Silverwizard looks at Bremen, "You see the world is not as easy a simple magic, the demon that I think lives within Elwin III can simply dismiss your power after he feels it, we need to make a true strike, and there is only one person who can acctually stop him," as he says this he looks Steven straight in the eye. "To this one, you found the weapon, prophecy says only you may destroy it, that is why Sh'Hodmet is here, also I need to transform, I agree, it is a little ugly." After stating this he conjours an illusion of Elwin's palace, he begins to list the weak areas to the group, also showing Bremen some of the powers they should expect to face, the ability to feed off a dying foe, dismissal of our magic, turning to stone, and more.

(I apologize to both Bean and Bract here for taking minor control of your characters, but I felt it was necessary to progress our story. The happenings in this instance are now the fruits of a few days travel, our protagonists have stopped in a small town while Ulantees tends to what he simply states as business.)

A trio of travellers stand amidst the millings of a small town, a society half forgotten by even it's own empire, a stern man of clear combat inclination sits abreast his horse swatting irritably at the mass of flies drawn by the soil and refuse poured from the windows of nearby dwellings. The second man, his face mysteriously hidden from the penetrating rays of the burning sun throws a glance to the third standing in the shade of a small falcon aviary. Ulantees turns from the man he handed a small leather pouch to just moments before, jingling in the obvious nature of it's contents, "I will be but only a few moments longer friends." Turning back to the store owner he dictates but two words to the clerk, who scribbles them down quickly in a sharp neat script, a few mutterings later, the clerk looks to Ulantees with a horrified expression, and after further talk, Ulantees hands over another two pouches to him. With great reluctance the small man walks to the very back of the aviary, and brings forth a massive brilliant falcon, it's perfectly sculptured beak shining like mithril, calm eyes that saw all and missed nothing, and vicious looking talons, it casually begins to preen the feathers of its gigantic right wing. The clerk, sweating and white faced straps a paper he had been writing on to the falcons leg, and then strangely, removes the identification tag from the other. He strokes the falcon a few times, and with visible sadness throws the beast into the air, calling after it, "To Karfendale, post haste, and never return, for fear of bringing destruction to us all". With a shriek the falcon is off into the clear blue sky, broken only by the occasional soft white splashing of cloud.

Clearly heart broken and shaken at the previous transpirings, the somber man begins to close us shop for the day, and nodding to the man, Ulantees spins on his heel and walks to his companions.
"I apologize for the delays. That, my friends, was a message for the Kingdom of Elwin, to the castle of Karfendale." Ulantees pauses a moment, to observe the reactions of his companions, "Our feathered friend takes a message to Elwin, and at a heavy price. The message is simple," Ulantees clears his throat and pauses to emphasise the air of suspense, "Revenge comes ~ The Retributer Ulantees."

With a vindictive grin that could that could easily be confused with a snarl, Ulantees looks in the direction of their destination with a look of untempered hate...

King Elwin sat in grim silence as he pondered the decision that Galeb was about to make. He knew that he would lead his forces to whatever town he believed sheltered the rebel movement.

He also knew that Galeb would have no qualms destroying anyone who tried to stand in his way
<That is, after all, why I like him> he thought to himself <At least he, unlike these other fools, is good to his intent>

"I am loathe to make martyrs Galeb" he whispered under his breath "If by destroying these rebels... you create yet more... your job shall never be done. Your place in my service... shall be an eternal one until you fix whatever mess you create"

He stood and his lavish robes cascaded about his person, rich material shimmering as he moved and stepped down from his throne and walked past them all. Past the 'fools' in his service, nearly all of whom turned away from him. Disgust tainted his features at the spinelessness of those who served him and the room visibly seemed to darken as his eyes gleamed ferally

<Some day...> he thought grimly as he locked eyes with each, but he never finished the thought. Didn't want to finish the thought... nearly all had gone deathly pale. A snarl of annoyance escaped his throat as he lost his patience, as the frozen aide's failed their duty, did not move out of his way... did not bow and open the massive doors for him to pass through at his leisure

Mood darkening at each slight, he continued past them all, into the rich and lavish rooms which littered each side of the corridoor. Gold shone and glimmered as he passed his hand across the treasure he had aqquired... treasure that made him the envy of so many.

