Pandilex gave out Dancing Boots to Horny...for giving him lyrics to a song.

Ok, now it's not a big deal to put a new quest item into game, but to do so without having it related to the game at all is pretty annoying to those of us who actually play NM.
So, for those of us who play...there's no entertainment in this little gift he gave. We don't get to go hack at some monster or explore a new area. Instead, we get to see a player known for helping with stealing one of the better accounts in Nightmist given boots that are better than any non-dex mod boots in game...for doing nothing on NM.

So, I just wanted to make a post, pointing out to JLH that when I said "Admins don't seem to care much anymore."---I didn't say it without any reason or out of complete ignorance. These are the types of things that make it seem that way.


So sure Simon, if you'd given me a pair, I would've liked it, but it wouldn't make it a better thing to do.

Makes me think of the quest, when the prince was traveling through the royal forrest after Harabec took over and he was killed he drops and prince's ear that umm does nothing (granted maybe it was going to, but doubtful). That small (but cool) quest someone gets a useless ear but at least it was relative to the game,and in this case someone sitting at sgh yells a line of music trivia and they get sweet boots LoL go figure.

those boots are way to powerful for such a silly assignment..when i was staff and wanted to plan something for the game i constantly had to worry about it not overpowering items, and it not being completely unbalanced. yet out of nowhere, boots can pop up for doing jack all?

Well, Greaves of Elusiveness were given out also. I'm not quite sure how, but Aeryn suggested that it was a similar poor way of dealing out such a valuable and rare item.

Anyway, these new boots are char modding without any negative effects.
Greaves are -1 int with same armor...so you guys kind of got screwed here.

While it may sound hypocritical, I'll be the first to admit that this kind of handing out of rare or unique items for such a simple answer is unfair. I'm not sure why nobody complained when I first got the Greaves. Because I've never stolen? Because the question required a bit of thinking to answer? Because I didn't sell them for more than a year?

Oh, and the answer to the riddle is : venom..

Edit: I'm told that it's a riddle that appears on a Magic card, but I've never seen it.

It was just wrong giving out a quest item for answering a lyric to a song i sat there and watched the whole thing i was thinking maybe like a hally but not a quest item she just added a CSotW and 2 mil to her account for getting a line to a song.... which she probaly just was the fastest one to google to........

i remember some silly ring being given out in a one square mosh. a large clan won because it had lots of people online at the time who had no better ideas than to protect one dude. i don't think that was the greatest idea.

i remember a RoW dropped at the village people concert.

i remember that charisma ring was given out to a dude who was standing outside of pan's place, for that very same reason.

i remember the thief ring was given out for solving a series of riddles and defeating a boss type guy.

and the only problem i can see with any of these things is that only one person can have the thing that many try to get.

when i started this game one month after the reset, already there were a handfull of people owning all the unique items. there were about a dozen unique items given out in that month (or so it seems) and then less than half of that over the next two years. so when i see people pissing and moaning about something happening, i don't understand why we can't say "hey atleast something happened". it's just because usually our pissing and moaning prevents this stuff.

another thing is, it was not so well known when or how you got them...

(Note: Myself and Sleeping do accual quest and get 40k gold and Prince's Ear .. can't blame ppl for being annoyed eh)

Putting aside the rumours behind Horny assisting a crime, giving out a pair of sturdy Dancing Boots is one way Pandilex repays a personal favour. Some people repay with money, others with a gift, some with a favour in return, and in the case of one of the instructors in my Kung Fu club, the chief instructor rewarded him by teaching him a twin battle-axe pattern for helping him build a large shed. Horny helped Pandilex for lyrics in a song, and he paid her back with a pair of Dancing Boots - being an administrator he can do that, while I admit that the armour and stats are probably a bit high, but many rare items are like that.

I'm glad that for once I can't be accused of starting the trouble, because I know if I had been the one opening my mouth first, I would have been the one "brainwashing and influencing" everyone into believing all this again...

Now that someone else has started a topic on this and I'm merely one of the many posters on it, I have to say that I agree with Gaddy here. What will come next? Giving out unique items for telling Simon where to buy his favorite coffee cheapest?

I'm sorry Crane that I disagree with you here, even admins shouldn't give out advantages on a game like this for personal favors. He could have paid her back with a nice staff comment or some of the candy selection, but not boots of this sort of value.

but yeah personally I think stuff like this ruins nm some people can spend hours in the dessy but just sitting at sgh on a lvl 1 waiting for a questie to drop thats worth 20m+ is far more profitable or so it seems

When it comes down to it theres many ways to play the game and Horny has found a preaty good one. She was the only one on server who knew the lyrics and that makes her a winner. It takes a player like Gaddy a month of training to make what she made in about 10 minutes of online time. Its just how the cookie crumbles nothing says nightmist has to be fair to all. Look at Bracelet of Speed...do you really think them being ingame has affected us that much. On further note me holding the boots means im keeping them..knowing me I wont put them to good use and therefore wont have any affect on the game.

Ok, I know I should just let this post drop since JLH is doing what he wants to do with it right now, but I've got to mention this---

I just am tired of how gay this was made. Why on earth would he put some lyrics as the way to get the boots? Screw that the boots are in game and exist, it doesn't change a lot for them to with all the other dominating items he's handed out, but to put them in that way AGAIN! just shows how little he cares about the game.
Boots of Haste being put in by a 'magical box'. (sold for 30m)
Bracelet of Speed, the newest, was a magical box that dropped a Spider Staff. Why he changed it to BoS later, I've never heard the reasoning. (None ever sold?)
Greaves of Elusivness were given for Trivia. (sold for 12m)
Onyx Bracelet- Someone retyped the numbers that Pandi listed. (sold for 13-14m)
Bracelets of Speed (2) owned by Maximus were just dropped onto SGH square or something- Just what I've been told. I wasn't around. (Not sold)
Dancing Boots- Given for giving Simon the lyrics to a song. (Sold for 12m)

I know of a Bracelet of Speed that was thrown out of Pandilex's window or something.
there's the Crest of Zaduk...
Pandilex dropped a load of Nightshade Elixirs once.
He dropped and retrieved numerous items once - and a few people beat him to the retrival... I know of a Halberd and Amulet of Pandilex so far.


All of these were run by Simon as far as I know.
But in my opinion, it just shows how little is cared about Nightmist. There is no effort put into these quest items, and they're far FAR better than the items from real quests.
It's just the point I was asking on the NM2 poll-
Will staff do stupid things like this as a way of giving stuff out on NM2?
Cause even if I get a BoS equivilent, I'd be pissed off paying for a game where Admins couldn't be bothered to at least make a monster and have it killed.

The Crest of Zaduk was in a kind of quest though, which involved taking a Green Token, exchanging it for a Red Token in Sarka and then returning to the Southern Gatehouse.

You would have to count the Gold Bracelet too, as that was acquired in a similar way to the Boots of Haste, although that was run by Zephie.

gold bracelet was only a 1 ac brace which you had to MOVE from sgh to get and it wasnt worth much

quest was short but fun nothing to major but worth going

If someone other then Di got it, there wouldnt be such an issue. And god forbid a powerful player got it, oh, that's the issue, non of the powerful players got it. seriously... it's pandilex. he gave away a ring of the wise for attending a village people concert! he dropped boots of speed for no good damned reason at the sgh! he dropped devestate on the ground! why? who knows! he used to do this crap all the time but people kept harrassing him like the bunch of whiny babies we are and it slowed down to almost never.

for the love of god, it's free crap. we should be praising this kind of thing.
