So I was away from the game for a good while... however id love someone to pointout how its fair that a character 10 levels over you should be allowed to kill you...?

now 5 levels I could understand... the fight would possibly be fair or at least slightly-less one sided... call me crazy tho...

now if your gonna post on this forum to flame. then save your breathe. no one has interest in your BS.

well atleast its 10 levels instead of when it was 2003 you were lvl 5 and anyone with a lvl 5-30 could kill you

well oddly the fight would be about the same result in that case. any lvl 40 could easily take out a lvl 30... is it fair to the level 30 who is now able to be killed by everyone? hell no! Normally by the single click of a button...

lol true that. I got no problems with the 10 level difference at all.. I'm used to it... its been that forever even before the level 40 cap. level 20s never whined aout how it was unfair to get one hit clicked by 30s that much over the years.. probably due to lack of exp loss.. but even at level 30 the exp loss isnt THAT much.

my complaint isnt xp loss. xp is easily gained back. my massive issue with the 10 level deal is the one-sidedness of it all. i fully understand how player's are used to it. but why should you be...? why not lower it to 5 levels and even fights up... use your brain a quick second to pk someone... lol.

I was just giving my opinion, it doesn't really effect me either way so I just don't see a point in staff taking the time. I train in spots that I dont get pk'd very often so a level difference change wouldn't do anything for me. I actually find it more entertaining when I'm on my 25 zerk and a level 35 char fails to kill it.

speaking of... would zerks become slightly overpowered if it was changed due to thier hp?

Why does everything in the game have to end up what clan you're in? I just joined RoS as I just came back to 1a since I have friends there.

the opinion I offered, I've given 5 or 6 times now everytime this same suggestion is popped up and its always the same(even when I was in DA and Pande).

I really do wonder if this move will make zerks OP pvp. Unless its a decked out char that gets a massive hit on the zerk, other classes would have to still double team or bring shades most of the time to round them(given they dont wait till mod or mort everytime) at 5 levels difference due to thier HP. I'm sure to some I'm "being biased" about this since I hold a different opinion and I'm in RoS but the fact remains my main character(aside from the one im borrowing to train/gold) is a level 25 zerk(Juggalo).

I'm all for suggestions to improve the game and I enjoy stuff being done that balances the game more not make it easier for me or others who own a certain class so thats why I popped up the idea.. sorry if I came off being snobbish.

I'm just unsure how zerks match up with others classes standing like that, if they did change something so drastic like that I would hope the time would be put in to make sure there is balance so all classes no matter what they are could stand and duel it out with the others if thats what we're goin for.

Edit: I would support something like this if it was done right for all classes, aslong as its just not thrown in and then we gotta deal with whatever happens good or bad lol.

I really respect that you stayed in the spirit of the convo. and thank you!

i do almost have to believe that zerks are probably the most OP class on 1alt. i think either way zerks are just one of thoes classes that are a little touchy...
i dont see them becoming a worse issue... a lvl 35 crit pking a lvl 30 is still a little unfair... however they can somewhat match up... i only wish to make things more balanced... or at least make a suggestion to make things more balanced lol... my main question stands...can someone please show me how a lvl 40 pking a lvl 30 is fair?

I don't see how you can say zerks are OP, lets not forget realistically you need a cobalt to get the boost in exp and gold required for grandmaster levels, unless you have a highly dedicated cleric at your side 24/7, also zerks training out of town you won't see a thief coming (and as i've said many times, unless you carry spyglass and are extremely paranoid) you won't see a thief coming with nightshades. But to stay on topic you do have a point, it's not exactly fair, if the difference was decreased to 5 levels the fights might be more interesting, assassinates might fail more, but would you really want to take that feeling of clicking an enemy away from someone?

I fully support the idea of lowering it to 5 level difference. It's not fair when a level 35 berserker/thief comes and clicks you on anything you are on at lvl 25. It's stupid how a lvl 33 druid can come and kill a lvl 23 berserker(i don't have a lvl 23 berserker just throwing this in). I think that, like Dangerous said, it would be a lot more interesting if the level difference was lowered to 5 instead of 10. As it stands, once you hit expert you start dying from lvl 30-34. How is that fun? There is literally nothing you can do other than stop training at that point. If new people were to start playing and they got to level 24 and basically couldn't train anymore why would they keep playing? I think that a majority of the playerbase will keep new players from joining and staying in the Nightmist community. This idea would improve the game drastically.

I think Arenas need to be have the xp back to normal if were gonna be talking about ideas that wont happen. As awesome as it would be it wont happen... Nothing is gonna change on this game especially with the diminishing player base... I do agree with you Rick that something should be done... I also think that when someone reports an account stolen the result should be deletion of account... lol... and why is this in the leaving/returning forum lol.. Staff please move to ingame discussion lol...

-lvl 5-30 characters can only attack and be attacked by other lvl 5-30 characters.(still keeping the 10 lvl difference cap)
-lvl 31-40s are all fair game to each other

Level 31 can't attack a level 30? Doesn't make sense to me.