Calmer now, with a contented smile he swept aside a massive tapestry which allowed the shortcut to his inner courtyard. The treasures here... were of an entirely different quality

Horriffic statuetes stood amongst the bright flowers... warriors who had lost arms, still clasping their swords with whatever remained, men and women who had once worn robes very similar to his, faces frozen in expressions of inexplicable pain. Twisted features carved into dark granite
"I wonder" he murmered, stroking the statuete nearest to him "If any of you shall soon gain some... company" Without warning he unleashed the built up rage, sweeping the dagger around, hearing a hollow clang as it connected with the solid rock.
The dagger remained unscathed as he sheathed it once again, then suddenly the statue began to crumble away, piece by piece. Elwin turned his back on it, his eyes faintly glowing the same red as the blood oozing from the crumbling rock. A faint scream tainted the wind, a hollow cry of anguish which seemed to make the dagger glow in Elwin's grasp. Elwin closed his eyes and the wind whipped around him. He breathed deeply, inhaling the scent of the blood without even realising it... his long blue hair flew wildly about him as he could feel the power rising within-

Shrieeeek

A loud shriek cut through the air shattering his focus. The King lost track of the voices and his head snapped up in momentary alarm. Even from here he could see that arrows were firing from the spiralling turrets of his abode
<An attack?> he thought briefly before he scoffed the thought. No fool would even think of attacking him here in his sanctuary... surely not?

With uncanny speed he dashed back through the castle, never tripping once on the now utterly impractical cloak. He stormed out onto the turrets where the shrieking was continuing loudly.

"WHAT IS GOING ON HERE?" Elwin roared as the arrows continued to fly out into the sky... <Into the sky?>

His gaze turned upwards in time to see the flash wings as talon's raked flesh and he let out a yell. Shocked he raised a hand to his face as tainted blood trailed from the gashes staring at the blood with increasing fury

"I ASKED WHAT WAS GOING ON" he roared

"The... the bird" one of the archers stammered "It began sweeping down at the castle"

"And you waste arrows provoking a creature with your poor aim? The bird attacks because you antagonise it" Elwin hissed threateningly. He raised his eyes to the sky and seized the man's bow from him, aiming steadily and without hesitation.

The bolt streaked through the sky, clipping the edge of the magnificent creatures wings as it spiralled out of balance. He fired again, seemingly missing the magnificent falcon entirely, but then the archers notice a small parchment fluttering to the ground where their King stands. King Elwin had his message. He considered stopping there... considered it.

A single arrow more shoots the falcon clean through its wing and with its magnificent wingspan, the change in the birds flight is far more than noticable. Still shrieking it tried to regain its grandeur, but only succeeded in awkwardly crashing to the ground alongside the parchment. Finally the King returns the bow to the startled archer and moved towards the writhing bird

"Magnificent" he murmers appreciatively as he looked the creature over from a slight distance. "No identification... but at least we have a messanger with some style. Likely this falcon succeeded where it's master would have failed.. in drawing my blood" he smirked coldly
The falcon wasmagnificent... gleaming beak and fatal talons. Massive feathers and the glory of the skies. Wounded... but not dead. Elwin reached towards the falcon to retrive the message, slightly surprised when the bird didn't react. The bird seemed almost... proud that the message had been delivered

"Call the falconer" he murmered calmly "Such a magnificent creature does not deserve to be slaughtered by the likes of you... have him retrieve it and heal its wing. This creature is now masterless. When its wing recovers it is mine"

He was calm even as he unrolled the parchment, calm until his eyes fell upon it... calm perhaps even as he read the words... "Ulantees... "rage flushed his face and he dropped the message, spinning about on the turret, searching for direction in which the rubble that had once been Gromberg lay

"Ulantees" For once moment, the expression that passed across his face, a flicker of... fear? in his eyes. One might even say... that he appeared shaken

Yet again he clutched the fatal artifact close. That treasure alone had allowed him to quiet the Elven Lords, destroy his rival king. And now he he was afraid of some fool? Some survivor who failed to see he was about to waste whatever luck had fallen upon him the day the Eagle and Lion had razed that city to the ground

"Come then retributioner" he sneered to the ruins "Bring your revenge"

"Then you can die like the rest of your people"

After the battle was finally over between the two, shinton went on with his journey, after traveling long days, and hours, trying to find someone to follow so that he would no longer get lost. Also that he might be able to ask help them on there journey.

