was before /trade) and it was not in my power to do anything about it.....I would have to explain to the player that they'd have to ask an Admin, but it is unlikely that you'll get your stuff back due to not waiting for supervision. This would usually end with the player paging me back calling me an idiot staffer who only helps out people I like etc etc
My point is, that staff tend to build up the player aggrovation themselves, at no fault of their own, but for doing their jobs. Players cannot see the good things they do, so they overlook them and focus on the other side of the staff's job, which is to discipline and to punish. You may not like it when a friend gets banned, and sometimes it is possible for the staff member to be too harsh with a punishment, but you need to accept that they are doing their jobs and in the end its for the good of the game.
Another point I think that needs to be mentioned is that if it was true that staff are selective with who they help, do you really think JLH/pan would have hired them. Sure it's not possible to tell before they are staff if they ARE going to be selective, but it sure as hell is possible to get a good idea.
Staff are the glue holding nightmist together, and the more you tug at them the more likely they are to break.

I seen this like 20 times already, nothing changes, so why even try...

I'm not doing this in retaliation to the accusations aimed at Medora, that issue has been cleared up already.
I'm simply making my point, which is how can you possibly have a fair opinion on a staff members behavior and conduct if you cannot see everything they do?
Leave it to Pandilex and JLH, who can see, and will take action if anything is out of line.

And I like to stick up for staff (knowing myself what its like) and if I had posted something similar before, then even more reason to post again, as it's obviously not getting through to enough people.

Come on, I know this is not what Ste was getting at. That thread was locked, discussion over with.Staff are doing a great job until they are stealing because it was legit.

and Pandilex, we decide things togetherIts a game made and ran by JLH, and thats it. Youre playing on HIS game, and HE chose his staff.

I've never felt that I really say staff are highly unfair much. Bugged JLH for the longest time for a pair of Santa's Boots before I knew about it being a quest and stuff...other than that, don't think I've been too much of a nag either.
*me remembers the memo he just sent Stotic about items in Harabec and asking for something to be changed, heh lol..

Nonsense. Read the rules before you play our game. In real life, if someone set fire to your house would you set fire to theirs? If you did, would you be suprised that you were arrested and jailed?sometimes i do feel staff are be bias....case in pount i get called a dickhead and a ###### at sgh...soon as i retaliate i get 2 week ban...(all i said was "F*ck you puss!"). so i feel that staff need to get full story of it b4 they go pulling that ban trigger. if it was instigated then both members of the problem need to be put in timeout
Staff don't need to see the full conversation, because there shouldn't be one. If they break the rules, and you bring that to the attention of staff, the person will be banned. The same goes for anyone else, if you break the rules, and someone brings it to the attention of staff, you will be banned. It's very very very simple to just abide by all the rules of the game. If you can't hold your tongue, go elsewhere.

and to Throwback, if you have a problem with someone insulting you why would you stoop to that level? If you do that your only making things worse on yourself.
Most of the time nobody can run straight to staff wich is why you can save your text display and send it to staff where it would be handled by them and not yourself, simple as that. And there may be favoritism in game, nobody can deny that there isn't, but who can prove that there is? JLH/Pandilex, so leave it to them to decide who's playing favorites or not.

I'll kick it off here..I predict the future.. this post is going to go a little something like this
Great post
good post
eh, I agree
Stop Kissing Arse
I myself think it was a good post, but sooner then later, someone is going to post something stupid, then people are going to agree.
Simply put, this seems to be just another ass-kissing session.
I care less if anyone thinks different or wishes to flame me, but the fact here is that this is another post where someone is making another attempt at sucking up. Stig, I don't care if you were/are/want to be staff. You started another post just like many others here and on the old forums have. You may mean it in one respect but it makes you out as just another blanant "sheep". (I'm sorry for pointing you out, but you started the post and I've had it with these topics. In reality it's pointed towards everyone who made a topic like this.)
JLH & Pandi are big boys now, and I don't think they need everyones praises 27/7, if such is the case then they would have put another Topic within the Forums for such babblings. As far as other staffers go, who cares what you think? It's not up to you to decide wether thier trustworthy or any good at thier given title. God knows I didn't give a rats ass.

Not to mention if you need people to say "Hey nice work.", "Great Job.", etc... and if the userbase doesn't show you that people like what you have done then I'm sorry, but that is vain.
You just dissapointed me Pandi, of all people I would have thought you to be the one to say something like "I'm proud of my work wether you like it or not, if you don't like it leave."

I'm just sticking up for the staff that I was once apart of, I know what it's like.

Yet the userbase isn't enough to tell you others enjoy it, you like the verbal recognition. You've said it, maybe you beat arround the bush in one way or another but you said it.
/t Stig
Like I said, I'm sorry for pointing you out, but god man, how many posts do we need to see where people are going to shove thier noses up the staff's asses? OK greeat you were staff at one time, whoopiedoo.. enough telling us what we allready know. What you are now as opposed to what you were are completely different now. Everyone and thier mother knows your going to support staff, thats a given.
Now I'm assuming you have both missed my point. My Point was I'm fairly sure staff can stick up for themselves. Having someone (even former staff) stick up and give praise to them is nothing more then as seen. Kissing ass. There may be some exceptions, but this was an unnecessary topic to begin with.

The whole point to my post was to make people consider their opinions on staff - If they think they've been unfairly treated in whatever way then it is possible that its something other than favourtism.
Stuff like this happened to me all the time, and it got tiresome and annoying, to the point of where the staff position became a burden. If it continues then who's to say another staff member won't leave, and as someone mentioned who's to say Pandilex/JLH won't close the game down, believe me i'm sure they've been close before.
You really have no clue about past nightmist, or me, so how can you possibly tell the intentions of my post. Untill you can why bother trying to start something?
