there is not, i suggest using a windows emulator, although there has been mixed success in one.
a windows emulator running microsoft virtual pc (a pc emulator), which can then run a windows 98 install should do it though

You might actually try using lindows which has a few bugs in it but is for those who game and dont like windows it basically fakes a windows program to games but is like 5000times better being that it is linux you may download it here http://linspire.com/ and try it out I havnt tried it yet and dont want to mess up my microsoft but if it works tell me so I can use it instead.

You dont need to install anything to try out linux with some distros there is things called live cds and all you do is download the iso image and burn it to cd put it in your cd drive and reboot and it runs the operating system from the cd instead of your harddrive.

Links to a couple :

Knoppix
Ubuntu - Make sure you download the live cd version.

*Nods in agreement with muse* I use the Ubuntu live alot and it will work with Nightmist but if I install it on my pc it wont let me access NM so if you want to actually have a full linux version downloaded try lindows at the link I put up and it may work with NM, it was made for gamers who didnt like windows.

I heard that Linspire sucks and linux sucks for games since you need to use emulators most of the time unless the game was made to work with linux.

That is true but linux is a much better operating system and you almost never get hit with bugs or viruses since they are almost always after microsoft or apple stuff.

i tried using Wine. It was suposed to be one of the better FREE windows "Emulators" but it sucked. Gotta try the otherones when I get my check so i can buy a new adaptor box for my tower. (My monitor died so Im now going to hook up to my 27" tv. w00t.) My tower has Redhat Fedora 2. Its one of the better versions. Haven't had a crash yet with it.

WINE is supposedly the best. Linux is a waste of time though, you might as well stick to windows.
If you build it, they will come.

Depends on if you value cost higher than quality. If so then go for Linux.

And I just know people are going to argue with my quality comment since it become "cool" to hate MS...

Oh and by the way. Wine Is Not an Emulator.

Aye wine is cool but I mostly use MS now I have one pc with linux and that is Ubuntu atm but I am going to change it to a more programming friendly linux and yeah it has become cool to hate MS I personally am writing my own operating system atm. Not linux based and if I ever get it all worked out it should work for NM (If I ever get around to asking JLH about the binarys and stuff) But anyways after all that rambling MS is the best thing to play NM on Period and if you want to play NM I implore you to continue using MS instead.

Edit: By the way am I missing something or is Sean pandilex???? wierd...

I think you might be missing something there. lol

Edit: But seriously. Try a few more emulators, not just WINE.

You might be able to get it to work on one.

I've seen the error of my ways?

It also means I've tried it, which means I know what I'm talking about. ;)

i just tried it under wine and the login screen pops up but when i try to login i get a runtime error.

so your only real option right now is vmware. There is now a free vmware player release if you can figure out how to make a disk image for it.

linux is better for everything i havent even bothered trying to get nm running on linux plenty of open source alternitives the thing with wine is it has alot of different ways of setting it up theres a setup script you can get from the wine site which pretty much sets everything up how it should be then its just a case of putting the program in the right directory cedega may work better but ive not tried it

would love to see a version of nm written in java or c++ when u cut of linux and mac users u kinda lose a good portion of users i know the reasons its written in vb are what the developers know but java aint that different im learning it now after just finishing a course in vb alot of things are the same and the networking stuff is easier 1 liners most of it

only when made by incompetent coders and using slow libraries i would much prefer nm was made in c++ but jlh has already said no to me once about that c++ would be the fastest and use the least resources

There's a lot more to programming than just picking the fastest language. Nightmist doesn't NEED to run faster (so to speak) because it runs fine as it is.

The benefits of visual basic over C++ are numerous for nightmist. C++ is annoyingly difficult, time consuming, and a pain in the behind!
If you build it, they will come.

VB when beeing used to full extent and will fully stable code by all logic should work in wine or atleast cedega but i couldn't get this to work in eather and i've been using linux for quite a wile now over 4 years but only in the last year i've fully left windows becasue for the most part if the program doesn't work native you can find a port of it and people complain about linux but alot of the most used linux programs have been ported to windows
also the gui that windows uses these days is lookin a hell of a alot like kde or gnome
but this isn't a rand thread so

i tried in wine and it wouldn't get past the installer it
tried in the timedemo of cedega(i've been running it for about 3 months lol) and it installs fine but when i goto run it it doesn't pop up and i look in the console and it says something along the lines of
DLL: c:\program cannot be found meaning that that line atleast wasn't coded properly because if it was it would properly point there even if the dll wouldn't load

BTW nice to see your still around pan i coulda swon you got canned shortly before i left

Nightmist does not refer to c:\program anywhere in the code.

c:\program looks like an incorrect splitting of "c:\program files" by some kind of string tokenizer

Hey does anyone if there is a client that works to play nm on Linux?

um i'm running F8 with wine from testing and it works fine aside from a few little bugs

first the skin downloader doesn't seem to display any
second occasionally enter does nothing so i have to set things to macros
and if i do an action then move a lot my stamina bar gets stuck at 0/1