Shinton finally finds someone that he thinks is Charon but he can not tell, he yells "Charon! Is that you?" shinton gets no answer yet. He walks forward slowly while he is waiting to see if the figure he sees is Charon.

With a sudden spur of movement, Bract and Dusk burst into the road; they stop and look back at the Aladar & Ulantees.

“I have some business to attend to; it won’t take long, we’ll catch up to you on the road to Karfendale." With an undertone of agitation he adds, "If we can avoid any more pointless delays, we’ll make it to there by the end of the day.” He says, then turns and bolts down the road, disappearing into a side-street.

(Proceeds to the local leatherworker to purchase armor, then the supply shop.)

Mantis has been leaning on the door frame of Steven's room, listening to the conversation. He is now wearing a dark black cloak that he did not have before. "From what I have heard, this dagger is what needs to be taken care of," mantis turns to Steven "and, it would seem, you are the one who must destroy it. We should all get some rest, it has been a long day and there may be some retribution for our day's activities in the morning."

Katianna walks briskly through the city streets, traversing the path, again, from the Drunken Maid to the Dancing Wolf. As she moves the, now familiar, path her mind reviews...
  • Two agents are looking for Galeb, to track his activities.
  • Agents are in place as to provide a signal relay to notify her if trouble approaches the Dancing Wolf.
  • A room off the sewers, just beneath the Dancing Wolf, has been prepared for a hide-out if necessary.
  • An antidote for the poison on the needle used by Galeb is being sought, and, with some luck, should be delivered soon.
But, there is still much that needs done, and time is quickly running out...

She arrives at the doors to the Dancing Wolf, before entering she glances up to the roof of the building across the street, wondering if the post is there yet. She’ll just have to trust that if he’s not there, he will be soon...

Entering the Inn, she scans the main room for Steven, or his companions; they aren’t there, but she receives a signal from a man standing at the base of the stairs indicating they are upstairs.

She approaches Alex;

“Good evening, Love” she says with a friendly smile. “In which room will I be finding Mr. Avelin?”
Without actually waiting for a reply, she heads to the stairs – not actually caring if Alex answers. As she passes by, she looks back through the doorway into the kitchen and adds;
“There’s a door out to the ally this way - correct?” She pauses for a moment at the base of the stairs, casting a smug grin at Alex.

Silverwizard looks at Bremen, "You want to do something else with this dagger, then you are a fool and more dangerous to this party then Elwin himself, if you wish to use it, then it may well be you who are the one to destroy this world, if you wish that, speak now and I shall slay you to save me the trouble later, if not, then you will concede that this dagger must be destroyed." Silverwizard's fingers begin to crackle with lightning mostly in between his fingers. "Hmm, I sense there is something else we must do, there are more to come," he says after a little, almost ot himself.

((OOC: I think the parties may meet any time, especially if you are in town, you may go to the Dancing Wolf or something to set up a base of operations, or we may meet you.))

Opie turns to face the inn keeper and smiles. "Yes, i think we will take a room, and i appologize for bringing the weapons in here. we ar so used to being on the road where your weapon is your only friend that we totally forgot how to function in civilization. My name is Opie, and this fine specimen of dwarven pride is Blaster. We will put our weapons away, but would you mind if i kept my sword on me? its hidden beneath my cloak, and you have my deepest oath as a paladin that i will keep it that way." ("I like the pike for travelling, it doubles as a staff, but when it comes down to it, i am a pally, and we are the best with blades.")

Blaster, with a slightly less jolly smile adresses the man "I don't suppose you know where we could go to find a good fight?" after a nudge from Opie, Blaster adds "against evil, or maybe just.. mean?"

"You know Blaster, i think you may have something there, i get the fealing something big is going to happen. Could you point us in the direction of where this might be happening?" As he says this he peers over his shoulder and realises Mantis is gone." that slipery... why is he always doing that?"

Charon herself had found herself staring at Bremen as a result of his comment. As she looked at him... she couldn't see the sinister side she imagined would come of wanting this weapon. She could quite well understand Silver's arguement... but she did so dislike arguing

"Gentlemen... wizards... please" Charon protested weakly as she moved between Bremen and Silver, trying to break up the animosity "Noone is disputing your power" she said to Bremen "Either of your powers..."

"Why are the two of you..." she stalled as she looked at Silver "...however many of you... so intent on arguing with each other?"

