What i was thinking was that it would be cool would be a picture depending on the area your in.. EG: if you were in the large forest it might be a picture of some dense forest... etc... it could go behind text if theres no where to put it? but i think it would make a good addition to the game.. small but effective

I'm not sure.. I don't think it'd look too perfessional and possibly jsut tacky- Nice idea however.

Putting pics behind the text sounds like a nice idea. But think of the work that would be needed to find not copyrighted pics to go there for each area we have.
Oh and did you think about readability of the text if the pic is actually put behind it? (Would probably to have go there since I don't see any free space on the client)

If this was put in, there would have to be a way to toggle it.

well, i dont reckon the text would be awfully hard to read.. the text is in a rectangle yeah? well i was thinking it would go at the bottom right hand of it... it could even go behind your inventory.. or behind where the monsters are.. this could be added over time, pic by pic. and im sure the pictures wouldn't be too hard to make/get a hold of.. as for toggling? im sure it could be added into the options with relative ease.

It wouldn't be that hard to make decent area pictures. Look at the snowy mountains/sky in this picture. That was done in about 5 minutes or so by my brother, and I think it looks pretty good... it would be just as easy to do forest areas, deserts etc.

I think it could be good, at least have a trial area in the large forest or something, and i would find a sewer pic rather amusing, specially if there are ninja turtles.

Let's get pics for all the items and monsters first.

I believe that is the pic.

It would be cool, but as Stotic said alot of other things to be done first.

I can also see this idea holding up the creation of an area...

If pic idea is not good I suggest that only text colors would be change at different places. e.g. high mountain area text would be white (as snow is) and in the Barracks dark grey, in the forests: green etc. What you say?

The closest that I've done so far is some concept art on A4 paper of a Hydra Hatchling... but I'm sure I could design a picture of an area or two.

I really don't want to see these kind of images. Novels don't have pictures and they seem to do just fine.

Yes, but the quality of the writing in the novels is far better than that in Nightmist.

I think setting aside a piece of Nightmist's Homepage for concept art would be better.

What Nightmist lacks in writing, it makes up for in drama.

considering it takes us long enough to sort out pics for monsters/items, pics for areas just won't happen. It would require a massive very good artist team to do it, and with over 15 thousand squares in game, i hate to think of the size of the download!

I like the idea personally as it helps you to get into the areas your exploring - however I'd put the images in a sepeate window (possibly /web, or another command to bring up a pop - up window).

Now these could either be added to each individual square in the area, or just a couple at the start so the players can have a quick look.

JLH has a point there!

I would like to see an area of the site reserved for concept art - I like to see the players' interpretations of areas, monsters and even their own crits (don't be shy Charon, I like your drawings!)

Could just add another folder in the staff/player pics section, would only take afew seconds and is just as effective.

I'd like to see an updated and maintained world map like the one Cyric made.
