Just wondering if any of you other Nightmistians ever played or still play any of the old Sierra games like; Quest for Glory, King's Quest, Leisure Suit Larry, Police Quest, Space Quest and the like.

If so, what is your favourite series and game? And why? Any funny stories from playing?

My favourite is Quest for Glory II: Trial By Fire. Set in the arabic like city of Shapeir where you battle fire elementals and an evil sorceror and other such fun things.

My second would be the first one So You Want To Be A Hero? Where you can kill yourself by picking your nose with a lock pick if you don't have enough skill.

You delicately insert your lockpick into your nostril.

Unfortunately you push it in too far, causing yourself a cerebral hemorrhage. Guess you should have practiced some more on less difficult locks.

Ahhh, good times.

I learned about the birds and the bees from Leisure Suit Larry. Infact my whole life has been molested by that game. I have a fear of flushing the toilet incase the room fills with water and I drown.

Btw anyone got any good download links? Wouldn't mind having another shot at a few games.

They've got just about all of them. You'll need a DOS emulator to work it properly on a better computer. You can find that here.

Man Leisure Larry was a great game. I always enjoyed when you didn't pay for something at the convenience store and the clerk pulls out his shotgun and blows you away. Or if you stray too far off screen you get the crap beaten out of you by hoodlums in the alleyways.

Heh.

Blimey, this is a trip down memory lane. I used to play Leisure Suit Larry and Space Quest when I was a lot younger... that is, before my computer went bust (it had about a 10 MB hard drive and DOS 3 or something).

I miss those days!

Yah, they're great. I remember my parents banned me from playing Leisure Suit Larry, (but I played it anway . . . ooh rebellious) but it was such a hilarious game, how could I not play it, it was right there.

Nothing better than a game where the aim is to get laid, heh.

I think my parents were glad that I never got that far through the game.

Sorry but I have to chime in here. Im usually a fan of your antics, I find them quite entertaining. But honestly Mr. Hardcore gamer ....games were invented for the purpose of fun. Just because you get your rocks off by owning people in "haro" which you swear takes skill, doesnt mean you have the right to make fun of people who play games just for sheer amusement. Go click more pictures and push more buttons, but you are no more skilled than someone who plays games for fun. You're just another person sitting behind a keyboard/game controller entertaining your mind. The REAL world is still spinning around you and everyone else, and you are no better than anyone as soon as you hit the power button on whatever machine it is that you are playing on.

And then Atari drove the market into the ground.

Warning, opinion ahead. No one is forcing you to read it. :(

Why isn't there an appreciation thread for companies who actually make decent games? Sierra are better off as a publisher of good games, rather than developing.

but you are no more skilled than someone who plays games for fun.

sorry but incorrect

skill is what seperates the pros of each game from the people who get home from work or school and play for 30 minutes then get off skill takes awhile to build up and dedication if you play for "fun" your not going to make top 10 in any game

Yes, but if you play for fun, not 'dedication' you have a life. It's a game for nutss sake, who cares if you make top 10. Does that make you a better person? no. Does that teach you any valuable life lessons? no. I play games for fun, that's it, I don't care about being the best, I just want to enjoy myself.

Oh yeah, pixelated sex, that's what really gets me off, big time. I haven't played that game for years, I'm talking about the other above mentioned ones. But if you want to keep on pulling out crap insults to make yourself look tough then go right ahead, in the end you're the one everyone is laughing at going what a tool.

Ok so by my understanding Rappy_Ninja dsoesnt like sierra games. Now reading that it is called "Sierra Appreciation Thread" i guess its for people that APPRECIATE sierra games.

I havent played Quest For Glory in years. That was a good series of games. I always liked the way the Paladin was a special class you had to aim towards achieving. My all time favourite though is Quest For Glory IV. John Rhys-Davies as narrator and the Chthulhu inspired story is just brilliant.

Yeah, because is everyone is laughing at David Beckham while supporting the guy around the street who plays football with his mates on saturday night.

From my point of view, when you finish a game, defeat a new boss, get a new high score, win an online game, etc etc etc is accomplishing something. "playing for fun" might be fun in your opinion, but you don't really do anything. Competition is what makes games good, you try to win, not "Have fun for an hour".

I haven't even mentioned that the game has to be good.

Playing without working towards a specific goal is "casual gaming".

You play to be the best, single or multiplayer, and that's the way it should be. All other games are pointless. :(

There is still a goal in all those games that you have to get to. There is even a point system as well that you strive to get full points on.