She looked between them so helplessly "We had this conversation before... I thought we resolved it before. This is not the place for the two of you to challenge each other. This is not the place for hostilities... "

Charon moved towards Silverwizard, taking his hands in hers and closing his palms, flinching from the electricity that had been gathering there "The last thing we need it to be fighting ourselves on this. Not now. Surely both of you can see that"

She was silent for a few moments before she withdrew, standing back from one and all in the the room, the flickering candleight illuminating her face

"Besides... our actions, it seems, are already drawing a fair amount of attention" Charon murmers as she looked to the doorway where Mantis is standing "I do not believe a battle of elements between two with power... would be the most discrete was to hide from the forces that may well be pursuing us all. The fellow at the door is correct. We should rest..."

She turned to Silverwizard with an amused smile "And though your theif of an alternative self may believe these rooms are on the house, I paid good money for them" more hesitantly she glances to Mantis, uncertain as to whether he, also, was seeking a free room or if he had purchased one of his own "Alex seems a fair man... and he is placing himself at risk by sheltering us. May I suggest that you at least give him the payment he deserves for his troubles?"

She leant back against the wall. She didn't believe for a moment that she could try to exercise control over these people. Each of them... had reasons running as deep or far deeper than her own for hanging around.
Each of them... had their own slightly differing plan of action

"We need to work together" she mumbled to noone in particular

Silverwizard looks at Charon, "It may well not grant us the ability to hide if there is a fight, but if he is going to use this weapon, then it is better to destroy him before he has demonic aid, I have seen evidence that he has considerable power currently, and demonic aid would cause more problems. I have once seen Sh'Hodmet bring someone back from the brink of death, demonic aid is something a wizard does not need. If you wish me to pay for my room, well, as my foray as Trekkie I seem to have come across a few coins..."

Narin looks to Opie from where he has been sitting drinking light wines for most of this time then stands up and moves over to talk to him, "Your a paladin? Alex stammered a bit as he watched Katianna climb the stairs.

"...Y-Yeah...e-exit...that way..." he said as he began to walk out from behind the bar-counter. However, he stopped himself once he realized that was the woman talking to Steven earlier. Steven didn't seem to see her as a threat...why should he? He trusted Steven enough. His gut instinct was as good a guide as any.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Steven gritted his teeth as he heard Bremen's little comment. He began to rise to his feet to give him a small smidget of what he really felt...but stopped seeing that Silverwizard was going to steal his thunder.

Quietly, he sat, listening as words were exchanged. So often he had wanted to just butt in with his little comments...but he had eaten his share of humble pie. He knew when to listen and when to talk.

"...I-If any of you still don't have a room...you can use mine. I have no problem with sleeping on the floor...I-I heard somewhere that it's good for your back," he said, ending with a joking flair.

Aladar waited passively as Ulantees delivered the sinister note to the falconer to send to King Elwin. He didn’t particularly agree with the sentiments the note carried, but he didn’t totally disagree with them either.

"Since Bract has gone to deal with some business might I suggest we head along our way?" Aladar ventured as Ulantees came back to the road. The Feral look on Ulantees face seemed to make Aladar waver slightly. "He will be able to catch up anyhow, and I am sure he possesses some measure of tracking abilities"

Aladar did not wait for Ulantees' reply, He gathered his robes about him and proceeded down the road. A small metallic sound could be heard from within his robes as he gathered them, accompanied by another small glinting of metal.

"I hope you have a plan my friend, I have come to the decision that I will commit myself to any path you put forward for us. Don't act too brashly..." Aladar called over his shoulder in a reassuring way.

((I'll tell you now, fighting gets boring really fast...at least for me. I'll avoid fighting for a couple reasons. If you have more than 2 people fighting, you run the risk of "power-playing" where someone will post more than the others, giving him/her an advantage. Just by the way you're writing, I'll assume you know what God-Modding is so I won't cover that. Lastly...well...I don't think there is a lastly. Basically fighting should be in moderation. I just finished a fight scene in another RP and...*counts*... it took a good 2 pages of just two people posting. Even I got bored of it so I can only imagine how other people who weren't part of the fighting felt. Ugh, now I've gone and wrote all that. Thanks a lot, Bean. =P ))

Steven shook his head.
"...No, I-I don't have anything to add...W-We need to find this dagger...a-and then...w-we...should...umm... I-I don't know...

