Hi,

 

I used to play RoK years ago and planned on playing again (stroll down memory lane) but as it is unavailable I was thinking of checking out Nightmist.  I do have a question, however - is there a map display anywhere in the user interface?  I was glancing at screenshots, and saw no map.

Unfortunatly there is no map displays, however youcan do ingame ./web and click wiki on the main page of nightmist and it gives you a ton of maps there all on a small user friendly web page easily minimized for game usage and map viewing alike!

95% of nightmist is memory based and its easy to pickup on as you do have to run alot..

I'm too lazy to read - what happens when you die?  Items go poof, or...?

And what's the best class to start out with?  I like to solo as much as possible...  kind of a loner.

Hmm depends really i personally like fighters they can tank alot of mobs etc, but if starting out you can get your hands on a spider staff yes the damage maybe lowish but you can go solo train on a lot of different stuff with a druid. If you will be around tomorrow around 1-4pm in the afternoon eastern time i can show you some stuff or you can ask anyone in clan Pandemonium for assistance, interim Chairman is Sanity if you page him in game he may help you. There is alot more to higher levels weapons gearing and all that makes it easier to level much more then i can talk ab here.. Just all about the daily grind.. If you put in the time youll do great.

Very kind of you to offer advice - thank you.  Unfortunately, I work until 5 PM so I'm unable to actually play at that time (though I do a lot of research i.e. goofing off at work when it's slow  ).  Prime time to play for me would probably be 6-9 PM EST (it will vary a lot as I am married lol).

When you die the gold on you goes back to that mob, items do drop out of your inventory. They have added vaults in nightmist town itself for you to keep items you dont wanna loose in storage, there is also banks to deposit gold you dont want to be lost aswell!

No. I was not well known in RoK...  mains were Ashaman and Mandragoran and Aryneus and MistMage (though I did not always own MistMage).

So does everyone play on main server or 1 alt server?

1 alt and there is a lot of rok people here,

main server is pretty much dead for the most part, the game updates and area additions are all added to 1alt.

I think I'm going to do a halfling Paladin (my main in RoK).

 

How critical are stats in Nightmist?  Is this good for ling Pally:

Think you need max wisdom and int isn't needed for pallys in nm.

I personally would go with p x p p p x build for a pally

For a first character, you can get away with being slightly off on Constitution like that.  See how it performs and if you roll something better later on, you can always replace that character as your main.

Regarding a map feature, there was talks of implementing it once, but it never came to fruitation.  There are some issues as well regarding how to handle the few areas that are non-Euclidean (A couple of areas have toroidal topography, for example; they wrap back on themselves).

^ this roll is actually working out pretty good for me... been getting lucky & mostly hitting 9 hp per lvl...  I had more hp @ lvl 5 than the other halfling I made with perfect Con...  I may just use this.

good! I hope the 1a players keep telling everyone that! more loot for the handful of us that still play over there!

 

Theres normally people on multi daily but alot of them use the /toggle who feature.. I do kinda wish they would remove that but hey if you can't beat em then join em.

 

@deepfriar- I would go 18 x 21 18 18 x for a paladin if you're set on a halfling while also trying to have the closest charisma you can get to the max which is 19. Something like 18 x 21 18 18 16+ would be very good.. alot of us that still play have gotten picky on stats/hp and even more so on 1alt because hp matters more. If you can roll/find a 18 x 21 18 18 x with decent hp it would be good enough to get into the game and make some gold.

No disrespect to you orcmain dj, Only reason i say mains dead is alot of player base is on 1alt i infact have main stuff and play from tome to time but the facts remain 1alts player base out numbers main and for the most part here lately alot of updates coming 1alt way!

It was suggested that I make my Halfling a Ranger instead of Paladin since Charisma is perfect also......  would this be a wise choice?  Are Rangers good for solo?

Never mind...  I looked up Rangers and Hypnotize is not the same as Tame (from RoK)... I like pets.

 

I'ma stick with Pally I think.

Rangers are a really good solo character as later on they can hit almost every stamina, get more stamina faster then almost every other class, and can solo kill a lot of bosses in game (with a decent amount of time to be there). They're decent to pk with (though thief and mage are the best) whereas you'll probably never get a pk on the paladin. On the flip side, rangers miss a lot at lower levels and can be a bit frustrating when it comes to power training, i.e. you'd rather use a bow then equip a torch for swamps which gives massive experience. Paladins can heal for consistent damage up til a certain point, and I would argue that paladins have far more interesting equipment that you might switch out for different situations,whereas with a ranger at a certain point you'll pretty much look like every other ranger in game and never switch your equipment.

Just thought I would add Ranger with torch sucks since they hit way less than fighter does with ./attack.... but I know nothing about rangers danny is a god when it comes to knowing about rangers only listen to him