If you were out in the wilderness fighting monsters and came across a known enemy, would you not attack them because they weren't as advanced as a fighter as you? No. You'd slay them to ensure you yourself do not get killed. Which is very easy if said player has hypno/track/vampiric weapon/self-heal/shade/etc..

Perhaps not the best defense, but tightening the pk gap to +/- 5 levels does not make logical sense to me.

Fight the good fight.

Not supported.

That being said, leave it as it is and focus on something that matters.

Keep 1-29 at a level 10 cap. Make 30-40 5 cap to keep things interesting. Or why not be able to flag yourself for pvp while your in a pub.

More than likely it won't even cross a staff members mind.

That's actually a good idea. In fact I always thought it should have been a 3 level difference, and I was one of the biggest PKers around in my hayday. This is a change that is more apt to get new players to the game as well. Or at least it would help not scare away new players. With how casual/newbie friendly most games are today something like this change needs to be implemented for anyone new to the game to actually stay past the first few times they get ganked by people way higher than them. Nightmist is already anti-new person, and this would only be one small change out of many that would need to be made to bring/keep new players.

Also why was this moved to the leaving and returning forum? This is gameplay discussion as far as I can tell. :S

I actually agree it should be a 5 level difference, but to make it work there is many many other things that need to be put in place first.

I was gonna suggest this months ago but thought it was pointless...

Why not add a system that makes different parts of the map a different pk level cap?

Lvl 1 been 2 level difference.
Lvl 2 - 3 level difference.
Lvl 3 - 5 level difference.
Lvl 4 - 7 level difference.
Lvl 5 - 10 level difference.

This would probably sort out the pk whine sessions that go on.

Obviously it doesnt have to be these differences but its just an example.

Some of you might realise where i get this idea from but for nightmist i wont state where.

Something DJ said in an early post, a level 20 cant really moan at being killed with them not earning as much exp and gold or losing much.. a level 30 loses alot more of that especially on the 1-alt server. So yeah they can complain.

Side note: Why is this in the Leaving/Returning section instead of Discussion?

Thats the risk you take in any part of the game.

Only way to stop that is no parties, which if happened, JLH may aswel shut NM down.

Here's my experience of it...

I was in the Triplex once with Crane at level 38, and the opposing team consisted of three Berserkers, two at level 32 and one at level 33. My two teammates were quickly killed off, but I proceeded to defeat the team of Berserkers completely single-handedly, and that was only 6 levels apart with multiple opponents. Granted, Paladins are very good at self-defense, but still...

Extrapolating, it's easy to see that at ten levels apart, it's a pure curb stomp battle.

What's the point of this? There's what 1 level 40 on the 1 alt server? And 5 on multi? It's not like Manda even logs on to pwn your noob faces anymore. It's been 10 levels for ages now, if any change were to be made, i'd suggest removing the restriction so lvl 40's can click lvl 5's all day

People mainly play this game for 2 reasons.

1: To develope characters and see how far they can get with that.

2: To pk others and playing the fighting aspect of the game.

As the game is now the ppl that wanna pk are favorised since they can kill chars 10 levels lower and chance of failing a pk is very low.

Another isue is that if you finally manage to get a char to level 35-40 and isn't the pker type you now lose a big amount of xp to either a person with a shade or 2-3 ppl teaming up. Further if they can't kill you they just log a thief to rob their gold.

If staff wanna keep things fun for everyone they should consider lowering xp by death considerably, rethinking shades and maybe pvp level difference.

If characters lose less xp on dying at high levels ppl and odds were more even you would see more challenging and fun pvp fights outside town and ppl would be more eager to explore new areas and part of maps due to losing less xp on death traps.

If you lose 2 hours work in a few sec too often you will just find better things to do with your time.

The playerbase has been pretty low for a while now so from my point of view it could be worth making the game more interesting for the players playing the game for other things than pking and setback others over and over.

Pking is a part of the game yes but there should be options for players that want to develope and explore too.

Maybe playerbase would even go up again then.

Pking is my favorite thing about Nightmist and I still believe the loss of exp per death is rediculous. Yes I enjoy killing people and making them lose countless hours of training over and over and over again but that is what honestly kills the game. No one wants to bust there ass for weeks that can be wiped away in a few deaths.

I think the exp per death should be recapped and that their should be more rewards for pking.

Example: Reaching a certain amount of PK's could warrant titles, shop sold items obtainable only by those with X+ amount of Pk's etc etc.

I believe there are three reasons why the game has fallen off.

A.) its way to liner (you aquire the drops you need then its just grinding on your own for hours on end for levels that you don't even need due to no reward outside of stamina and hp)
B.) 35+ leveling (as you can see when the new leveling system for 31-35 came in more players reached the 35 "cap". Trying to force tokens is up-surd, Tokens should be the "quick and easy way
but their should be an alternate system)
C.) Dieing to 1 pk can mean hours of grinding to make up. The grind is bad enough without having to worry about losing everything you've accomplished that day in 1 death.

Could take a page from the main book for xp loss. I believe it's 1% or 1.5m xp lost per death, whichever is lower.