...I suppose we destroy it..." he said with a yawn. Slowly, Steven turned his head to watch the candle. It had already melted away almost a quarter of the wax, filling the room with the subtle scent of lavender. Steven just sighed and smiled slightly. Alex was pampering him way too much.

"A-Anyways...y-you should all try to get some sleep...w-we can talk more in the morning over breakfast...or something..."

I really am not keen on the idea of yet another encounter at Dancing Wolf, however, that's not to say that the two parties ever need to come to mutual sentiments. ))

Ulantees jogged a few paces after Aladar, then, as if hit by a brick stopped in his tracks, wide eyed and mouth agape. What did he plan to do when he reached Karfendale? He no longer had to advantage of an army for him to command, nor did he have any great knowledge of the fortress in Karfendale. Jogging to catch up, Ulantees falls in step with Aladar. How had he come to be the leader of this unusual trio, if what Aladar said was indeed true? Clearling his throat hesitantly he speaks to Aladar, "Ahm, about what you said... I think we might be in a problematic circumstance..." Ulantees clears his throat again, "but your a man of academic pursuits... right? You see, I hadn't really put much thought into... well I figured... maybe you should...", trailing off Ulantees furrows his brow and speaks sharply, "Damnit I haven't thought about it at all', Ulantees finishes angrily as he punches one hand the other, annoyed at his own lack of foresight. It was uncharacteristic of Ulantees to make such a massive oversight, and felt somewhat humiliated at, what would appear to be, his sudden inability to plan ahead. Clenching his fists he quickens his pace to walk a few paces ahead of Aladar, mumbling to himself, spitting the name, 'Elwin, this is all that fiends Elwins fault.'...

"You are correct," Bremen replied, looking amused. "I have no need for demonic aid. Nor any desire for it. Long ago, I developed a way to create a barrier between the lower planes and this world. Among other things it requires that powerful artifacts originating from the lower planes be placed in several places around the world. This town is one such spot. If you destroy this weapon, the demons may only send something more powerful. If you help me, then eventually...eventually the lower planes will no longer be a threat."

"You believe that there is no barriar already in place?" Silverwizard scoffs at Bremen, "This world would be swarming with demons, devils, and all manner of evil creatures if there were not, spells that can transport to this plane are well withn the hands of demons, the problem is we arrogant mortal spell casters trying to cause trouble. Spells cast from this plane break those barriers slightly, just enough to cause a demon to come through. If you think you can improve on the creator, do what I have done in other world, take his place." With that Silverwizard leaves the room, puts a pouch of 50 gold pieces on the counter for Alex and requests a room.

((How did Shinton get up here? o_o I mean...you just sort of...appeared. ^^;

Your last post was:

After the battle was finally over between the two, shinton went on with his journey, after traveling long days, and hours, trying to find someone to follow so that he would no longer get lost. Also that he might be able to ask help them on there journey.

Shinton finally finds someone that he thinks is Charon but he can not tell, he yells "Charon! Is that you?" shinton gets no answer yet. He walks forward slowly while he is waiting to see if the figure he sees is Charon.

...So I'm not entirely sure where you're coming from. ^^; ))

Alex gave Silverwizard a queer stare.
"...Do you have any clue what time it is?" he snapped as he wiped the sleep from his eyes.

"You would never be able to get a room at this time...especially for that much...but...

You are a friend of Steven...so...Hmm..." he said as he stroked his chin. Suddenly, his eyes lit up and he began to fish around his pocket. Several moments later, he pulled out a single, bronze skeleton key and threw it towards Silverwizard.

"It's my personal guest room. You can use that for the night...

Tomorrow, if you still need it, I'll be sure to keep a room open for you."

((I just noticed that the 2 party's time frames are a bit off. It looks like you Ulantees and company are strolling about at high-noon-ish. Here, at the Dancing Wolf, it seems to be...midnight or close to there. We need to sync these time frames eventually...but, as it stands, it's not entirely important since we're not actually interacting.))

As shinton looks around he starts to see visions of things, things that look like it has never happened before, atleast not yet. Shinton falls to the floor holding his chest, screaming in pain "AHHHHHHH!!" and it seems that no one can even hear or seem him, is any of this even happening to him, or is he just hallucinating he asks him self. The pain finally went away, and a worried look came over shintons face as he looks back at steven, awating his next move.

"Steven what should we do next?"
"Why are we juat standing here waisting time? When we could be out there doing people good."
