let's say when you page someone it opens a dialogue window where you chat with that person. it would have the standard options and functions. it would have an "X", and all that, and a "buffer" to put your words into before hitting "enter" and "sending" the "message" to the person you're talking to. also, why not give out invites? for example typing "/invite chat some_name" would invite some_name into a silly room where needn't toggle or create new colors to understand what's going on. i just thought since there's a (albeit) small demand for a specific chat for everything, why not have one chat for everything outside the current supported chats. that, and just to make some things easier, less wordyness to clutter up the main window, and better ease of use than the current paging system.
wouldn't it be funny if rich had registered this name first, and you were bickering with him?

now that i think about it, tabs might be good idea to organize all our chats. over the main buffer there could be a set of tabs. one for "all", "clan", "friend/enemy", and whatever else there is that works that way. it's probably possible to organize everything that way, but separate windows would still be usefull for pages, and little rooms of whoever you want.

I see where you're coming from but I personally wouldn't use it.

If I really wanted to talk to someone, I'd ask for their AIM/MSN/Yahoo handle.

But that's just me.

So you're saying you never use clan chat, friend chat, pages or anything else along those lines?

Would this need a lot of server power? (hense lag problem)
Or would this be part of the client?

i'm not a programmer but i believe that the client should be able filter out what's friend, clan, main, etc. logically, it shouldn't be more server intensive than color codes.

I'm afriad I'm against it. It's a nice idea, but would just start to push Nightmist further away from it's goal of being a game, and more into a Chat Client.

Obviously but if I want to chat (notice I use the word "chat", not talk to or converse - chat), then I'll just ask them for an out of game handle.

Yes, friend chat can get hectic but, if that's the case, then either remove your "noisey" friends or turn it off.

well, the goal of it all is to organize all of the chatter that goes on. that's why i added the tabs idea. it's not as outright chatty, but serves the purpose of organizing everything that goes on, because we have a lot of different conversations going on, and it wouldn't be a bad thing to seperate them into other windows if it suits your preference. right now we have everything in one buffer, and it works, but it would make communication easier to have conversation seperated from actions either by separate windows or tabs.

Ahh, I've seen something almost identical to this on another game. It made everything so much easier. It kept everything organized. Supported! ^.^

I like the idea exspecially for pages. I get so confused at times with pages talking to 4-5 diffrent people.

The only problem I see with it being a seperate window is other will take advantage of it. For example 1 person is training and another sees this person. One square away they page and have the advantage because the person they are attacking have a window in thier face they must close or minimize.

Unless everyone just wanted to train DND and enjoy just clan/friend chat.

That's why we should have tabs instead of separate windows. To stop people making new windows pop up in the middle of a fight dognapot had the idea to have to send an invitation to make it happen.

I think I know what other game you are referring to, and I like it a lot too. That game has tabs for different chats as well as pop up windows for pages that you can turn off if you don't want to receive them.

By organizing it via tabs those who don't want to change a thing could leave it on the "all" tab, while others might swap to just "clan", "friends" or "square"

I was a little confused at first at the "tab" thing.

It's basically a filter, right? If I'm on my Clan Tab, then friend chat, enemy chat, etc. won't show up on my screen, right?
