Hey everyone!
It's been about two years since I've played and wanted to know what all is new on the world of Nightmist.

Gaddy deleted these posts about another game.
There is not a Nightmist 2 or similar creation released (or expected). Posting other games here may confuse that issue and cause players to download content that is not related to or supported by Nightmist developers or staff.
Nightmist forums are not intended for advertising other games. The information has been allowed to remain in the Off Topic forum, but do not pull it into Nightmist - Game Discussion. Message individuals if you feel they may be interested in downloading your or others' content, but be sure to make it clear that it is not a Nightmist related development.

Amandil Axilya just gave you a Crystal Radiant.
Alexia just gave you a Dragon's Breath.
Those are two of the newest additions to Nightmist! Super cool high-end gear - crafted my first of each of them today. :-D
The Red Dragon is a new boss south of Resthaven for level 31+ fighters only. His Dragonbane drop is part of the Dragon's Breath crafting.
The other that I still haven't made is Har'oloth Velve.
That's an upgrade of Bone Skewer that is craftable without quest drops. So huge leveling of the playing field for folks who want a top-end thief, but it would take years to get enough for a thief party with strong vamp daggers (I think). It requires Assassin's Tear from one of the new grandmaster bosses detailed below. So Dagger of the Winds is still practical.
There is a ton of new content for high level parties:
Generally level 33+ needed to survive, but lower in some cases while higher in others. I've always done everything except Marshall of the Inquisition with at least one other person, and even Marshall kills some of my alts.
It starts with the Cauldron of Shadows south of Jahanna Desert - some rough beasts in there. It has it's own secrets and a few different ends depending on what all you have relative to keys. Cauldron Chieftain drops Stone Key, which lets you continue on to the Stone Dragon.
Eventually, Marshall of the Inquisition (in the Cauldron of Shadows) drops Inquisitor's Key and you're able to go to the Grande Inquisitor.
Grande Inquisitor is at the end of the Inquisitor's Tower in Blackthorn. Yep, Inquisitor's Tower is finally a playable area!
Grande Inquisitor drops warrants for the strongest bosses in-game. There are currently 3 that I know, and they're real rough.
Gothmog, Lord of the Balrogs - Cuffs of the Djinn, Darkspinner's Cloak, Sentant Stone - one of the warrants lets you fight this undead boss in a secret passage in the Gnome Caves up Mount Sentant.
Woobie - Assassin's Tear - another warrant lets you into the level 33+ limited area on the path south of Arilin before the entrance to the desert. She's quick and has a range of attacks; I don't think anyone has managed to fight her solo successfully.
Shadow Drake - Shadow Brace - the last warrant that I know of lets you into another secret route within the Cauldron of Shadows; Shadow Drake is another undead boss, and it runs along a route that has traps. There is a short time before the drake escapes, and I think it's taken almost everyone at least a group of 3 to kill it before it escaped.
I'm not sure if all of this is within the past 2-years. Nor do I know the timeline of other 'new age' Nightmist stuff:
Dvengar Stronghold - with Dvengar Runemaster and Nyr, Sleeper Under the Mountain.
Kyranchian Sect - level 28 limited area west of the Grassy Meadow; it's fairly tough for my level 25 party
Paladin Area - I don't know much about Castle Darksparrow still...just never dove into figuring it all out, etc.
Platinum Coins - expanded beyond the 5 PC level 31-35 items to add 10 PC gear for level 36-38 of each class - specifics on the Wiki.
I'm sure there are things that I'm forgetting.

So.. uh.. Nightmist is finally dead, huh? Was a good run. Such a shame. The game client had so much potential. I guess MUD's are on their last leg these days.

You know the scene in Monty Python's "The Holy Grail" where they're taking out their dead but one man insists he isn't dead?
Nightmist is kinda like that right now.
Some of us still kicking around and playing because we don't acknowledge a low player count as a reason to quit.

upgrade, update, upgrade, update.
i stopped playing a lot when there became nothing new ever.
minor updates don't do it...
every game you can constantly become more powerful but not NM (must have balance)
I say move on. allow strong upgrades, craftable quest items, obtainable rares more often.
NM stopped when staff and admins choose a limit, no expansion.
I really like to play nightmist, but it is not interesting right now.. let me make charisma rings or gain wisdom rings, a 0.5 vamp sword even if low damage.
I don't care if it was worth 200 million 7 years ago, its the ability to still gain such an item that would interest me again.

I have called for engine upgrades before, but we can't be hopeful. I do my best with areas and equipment though. Maybe some of these will convince you... all are obtainable!

Posted 31 August 2016 - 04:24 PM
Probably has something to do with the fact that the game was originally designed with multi-alts in mind, and the 1a server was hastily created with little to no back-end coding to balance gameplay for single players. Just a hunch.
But why are you mad, though?

Had to watch it. Hah. Well played, sir. That just about sums it up.
I vote JLH sell his code to Gaddy and Crane, or whoever is still helping the game. Or you guys should go and help those Ember Online guys who are still actively making a game.

And what's wrong with that?

Living with a mummy is probably dangerous and gross. Thinking the wrapped up skeleton is reminding you about hygiene practices is concerning.

Personally I Agree with Kakarott, Nightmist was originally intended for multi-use its always been the intent for Nightmist, 1-alt was a test to see if JLH and PAndilex could get the core of the game to function properly as a single user instance for the reveal of Opal Spheres back in the day, but things fell thru corruption amoung staff and numerous other issues arose and set the 3d Upgrade of Nightmist back a few years, then when 1-alt started receieving a larger number of players, and multi-alt started dieing out, they aborted the production of Opal Spheres, but 1-alt was never meant to stay around aslong as it did, but it did due to certain players whining about the removal of the services due to them "working so hard 30'ing toons". but other then that, there are still a few of us original Multi-players still lurking about, that take joy in running around killing things and taking bosses etc.

We won't know unless JLH and Pandilex outright tell us. I think it was designed for multiple alts, but not to the extent seen today. Until the release of Windows XP, you could generally only have 4 characters active at once.
