Considering it's an attempt at assination, one has to assume that it is a planned, calculated and precise attack, therefore, striking ones target exactly where one intended, an exposed vital area. Obviously a theif isn't going to think to himself 'Right, that plate armour is gonna get it.'

True, but when people attempt to assassinate someone sometimes they dont always hit their mark correct, sometimes they hit a diff spot thus injuring someone for less entended..

Using a dagger thieves have a small chance of injuring anyone unless the attack they carry out is accurate, and can hit a part of an enemy which is noticeably vunerable.

What I mean is, if they miss their target spot then the chances of them doing any damage at all is slim (due to heavy armor etc) which is why you could explain how they either hit for full dmg or miss.

I like that definition, good way of thinking the rp works with it.

Yeh nicely said, i guess i was thinking more of an actual assassination attempt and not so much with a dagger :)

i think thieves should be able to hit target in their vital organs and cause the target to bleed to death ... kinda like giving it poison ... but u cant cleanse it ... or remove it with healing ...

i thought it does include armor? like when you assass a zerk (presumably 0- -10armor) it hits way more.. doesnt it? i dont have a high lvl theif or w/e, but i have noticed my zerk gets hit nicely from Jen's theives on occassion. if you are meaning like You attempted to assassinate x but his/her armor absorbed some of the blow for x damage, then its the same as rapid fire.. seems to hit zerks nicely and hling fighters.. well, not as nice lol

i dont know, i havent played NM in a week or two (on mortals that is) so i may have forgotten :S

I don't believe armor comes into affect with assassinate.
